I made a cheat sheet for the A-10 HOTAS with all of the switch functions, and I figured I'd share it with you guys in case anyone is interested. It is sized to fit in the right flap of a Jeppesen kneeboard, but you can probably resize it as needed. You can download it from here.8 points

I thought I would release the beta version of my airfield diagrams for DCSW as the charts are at the point where I need to print a copy and then work my way through the airfields to get the rest of the detail right. The radio frequencies, elevations, directions and measurements should be accurate with the mission editor the F10 view and the A10C's internal MAGVAR. I'll do the release as a separate thread to the design discussion to avoid the release getting lost in that thread. I'm working through tower placement and taxiway labelling in addition to points of interest however a lot of the Russian airfields dont have the taxiways labelled which complicates the matter, I'm thinking it may be worth waiting until the DCS release prior to revisiting this. I've also added references to the ADF's from the BS manual and if the interest is there I will release a Russian air force version with Metric measurements once the maps are finished. If anyone picks a bug or has some reference notes for the airfields let me know. UPDATE: Updated airfield name plus some error corrections For those of you printing this, I recommend printing in color to A5 directly, as the map lines blend better in color then gray-scale, however you can print 2 per page on A4/letter Airfield Diagrams.pdf2 points

There is no DCS without a compatibility. As far as I know I always considered the DCS Idea like a base engine you can buy compatible modules that can interact in a online enviroment... if this concept goes into to the bin now the idea and DCS is dead and I can go back to ArmA II where they managed this but with a low and generic simulation level. No online compatibility - no DCS - no more need to buy it. And it wold be still a shame to leave the first two AFM aircraft in the series behind.2 points

What`s with the rep hunting lately? Guys let`s not push the other members to give us rep. You give rep when you want not when somebody tells you to. Oh and btw those "free rep day" threads , they make the whole rep system pretty pointless.2 points

UPDATED 03/15/2011 I thought it would be good to post here my approach to configure the X-52 in this sim since many people could be new to it and could use it as a starting point. Attached to this post are 2 files: the Saitek .pr0 profile and the DCS A-10C .lua profile. Also you can see in the pictures below the controls arrangement. Note that the italic commands are executed in conjunction with the pinky switch located in the base of the control stick. This profile is optimized for TrackIR users. You may want to replace some functions with the camera panning commands if you don't own one. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW CAREFULLY TO AVOID TROUBLE. All the steps are simple, you just have to pay attention to not screw anything up. INSTRUCTIONS 1) To load the .lua profile: Open up A-10C options screen, controls. Select any cell in the Saitek X-52 column. Click "Load Profile" on top and point to the .lua file. Beware that if you leave selected a cell from other controller (e.g. keyboard, mouse, etc) you will overwrite that controller definition with the .lua file, so double check before you confirm the changes. In any case, backup the Config/Input folder, in the case you need to revert the changes. 2) To load the .pr0 profile: Copy the .pr0 file to the Saitek profiles folder (in my case is C:\Users\Public\Documents\Saitek SD6 Profiles). The profile should appear in the right-click menu of the Saitek taskbar icon. Right click the Saitek taskbar icon and ensure the "SFJackBauer A-10C" item is clicked. 3) Configure the speed brake slider: Inside DCS A-10C, change the "HOTAS Speed brake switch forward" keyboard key to "N", and the "HOTAS Speed brake switch aft" keyboard key to "B". This enables the use of the slider as a speedbrake controller (check pic below). If you open up a chat textbox, and it is spammed with BBBBBBB or NNNNNNN keys, then remember to set back the slider to the center position :). Tips * Use the Cockpit illumination switch (T4) for dark ramp-starts. * The buttons in the throttle LCD alone give access to the radios. When used with the pinky, are useful to switch between the flight plan and markpoints. * Use T5 and T6 to light up your engines. * The mousewheel behind the throttle gives access to the NVG functions, when combined with the pinky. * You can use the "i" (clutch) button in the throttle to command your voice chat program as I do. To do that you need to disable the clutch functionality in the Control panel -> Joysticks, and assign a key to the clutch button inside the Saitek Profile Editor. Your feedback and testing is warmly welcomed! ENJOY!!!! :pilotfly: SFJackBauer A-10C X-52 Profile.zip1 point

