1 month with SSD(Solid State Drive) - Great.
JEFX replied to 815TooCooL's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Pilotasso I think that I am following you (with difficulty, because I dont understand all what you are talking about...)... Can you explain, HOW do you do this (because usually Windows installs things where it wants...) thanks JEFX -
No problem asking CrazyOwl I wanted to limit to 3000$ (CAN) and I will be close to that plus a few taxes... The i950 makes my choices less pricy (compared to the 970 for example), the GTX 580 is pricy but I deem most necessary to the beauty of the experience (I play this at 3840x1024 on TripleHead 3 screens). The SSD is a bit pricy too, thats why I decided on a rather small one, but for the most important matters. The RAM is a rather normal one, therefore less expensive than the newer sexier ones, but I get a bigger number of it for less money. I agree that it is an expensive system, but I havent upgraded for a long while, my system now is a dualcore E6600... I think it was time for a move! cheers JEFX

Well, Well, friends It is nice to talk about it and read specs and forums but... I decided to take the plunge and ordered my custom system today : I will be getting the following (no turning back) and I believe that I will be able to survive the next couple of years with this (I seriously hope...) : Motherboard : ASUS Rampage III extreme X58 ROG (Socket 1366) CPU : i7 950 GPU : nVidia GTX 580 RAM : 12 Go Corsair 1600 Mhz DDR3 Drives : Kingston SSD V series 128 Go HDD 1 To 7200 RPM (Black) System : Win 7/64 pro (and plenty of room in the box for expansion, 2 DVDs, plenty of USB ports, etc...) I believe that the combination of the very good performance of the i7 950, coupled with the exceptional qualities of the GTX 580, plenty of RAM and the extra loading speed of a small Solid State Drive for the software and the system, will make this a fine computer (fingers crossed):music_whistling: I will report back on performance when I get familiar with it (I havent bought A-10C yet, I was waiting for the new machine, which I will get at the end of the week). cheers:thumbup: JEFX

Pilotasso, I am now bying a new system that (I think) will be fantastic for DCS A-10 (and upcoming few years) and I am getting a SSD along with a standard HDD. How do you set-up your files? You put the system (Windows 7/64) AND DCS Warthog executable on the SSD? other important things? thanks, I dont know really how to use it... JEFX -
For those of us who just like a flight simulator!
JEFX replied to Mizzy's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hey Mizzy, nice to see you here again! Despite the fact that I like the adrenaline of weaponry, my favorite moments in all sims (my list is almost like yours) were always athmospheric moments of flight, surprises, scenery,etc... FSX I didnt really like, but for great flying, I really recommend X-plane! Specially if you have a good Eyecandy set-up ( I am a strong advocate of Matrox TripleHead2Go) and with Tom Curtis Sceneries (Alaska, Rockies, etc), you get to fly a stupid simple Beaver in Northern Fjords of BC but it all looks SO realistic (and all the navigation aspects are real too!) Anyhow, thanks again for your mods, and I hope you will do more skins and stuff in the future, you are the best!:) Jean-Francois -
Thanks, but I havent gotten the Beta yet, just waiting to get a new up to date computer... Can you summerize what they say about this? I am very interested? thanks JEFX

Thanks Sarge Makes me feel a bit better... (I am waiting to get that new comp before I get the beta...)

PATCH BETA 3 : from the change log : ''* Dynamic weather generation is added'' What does that really mean? Can someone explain in more details what it is (am I dreaming here?:music_whistling:) thanks JEFX

Hey everyone! I am in the process of buying a new computer and I looked at the recommended system requirements as stated on the DCS site : Recommended system requirements: OS: Windows 7 64; CPU: Intel Core i7-970; RAM: 4+ GB; Graphics: 512+ MB ATI HD4850+ or nVidia GTX260+; Sound card; 6 GB of free space on HDD; Copy protected, requires internet activation; Joystick. OK, Joystick is a given... 4G of RAM is small by todays standards... easy to get more... GTX 260, OK, you can get on for around 240$... BUT, when I read i7-970, I really got depressed... This is a 1000$ processor (not counting the 400$ necessary for a quality Motherboard that houses a Socket 1366 chip... Is it true that Eagle is recommending such an expensive chip for best results with DCS Warthog? I am planning to get an i7-950, which is one third of the price of the 970 but put more money on a great videocard... What do you all think of this??? thanks JEFX

Fantastic and very very useful, thanks!

OK Just did some experiments : I started from an empty map with only 2 opposing countries. -First, I landed at an airbase with an ennemy truck at the airbase (right on it) and requested rearming and there was no reaction. -then, I took off again and destroyed the ennemy truch (guns, straffing) and landed again. Requested rearming and, again, there was no reaction... I made a new aspect to the same mission : -I added a trigger that spawns a friendly truck (5 minutes travelling away) when (and only when) the ennemy truck at the airbase is destroyed. -I straffed the ennemy truck and landed (before the friendly truck reached the airbase) and LO I was able to rearm ??? (how close, or how far a unit has to be in order to be considered PRESENT at an airbase? -I took off again and straffed my friendly truck (sorry...) and landed again and then, when asking to rearm, there was no reaction again (and I thought that was great). Can someone interpret those results? WHAT MAKES AN AB FRIENDLY OR ENNEMY AND HOW DOES THAT REVERSES???? THANKS!!! JEFX

Hi! everyone, This is a question about mission building that is equally pertinent for FC2, BS or A-10C and is destined to mission building gurus such as GRIMES for example (thanks!): I know that if you place a friendly vehicle AT an airbase, it will be friendly and vice versa, but how close to an airbase a unit has to be to make it labeled as friendly or ennemy? If you have an ennemy unit at an airbase, can you make the airbase become friendly by destroying it? (I.E. will you be able to rearm and refuel there?) Can someone clarify those params because I would really like to build a mission with changing sides airbases (depending on our actions, or various triggers...) thanks a lot! JEFX

???how does TRIPLEHEADtoGO performs???
JEFX replied to JEFX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I will buy it for sure! I even ordered my TMWH last night! But I need to know if I will be able to see anything with my setup or if I will be squeezed with my face in the windshield like in FC2 and BS... -
???how does TRIPLEHEADtoGO performs???
JEFX replied to JEFX's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks Thorvald, I was wondering... Jim Mack assured me that they are working with Matrox to fix this... But, before I buy the A-10, I want to be sure it works well with Th2Go... Doesn't sound too good for now... Lets see what comes up! JEFX -

Hi! guys! Does anyone out there is doing DCS A-10C with TripleHeadtoGO? I havent bought it yet and I am wondering if it is better than FC2, for example??? Are we still with our forehead in the dash? or has it been optimized for a wide FOV? thanks JEFX

Thanks Kylania, I will contact him. JEFX:thumbup:

I have the CH rudder pedals for a long time (they really last well!) and before LOFC2 I was always doing complex programming in their CH interface but now for LOFC2, I did the programming in the sim's interface, and keep the different parts of my hotas (all CH) independantly connected, therefore I need to have something in LOFC2's axis mapping page that could handle toe brakes and there isnt... :( it is a pain to have to press W when you have all the necessary hotas and pedals... JEFX

Thanks viper, this is great news indeed (I was very frustrated in LOFC2 not to be able to use the pedal brakes... or perhaps you know a way to do it?) thanks JEFX
