  2. The rungs of the ladder are apparently (just going from the posts here in general): DCS type ARMA type BF3 MW Quake etc The rules are that all players of the upper rungs must look down upon those in the rungs below them, and call them 'games' etc. Whether even one single aspect of those 'games' is actually useful or would be nice to have is irrelevant. :) Seriously though, any 'game' as they stand now will run into engine limitations once they step outside their chosen specialty. ARMA is taking flak here because modders always run into engine limitations, but the fact is that it was always an infantry centric game, and it actually does a decent job of creating a world that a person can walk around in (Day Z uses that world, without actually changing much at all when you think about it). For an infantry world, it's pretty big actually. So they've packed in a lot of vehicles as well - not switch flicking simulations, but ok if you watch them move about. If you want to see massive engine limitations, or just a generally crap world, try walking around in the DCS world as a soldier. Imagine having an infantry battle now - staring at each other across a flat, almost featureless polygon isn't my idea of cool. Tank vs infantry combat in Steel Beasts runs into the same problem - the crunchies get mown down since there is generally zero cover, unlike the real world, where even a 20cm depression can do wonders for a soldier, something that ARMA can do an OK (not always brilliant) job of. When Combined Arms comes out we'll be able to drive tanks - compare that to Steel Beasts and I'm sure you'll find that SB is much a much more realistic tank sim (including the 'switch flicking' part) since that was always it's primary focus, unlike DCS. So it's pointless knocking ARMA - that would be like ARMA players knocking DCS because 'it's terrible once you step out the cockpit and lay in the grass' (and it is - but that's not the point of it!) ARMA gets so many comparisons because that is the game that really opens your eyes to how close we can come to a first person simulator - one where you can move around as a human, not as a 'platform' (aircraft, tank, sub etc). Edit to add: Just to clarify, I was joking when I was describing the 'rungs' above - I play (or at least have tried to play) all of them actually, some more than others (clue - it must be more realistic) - it just seemed like some people get a bit snobbish when describing what they believe are 'lesser' games :)

  3. well, so far what we know for sure is that we´ll create a whole series of Harriers for DCS, release date to be announced, sure they will be for FSX/Prepar3D at first, but they´ll be the base for the DCS version. Av-8B Harrier II Plus and the GR7 and GR9 are among the chose ones Best regards Prowler

  4. Hello! Diddn't know where to post this "Solution" but I wanted people to see it, as I had been suffering forever with this problem, before I found a solution. I have been playing DCS for a long while, and menus seem really slow, and I finaly found the solution, and wanted to share with ya'll since I couldn't find this anyway on the forums For people using Kaspersky anti virus; Go into settings and make sure you add DCS as an exlusion. VIOLA Dcs menus will finaly load at a decent pace

  5. Hi Guys Just got home from an air-show and Boeing brought their f-18 sh demo sim. Got in line to try it, the kids behind me were going "are you in que" - "yes (so stop poking me you little...;)) Got about 5 minutes and then about 15 minutes with their software guy. The setup was a sit in cockpit and a curved screen, run on 3 projectors. The flight setup was airstart and 4 baddies inbound 20 miles. they were non aggressive and there was no crash model..just fly through scenery. With the instructors help i got one with a aim-9. turned to chase the second one and asking the guy for various controls ( the pit was dark, time was tight). Got a second baddie with the gun :). Controls were stiff as hell (joystick) Tried to do a break-turn and i had to work at getting the stick in the lap. Funny thing happened as I got in the seat, a official said " the next to try is the colonel's kid. So the colonel watched my short flight and after my gunkill, I did a victory roll to his amusement. I then did a fast low level (map was california coast). Trip ended and i got out, the colonel caught me while i was talking to thier software guy. "you tried this before"...- "yes allot of sim time" i said. " nice job" and then he moved on. As you can tell its very hard to put down all the impressions of 5 minutes down ;). While i was waiting to fly I thought " you must talk to the software guy on the laptop". I of course had one question....Who made this software. I was told that the sim i just tried was the actual f-18 SH sim software and that it was a inhouse Boeing project. Did say the word dcs and he said nope, all inhouse for what i just tried. The airshow was low cloud cover and most displays where just flyby's :(. Later i found the f-35 sim but that was closed to the public :( . Overall a good day none the less. :)

  6. Any manufacturer is going to have quality control issues, and those are the people you'll hear from most. CH has an absolutely UNTOUCHED reputation for a quality product, and they easily top the list for control integration. That said, I do wish they'd up the ante and reclaim the throne from Guillemot as THE folks to beat, because I think they could easily do it.

  7. There is: corrupt calibration? crazy joystick response? Use this tools Fix it: But it's only necessary if you really don't see them centred in the axis-options in-game of DCS.

  9. Do you want an F-16CJ or a Block 52 F-16? They are the same aircraft…and completely different. F-16CJs are Block 52 F-16s specifically equipped to serve as SEAD aircraft after the Air Force retired the F-4G Wild Weasels. They are equipped with the Harm Targeting System and capable of employing the AGM 88 HARM II Block 52 F-16’s are the Same >Airframe< but may or may not have the HTS. The F-16 is the Barbie Doll of fighters. Buyers accessorize them with the features they want or can afford and Lockheed Martin cranks them out. (http://www.f-16.net/f-16_versions_article9.html) I am inclined to believe since you mention an Afghanistan Campaign you are not looking for the “CJ” since there was little to no SAM threat in Afghanistan. (MANPADS yes… SAMs No) We listed them as F-16CGs when completing paperwork but Ill be dipped if I can find an Official refrence for that designation... A.A.M.V. An F-16CJ would be a welcome addition to the DCS stable considering the SAM threats present in most maps...Of course then I'd really have no time for things like a life... Gadgets

  10. This is a throw back but the F4U Corsair would be a great one to get. The only sim I have seen with this fantastic bird is the one Micorsoft did, it would be ok if they would go back and get it to work with TIR. I don't expect that to happen but the Corsair was just a great looking bird.

  11. I'm home now. 1st go to this folder in your install Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\Su-25T\Input\ <--- copy the File called su-25T. paste it onto your desktop or any handy file you have. It wont be staying here. Rename the File F-15e. Now put this file into C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input. Now go to C:\Users\Krazy\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\F-15e and open the LUA file NAME.LUA In this file its going to say return _('SU-25t') Replace it with return _('F-15e') Now you need to copy this whole input file again. C:\Users\Krazy\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\F-15e Paste it into --->>>Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Config\Input\Aircrafts Now when you open up DCS world. Go to your options. The F15e will appear. Insert your controls. ECT Now make a mission in the ME and set the F15 to client. You can fly all you want now. The sim also crashed on me when i pressed the 6,7 keys. This did not happen in 1.1.1.1. Just like in the A10c beta where the further along in beta the less other aircraft worked.

  13. the situation has that: Beczl and VEAO: Old FC Modders convert on 3rd Party, medium to high experience on DCS. Medium high to Hardcore final products IRIS and RAZBAM: FS makers enter on 3rd Party, nothing to very low experience. Fun to low-medium final products.... for now. Waiting for news and progress.