Just thinking out loud. I've been fiddling around with the mission generator and it's great, it'll be a stellar feature (brilliant stuff Nikolay). One of the best things of it is that all the code, as far as I know, is coded in Lua. Therefore that code could be called externally and generate missions, in theory. The point is, that you could code a slick mission script that based on the success or failure of the current mission and the events of it, generates a new mission with the mission generator Lua code and load it. The process would involve toying with this function parameters in MissionEditor\modules\me_generator.lua It's not the Dynamic Campaign Valhalla, but it could be an interesting way of generate random missions, with some relation with the previous mission. Think about the possibilities of a multiplayer server generating dynamically linked missions. If somehow, a droll like me, can think about coding this, what can't be done by inside coders? DC?1 point

Hello everyone :), I had decided to sell like my seemingly one hundred and first born (that being my X-52 Hotas) a week ago to acquire myself the new Thrustmaster A-10 Warthog Hotas! This gave me a nice little 35 dollar discount. I also managed to find one on Ebay for $489 with free shipping :O Thus I have decided that I would share a quick review for those of you who are considering purchasing it. This is in hopes that I can provide all of you with a good sense of how great of a product this is. So hold on to your ejection seats as you may find yourself para-shooting away from your current shot full of holes Hotas in favor of the Thrustmaster Warthog! >:) Looks and Aesthetics: So, I received it today and I just unpacked it in what I would call an orgasmic like experience. Yes, this thing is absolutely more beautiful than the most beautiful woman on Earth! I literally Gawked at it for about 20 mins, to which of course is far more attention than I have given my girlfriend over the last 20 hours, or if not the last week! The look of the Hotas appears to be very authentic in accordance to the real thing. Hence, they weren't kidding that it's nearly an exact replica! If anyone here is considering purchasing this, you will not be disappointed! Build Quality and Feel: Now I figured this part would be very important to those who might like to know how well the Thrustmaster Warthog is built, and how it feels. The first thing I noticed when I pulled each part from their Styrofoam casings was how heavy they are, and they are indeed very heavy! The Hotas is built like a tank, and feels very solid to the point where it is no question in whether or not it was built to last. The craftsmanship that went into constructing the Hotas is second to none, and I say this in the most literal and broadest sense possible when it comes to game controllers. The Hotas also feels very natural and comfortable in your hands. The stick itself is incredibly comfortable, solid, with easy to reach buttons and hat switches. All the buttons have good tension, as well as a solid feel to them even though some of them are made of plastic. This is also by farthest the smoothest and accurate flight stick that I have ever experienced! But let's just say that I now know what it is like to hold and pull the stick and trigger of a real A-10 warthog! ;) The stick also has a large and solid base with rubber pads on the bottom, as well as screw holes in the four corners in case you want to bolt it down in your custom pit (should you have one, or plan to make one). The greatest thing about this is that this stick will not ever move around on you while you are in the heat of battle! :pilotfly: I could never say the same for my X-52, and that annoyed to piss out of me! The Throttle control is equally as amazing as the stick, as it too is solid and very comfortable. I also love the seperate throttles for each engine. These throttles have a very smooth and solid feel to them while having the option to increase and decrease the tension to suit your own preferences in order to get that perfect feel! I can't stress enough how great of a feature that is, and how it allowed me get more comfortable with it. Moving on, the switches, hats, and buttons are equally as satisfying with their solid clicks, tensions, and presses. In fact, the only gripe I have is that the flaps switch seems a little more loose than I had expected giving how the rest of all the other buttons and switches feel (this is a very minor thing, and a non-issue). The Throttle base is also very solid, and like the stick, it will not move around on you either. Accuracy: Here is another area I think everyone is wondering about when it comes to the new Hotas, and that is how accurate it is. Well after installing and calibrating the Warthog Hotas, I can say that it is extremely accurate! In fact, you don't even need to assign dead zones or worry about the stick having a slightly inaccurate center point. Now as far as fluidity in flight is concerned, all I can say is that it's extremely fluid and accurate! Getting the piper on target has never this easy! I would even say that this has made my gaming experience with the DCS series and Lockon 100 times better! No more over turning, pitching, yawing, or what have you! This includes under turning ect. The Thrustmaster Hotas stick is even great for racing games! Programming Software: I haven't gone in to deep here yet, but it seems pretty intuitive and easy to use. I will have to get back to you later on this as I spend the next few days fine tuning my button mapping to DCS A-10 :) Sorry, but I haven't had much time with it yet :( Though I may end up a single man if I'm not careful lol. Price: Expensive! However, it is more than worth the price! I would have paid $700 easy for this btw. However, keep an eye on Ebay or other places online for a good deal. Especially when considering shipping costs as some places will charge you a pretty penny to ship it to you giving how much this beast weighs. Conclusion: This is an AMAZING product! And so for the only Con I can think of is the price since many people might not be willing or able to toss out 500+ on a flight controller. This put me back quite a bit, so I surely felt the pinch here. I also don't normally jump the gun on new stuff while paying the premium price. This however was an exception that I feel was well worth it. :) So I hope all of you have enjoyed this quick review of the Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas  Cheers!.. PS, If there is anything you want to know about this Hotas, feel free to ask :)1 point

