  1. An early Christmas present? Are you kidding me ? Dear ED members, please don't send us sth we have known for almost two months as a Christmas present , you didn't even bother to change a single word.

  2. Sorry but I don't want to read this entire thread. I just wanted to relay an experience I had today. Its been a struggle to go to the WH and BS Multiplayer browsers only to face the low population and the high numbers of locked servers. Today I bit the bullet and wiggled through all the Teamspeak hoops to get a password for the 74th. Well honestly "all the Teamspeak hoops" took a total of 30 seconds. But the result was one of the most enjoyable multiplayer experiences I've had since Flamming Cliffs. I flew no. 3 in a flight of 3 Ka50's. What a feaking blast. In the end we were defeated by 2 Mi28s but the experience was fantastic. The advantage DCS enjoys when compared to other MP flight sims like IL2 is that the population doesn't need to be high. The missions are Co-op, not H2H. Two professional players beats 20 jerkoffs any day of the week. Adding FC3 might well kill what I think is currently a very enjoyable high CAS/low-CAS dynamic. But right now I don't care about the meager online population. The people who do show up do so with a sense of mission. Kudos to the squads and mission designers who keep it fun and professional, whatever the population.

  4. Hi all, I would appreciate some advice regarding a stable position while doing the hover check. I find it pretty tough to keep the heli hovering in one position without engaging the hover hold mode. After a lot of practice I think I found a way to do hold it more or less stable just by pushing the cyclic gently in one direction or another BUT as soon as I trim the bird, I immediately lose the position because the nose will dive or rise. Now I'm asking myself: Can it be done to trim the heli in such a way that you can essentially release your hand from the cyclic while hovering 3 meters above the ground WITHOUT hover hold mode? Or can't this be done with a helicopter? I think I read somewhere that they are always unstable while hovering (though I've digested so much information the last three days that it gets hard to keep track now...). If this is possible I'd really appreciate a track showing this (preferably also showing the input window). :) Cheers P.S: I have AP engaged (Pitch, Bank & Heading)

  5. @jp20300 Not everyone who buys DCS is a forum junkie. The newsletter gets the info out to them.

  6. I think that ED better improve all of the Sim ordinance explosions before investing in some Hollywood exploding fuel tanks. Seriously, they look like graphics from the 90's IMHO.

  9. AI TASK (group name) - Hold; But you need to set a triggered action of "hold" in the group. When you set triggered action, you add the action (with its name if written) to the AI TASK list that you can use in the actions side of trigger. Es: holding "111" group ONCE -> (desired conditions) -> AI TASK 111 (in the list you will find "111 - Hold") Es. resuming "111" group ONCE -> (desired conditions) -> GROUP RESUME (111) Remember that you can also set the "hold" task in the advanced waypoints options, but you won't see it in the AI TASK this way and the action will be performed only when the group get to the waypoint. PS: I believe that this thread could be moved to mission editor subforum ;)

  12. The F/A-18C would be my all-time favorite US-jet (still doesn´t beat no 1 - the old MFG Tornados ;) ). Very small, but 2 engines, carrierl operations, multirole, sexy and a character. I don´t like these shiny glas pits of the latest designs - better stick to the 80`s. Considering that the F/A-18E would need a different 3D modell (simply scaling the size wouldn´t do it methinks) and a new cockpit model I do not think it is realistic to expect 2 planes in one go, if ED wants to keep its high standard. So would prefer the old "analog" and small sized F-18, but considering the DCS background is linked to real contracts, I would be surprised if its the old C version. Here is a nice and brief overview over the different types: From: http://www.fas.org/programs/ssp/man/uswpns/air/fighter/f18.html

  15. Processor is important as well, so just in case - which processor are you looking at? For graphics card, I'd say nVidia GTX560Ti or better. The Ti is what I use and it works perfectly for BS2 and A-10C with everything pretty much maxed and hacked high.lua for extra detail at long distances. If you want to have some extra margins, got either for a 2GB version of the 560Ti, or a 570. (Or even 580 if you have the money on hand.) There is no less than three main versions of the 560 - the 560 without the "Ti" is weaker and cheaper, but should also be quite acceptable. Personally I don't feel it's perfect value, but that is of course up to your own budget. The 560Ti is the "standard" for 560's, very good value. There is also a version called the "GTX 560Ti 448", which uses the same silicon as the 580, but with some parts of the silicon disable, and is the strongest of the 560's. For Radeons, I feel someone else might be better at offering advice, but in general something like a 6850 or better should do good.
