Comrades around the world! The 51st PVO Regiment is proud to announce the first "birthday" of our dedicated server! In light of this, we have made quite a few changes to make the server better and more fun! For starters, we have three fresh new missions running on 5 hour per mission rotation. Each of the missions are playing out over different parts of the Lockon map. Seasons and weather will also change randomly. As always, the missions are focused on both A2A and A2G. ======================================================== Secondly, we have a new, powerful stats engine (courtesy of <51>Case) accompanied with a new stats page. The new stats will log each pilot's flight actions and flightimes so anyone can keep track of what has happened in more detail! The stats also source data from the MP log, and are not LUA based, which gives us more options for further features and are also much more CPU friendly! During a flight, a pilot can score points from air-to-air and air-to-ground sorties and double these points by safely returning to a friendly airbase. Please be sure to check out the many neat features included in the new stats, which are explained here The stats pages are separated in an air-to-air page, an air-to-ground page, a page showing the overall pilot statistics that are designed to give both fighters and bombers a fair assessment against each other, and our favorite, a page grouping stats for squads! To give everyone a fair starting point, the new stats will be officially reset fresh on coming Friday! *From there on, each new reset will be done on quarterly basis or every 3 months, with current quarter being shorter as it is already February. We feel this will give more time for stats accumulation and better assessment of performance. ======================================================== We have also optimized the server in many ways to make it run smoother. All these changes will increase the server's fun-factor and still keep a sense of realism. i just was reading up on xp and its issue with multicore cpu power management, and disabled my speedstep and c1 halt state management options in the bios and i am now getting an performance increase in parallel with the vista set affinity trick! at least it is now much smoother and doesnt drop as many frames. try it and get back to me. Old early 80's film depicting what may of happened if WW3 started, and how the UK would have been affected if hit by a nuclear exchange (it's a long film, and even for it's age it's quite unnerving) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2023790698427111488&ei=6lWPSZrjOab8iAKQ-qC8Cw&q=threadws1 point

Catalyst 9.1 drivers were aimed at fixing a few media related bugs, not really doing anything in games. I'm pretty sure in 9.2 / 9.3 we will see an updated Avivo and some nice performance improvements.1 point

Flown the first mission - nice! I was able to deal with the 3 bridges on my own without using the wingman as I had enough weapons to do it. You got the AI to drop candle bombs in the right places, never an easy task in my experience. I must have just been lucky with the timing of my return to land. As I taxied off the runway, a couple of other Su-25's went past me on the taxiway. As I followed them to park, I saw several more Su-25's land. Looked real nice. Good that you did a night mission, too many folks never touch the time of day or weather so many missions are at noon with perfect weather. Lockon offers so much more than that if you take the time to experiment a little. Had a brief look at the other missions in the Mission Editor and they look interesting too. If I might throw in a few suggestions for any future campaigns you make. Change aircraft numbers so they arent all 01, 02,03 etc. If every aircraft has a different number, it is much quicker and easier to tell who did what on the debrief screen. Nice that you named the units instead of leaving the default AirGroupRUS01 and VehiclegroupGRG01, although you seemed to quit doing that for the 2nd half of the campaign. Limit the number of units not involved, eg in the first Mission, the T-80's and Ka-50's around Sochi don't contribute much to the mission other than eating up FPS for folks with average spec PC's like me. You might have limited the number of buildings that get attacked and end up on fire (even though it looked realistic) for the same FPS reason. You clearly put some thought into this campaign and I look forward to flying the other missions over the next few weeks if I can find the time.1 point

OK I finally got time to add a second vehicle of the same kind for each mission so you can look at one view from the side and one view from the front. There are 30 missions total to ID and Shoot or don't shoot depending on ID. I suggest you make a new pilot in your logbook to do this in case you accidently shoot a friendly. By using these missions I hope to help people wean themselves off of labels by having good vehicle ID skills. There are only 30 vehicle represented but my intent was to represent the most common ones you will see in missions and campaigns. If you need another one, just let me know and I can whip up the mission for it in no time. I hope this helps people and thank you for the suggestion to do 2 views, side by side. Vehicle ID.zip1 point