One thing to remember about SSD's: the smaller ones are often much slower than the big ones. This is because the most common solution for their design is to have a central controller with an amount of lanes to a bunch of flash chips - think of it like a RAID array. So say you have 16 flash chips of 12 gigs each for 192 GB total. Then you need a cheaper variant, so you remove 8 of the flash chips for a total of 96 GB. But since you removed chips instead of replacing them with smaller ones, the RAID spreads itself over less drives and sustained transfer rates suffer. (Seek-times and such would likely remain the same, though.) So when shopping for SSD's, whenever you go for two small you should look very closely at the architecture of it, since it might offer speed advantages to go for a single large.1 point

...yet neither Russia nor China sold technology to the NK regime, they had to kickstart their nuclear programme through buying from a gone-private Pakistani. (This has been documented, you know...) The United States takes first place by wide margin, then it's Russia, and the only known case of either selling nuclear stuff is the US selling some missiles for the british SSBN's. You make the mistake of assuming that Russian and Chinese generals are corrupt enough to hand out nuclear secrets - something that they'd be given the death penalty for. And besides, if they had bought nukes, how come their first test was a definite fizzle and the second so weak it was a possible fizzle? All evidence suggests that they aren't even quite at the level of the Manhattan Project around the Trinity test, while evidence for your conspiracy is absolutely zero with lots of points against it. Also, it should be noted that both China and Russia do have dependencies on trade with South Korea, simply because it is a very major player on several semiconductor markets - an area in which both said contries lag behind (though mainly because they never had a really major focus on it). Your whole argument assumes that either the countries themselves should be suicidal, or some suicidal general would somehow get access to nukes and be able to cart them off. Nukes are guarded a little more closely than some random officer driving in with a truck for some late-night shopping, you know. It's not your random box of AK-47 ammo or RPG-7 rounds collecting dust in a warehouse guarded by a sole bored conscript... ;)1 point

Ofcourse you can, why didnt you just look yourself in the options before asking? Go ingame, then Options - controls - axis commands - and then axis tune for hotas slew horizontal and vertical, I changed saturation Y from 15 to 30 in both horizontal and vertical. Try that, it should be much better :thumbup:1 point

Go under titles, find DCS: A-10C and change it's profile to the new one you wanted to use. Those curves should be changing if you change profiles. Here's what mine's setup as: If you're using Wags' setup make sure you're seeing curves like those and not flat lines, like the default.1 point

