Georgian MRLS: Yugoslavia built few of M-87 "orkan" MLRS systems in late '80s but the project was scraped in '90s during the wars in these regions. However Yugoslavia sold some of the modified Orkans to Georgia. Check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M87_LRSV2 points

I learned today that Dieter Hofmann, deveploper and manufacturer of the well known Simped hardware rudder pedals died on May 11th at the age of 61 after a long and cruel suffering from cancer. Amongst other USB pedals in his product range, Dieter earned worldwide reputation at Frugal´s and many other TM HOTAS Cougar owners for his fine F-16/C pedals that plug directly into the stick and are fully Foxy-programmable. His family announced that most orders were being shipped and pedals are currently out of stock, the company´s future unshure but undecided. http://www.dhs-electronic.de/home.htm The flightsim community has lost one of its very few dedicated hardware contributors of worldwide appreciation, good quality and great value-for-money. Sitting down at my desk setup felt different today, with a feeling of gratitude and pity for Dieter, because noone, especially not him, deserves to suffer. And a sad feeling that the piece under my feet has become until further irreplaceable. Thank you, Dieter, rest in peace!1 point

. Hyperlobby Server with 80s weapons only . I'm writing this to see how much interest there is in playing on a "80s style" lockon server with strict weapon rules. I'm also interested in knowledge of what weapons would need to be cut! Missions will be rotated based on the outcome of previous ones (semi-dynamic linear two way campaign) Essentially what this means is that you are only allowed to use predefined loadouts of weapons that match air combat before active missiles. For me it feels like the semi-active missiles and heatseekers in lockon are modelled in such a way that creates a more consistent type of combat. Statistically this should also reduce the number of exploits used. What kind of experience might this give for a2a combat online? Naturally no Amraam or Adder. Whether other weapons should be cut we will have to see. There would be a lot more close combat and ... generally more dogfighting :). Team tactics would also become more important since engaging multiple targets at one would be more difficult What I'm thinking is the following : Mig-29A : All standard lockon weapons allowed Su-27 : R-73, R-27T(does this fit on su27?), R-27R (No R-27E..) F-15 : Aim-7 and Aim-9 Mig-29S : Don't include this plane archers are going to kick *ss.... 1. What weapons should be cut? 1. What ground units should be cut? .1 point

@Mnemonic I can't believe I missed this! I forgot I asked you to translate for us. You aren't joking are you? Thats really what those labels say!? Wow. Thats all I'll say, I don't want to show too much disrespect here. I'd just expect some "creative" Cyrillic from something else, but not a sim.1 point

Beta testing is a funny thing and something that I will never volunteer to do ever again. I would have to be paid and paid in the equivalent of a very nice part-time job to ever do it again. Yes, you get to play before others do but this can be a bad thing. How would you like to beta test a roleplaying game, playing the thing "for real" for months only to have all your accomplishments wiped out when the final product is released? Would you feel like buying it and doing that all over again? I can imagine beta testing the Ka-50 for years and then getting the retail product. "Oh goody...I get to fly the the Ka-50. How new and exciting." :D EDIT: maybe you get another type of enjoyment, one of seeing people's reactions to the finished product you helped become a reality. Like an actor in a movie, you already know how it ends but you get to watch other people's suspense. :)1 point

Hey, you're preaching to the choir on the need for know-how and know-what! I was going to edit my post to "because I think the term is misleading to new people on these forums" to clarify what I meant. I got sidetracked before I could. Prepare yourself for a generalization! Most people who want to beta test want to do so because they just want to play the game early. I have nothing to back that up, but thats what I really think. People want to beta test because to them, playing a game earlier than others get to is a perk. Most are not prepared to actually do any "testing". For your average FPS, RTS, or RPG this is probably ok because just playing it is probably all you have to do. I agree that flight sims are more complex and need more than just playing. I'm probably wrong. Even if the title was changed to "ED Technical Expert" you'd probably still have people asking how they can beta test (see previous paragraph!). :)1 point

Good luck mate, been trying to beta test games for years. The only ones i've done is World in Conflict closed beata and front lines and thats by pure chance. But RTS games arn't my scene nor are BF clones. If you have experiance in the fields that would help with the game then you have a good chance of getting in the party. Am I ? I'm aware that either type can electronicallly scan - that's why the last 3 letters of each acronym are the same :-) What I said was, that if beam splitting is used by an ASEA radar, detection range for each beam goes down, limiting the usefulness of this ability. In an AESA array there are a fixed number of elements, each with a finite power output. Broadly speaking total available output from the array = number of elements x power from each element. If half the elements are used to form a beam directed in a direction different to that of the rest of the array's beam direction, the energy available to that beam is half that of that available to a single beam - as the first element in the total available power equation has been halved. Lower beam energy means lower return signal strength, means shorter detection range... I don't think I suggested either type suffers from this problem if they "simply" use their extremely high speed "*ESA" capabilities. True - if both have the same power output - and the EASA uses a unified beam. Not true if the PESA has a higher power output, and because one of the , current PESA radars have higher output power when compared to AESA radar - & all other things being equal, power = range.1 point

Throttle from X-52, MSFFB stick (+ pedals if spare cash about). FFB works very nicely in DCS.BS - apparently very much as for RL1 point

It was only about two weeks ago since we released the last note and another note the week before that. The next note will be out in about two weeks. While we provide A LOT of product information to the community we also have to balance that with the time we need to finish the project. Please have patience.1 point

While I agree that the F-15 should be without doubt the best straight-up BVR fighter, having it this way in Lock On doesn't necessarily mean that everything else just "dies." If anything, it would encourage pilots of other fighters to use team-tactics, and place more emphasis on strategies/methods intended to lure the Eagle pilots into a WVR fight. And in the end, that is not only more realistic, but more fun. There are plenty of other games you can play where you can hop into a jet and mindlessly blow things up - on the other hand, in a simulation, the fact that you can (and often need to) execute realistic tactics and strategies to overcome your enemies should be where the fun is at. Having climbed higher and flying faster to get that first look, first shot, only to see your radar missiles run out of juice 6 miles before the target while you get swatted by an R-27ET fired by a guy who's executing NO tactics at all is a pretty big buzz kill I'd imagine.1 point