BTW, for a nice look into your computer components, check out this application: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php It will help with lots of things, such as observing occurances where a component that should run at speed X instead is running at speed Z, which might indicate that some BIOS tweaking or driver updates (or downgrades) might be in order.1 point

Especially for the hard core lone wolf pilots we've made a special page for them: Lone Wolf Stats These last couple of evenings have seen incredible teamwork from squadrons like =SE=, =2IAE= and =4c= and hence the regular air-to-air stats board is dominated by pilots from these squadrons. On the Lone Wolf Stats you can compare your skill with that of other lone wolves.1 point

Wohooo! Like X-Man said, big big Kudos to Case for making it happen! Guys, be sure to visit our forums if u have any questions or suggestions you might think would compliment the stats system. See you in the skies come friday! :joystick:1 point

Q: This chopper is insane! It turns every which way except my way! A: The chopper is not insane. You are probably fighting with the flight control system instead of allowing it to help you fly the helicopter. Here are a few suggestions: 1) Remember that helicopters are inherently unstable and generally require continuous and smooth control input from the pilot. The Ka-50 is not an exception, although the coaxial design does provide increased general stability. More importantly, the Ka-50 is equipped with an advanced flight control system to help the pilot control the machine. When used properly, the FCS is capable of nearly flying the helicopter on its own, from a rock-steady hover to automatically flying the route and returning to base. Be prepared to spend some time learning how to fly the helicopter and how to best use the flight control system as intended. 2) To be procedurally accurate and fly realistically, always keep the autopilot channels on (blue buttons for Pitch, Bank, Heading). Some people find that turning the Heading channel off provides better yaw response and seems more natural, but this will likely build bad habits and disrupt the proper learning process. In real life, turning off the autopilot channels is not permitted under normal circumstances. 3) To get a better understanding of how the flight control system functions, try flying the helicopter on keyboard only. This will minimize your own input and "purify" your observations. Make sure you activate the controls display (RCTRL + ENTER). You should find that once you push the cyclic forward and add enough collective for take-off, the helicopter will stabilize and keep itself steady and on course. Try making a few easy turns and watch the behavior. Try trimming. Hopefully, you will see that the FCS is really there to keep the helicopter where the pilot points it with his controls, but it sometimes takes a few moments to catch up with control input and stabilize. Learn to work with it, instead of against it. Also, remember that the FCS has only 20% authority. It cannot move the controls more than 20% of their full motion. 4) Use the trimmer - a lot. No, use it more than a lot. Ideally, trimming should be done in increments and every time the flight parameters change. However, trimming should also only be done when the helicopter controls and the helicopter itself are steady. In other words, maneuver by hand and once you've got it where you want it, trim. Make this a habit. For more details on the trimmer mechanism and how/when to use it, see the dedicated trimmer FAQ entry: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=572028&postcount=34 5) Once you feel comfortable, you can begin to experiment more. Try the Flight Director mode (single blue button to the right of the four channel buttons). The Pitch/Bank/Yaw channels should remain on. In Flight Director mode, the FCS will no longer stabilize the helicopter, but will still dampen the controls. To some, this may feel more natural, as the man-helicopter connection will be more direct without the FCS trying to do what it needs to stabilize the chopper. The helicopter will also be more responsive. This mode may be useful when active maneuvering is required, such as flying NOE, positioning for a cannon/rocket attack, evasive maneuvering or airshow performance. You will notice additional symbology on the HUD in this mode, which is designed to guide the pilot along the flight route, since the FCS will no longer follow it automatically. Note, the same FCS functionality can be temporarily engaged with the Emergency Autopilot Off button on the cyclic (LALT+A). Note the word, "emergency."1 point