Ok, first off I'm working on video tutorials, so bare with me on a text/image tutorial. Here's the "big picture" for now: To get a JFAC/JTAC working during a mission you have to look at a few important things. Ultimately decide how the player learns of the JFAC and target locations. In the examples below, the players receives a message that informs him/her that enemy armor is approaching and that they are to proceed to UTM coordinates. In the below picture the message is triggered by a "trigger" at the pilots waypoint 2 - not visible. The message in the screen shot is in the message box on the right side of the SS. It gives the player UTM coordinates; you have to manually input coordinates in this manner. In my mission I have the JFAC "enabled" after the player reaches the the "trigger" labeled Activate Firefly. I don't want the player doing anything until directed to do so. In fact everything you see, is actually hidden from the player - initially. The trigger at Steerpoint 2(not visible) will also activate the attacking force. You can see by this trigger that I don't want ANYTHING in this area to operate before the right time. To get to the details about the JFAC: There are a couple of values that HAVE to be enabled for the JFAC to work, and they have to be done in the right order. First off, you need to assign it a "callsign" and a "frequency." If you click on the unit, in this case a Armored HMMVV, you will see an Advanced button on the bottom right of the page. Click ADD to get your options: The above images go over a couple of the options. You do not have to set your JFAC to immortal or invisible. I did in this mission because I want the JFAC to NOT be engaged/killed by the enemy and give directions to the player. Your frequency you can be set to any number, at least that I've found. It does have to be an FM frequency if you select FM or an AM frequency if you set it to AM. The callsign will be selected from a drop down menu; pick any one of the options. After you have setup the JFAC, it's time to tell it what target you want it to have the palyer engage. When you click "Perform Task" then select "JFAC - ATTACK GROUP." Upon doing so, you can click on the unit/group you want to tell the player to attack. At this time if you assign more than one target, which you can, for the JFAC to instruct the player to attack your game will crash. If you need to have more than one group attacked, then you set the first JFAC to deactivate once it's targets are destroyed by the player. You then have a new JFAC Activate once the group is dead and it can be assigned to direct the player to another set of targets. This is a small work around for the time being, I'm sure it will be fixed in the future. In the weapons drop down list, you can specify the type of weapon. You can specify simply guided or unguided. You can select GBU's Mavericks, etc... I leave it on auto so it's simply done and I don't have to worry about it, unless the mission calls for it. If the mission is at night, the JFAC will automatically activate it's laser designator. With triggers, you can have smoke appear at or near your target, to simulate the JFAC marking it. You can have this as a Radio Menu option - I'm still learning those. You can also have flares, explosions, etc... appear anywhere for your mission based on triggers/flags.1 point

I have no idea what the first post is about, but the "mod" on the youtube video is made by me. It is a little project I have been working on a bit for a while now (rendering a custom cockpit). Most of the actual hornet cockpit functionality is missing, wrong or incomplete including most of the mfd pages, almost all of the switches/knobs do nothing, radar, rwr, navigation etc. do not work and so on. The cockpit is rendered and handled using a D3D hook, basically the original cockpit is hidden and another model is drawn instead. All the switch actions and mfd/hud rendering is done in the lua exports script. It doesn't use anything from Black Shark so that is why the behaviour probably is a bit different in many places. The base cockpit model is made by another guy, it is intended for ArmA 2 which is why the detail level isn't on the typical flight sim level (also my renderer doesn't at least yet handle normal- or specular maps and the FC2 lighting is not very suitable for it), though I have added some more detail in the side panels and some other switches/buttons. I dont know if it ever will be in any kind of "complete" state, it depends on how much free time I have and how long I have interest to keep working on it. What is possible is also severely limited by what is offered by the exports interface so many systems are very difficult to get to function at all.1 point

For those who'd like to experiment: try changing to Then c11, c12 and c13 respectively. You'll get exact color coefficients to deal with. what it is: x component is red y - green z - blue So, if you want the sky color to have 50% less blue component (for example), add the following: before the line Not quite beautiful, but something to start with ;)1 point
