  1. I use it together with FC3 as a kind of Batllefield II pro. I really like the 3D-models. Normally I design a complex air-land mission and then I junp into tanks, planes etc to try to influence the outcome. Not really a DCS style approach, but big fun!
  2. Wireless since the wire was stolen by copper thieves, a real plague in Europe nowadays (last I was travelling in a 200 mph high-speed train in France when it suddenly had to brake hard to full stop because some copper thieves had stolen the signalisation wiring in plain daylight!)
  3. I do not seem to be able to convince the AI to bomb a target with LGB's. I tasked a B1-B: no joy. I tasked an F-117: does'nt drop anything. Tasked F-15's with LGB's and lantirn: nothig happens. I task F-16's with LGB's and Lantirn: nothing happens. I task in the same mission the F-16's with JSOW or Maverick: they attack as planned! Normally I plot a waypoint relatively far (10+ miles) away from the target wher I add the bombing command, and put the marker on the target, make sure the flight overflies the target by putting the next waypoint right over it. When I task an Su-25T it always works, whatever the payload.
  4. F-104 demo Is it sexy or what?

  6. Well this is simply the forum of a computer game so you will have to do with Google/wiki experts such as me. I think this forum is manned with people who have in general great admiration for the warthog ans find it a pity that their beloved sim aircraft is being withdrawn. And Yes we can sympathise with the loss of jobs and careers this entails. This doesn't mean however that the DoD' s reasoning is irrational. We are all able to discuss the motives mr. Hagel brought to the public, that is the whole point of public statements.
  7. The A-10 is not the only aircraft that can provide effective CAS, BTW the only reason it is still in the game is because it has been upgraded with ... the same Litening Pod that is also fielded on a myriad of other aircraft types. Read Hagel's entire speech on the matter here: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2014/02/dod-aims-to-scrap-a-10-to-keep-f-35-alive-in-new-budget/
  8. Maybe this post by Wags about the F-15C AFM has some relevant info to this question: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=117395
  9. I really like the smoke effect in 1.2.7, for me a nice addition!
  10. I still hit what I need to hit with the Kh-25ML, but indeed the AFM essentially porked it: it has become a kind of cruise missile, falling out of the sky like a brick and then lethargically flying towards the target through thick air. Range has dwindled. For me it still works but I am less than enthousiastic.
  11. A millimeter-wave radar such as the Apache Longbow can be useful for anti-tank missions: you can prepare your attack from a safe distance and engage multiple targets at once, as is also being done by the Tornado GR4/Brimstone combo. But this works best if your enemy is a regular force using tanks of which the signature can be positively identified. Such a Radar cannot easily see the difference between a truck loaded with peasants and a truck loaded with militants. Rules of Engagement will nowadays mostly require visual ID and then you might as well use optical systems such as a Litening pod. Those have seen their usable range evolve in such a way that you can engage the enemy tanks stealthily from safe distance also. Adding the Litening pod to the A-10 essentially saved it from becoming obsolete in comparison to mmw-equipped aircraft. But a Radar will always be an advantage in adverse weather. UK Apaches almost always fly with the Longbow radar.
  12. Tornado flies with 3D-printed parts! http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/news/world/raf-jets-fly-with-3d-printed-parts/story-fnjbnxoi-1226795256755
  13. Could this be a sound related issue? When you start firing, the gun sound would then cause the FPS drop?
  14. The fix in post #32 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1943823&postcount=32 completely solved my problem. I guess it is only an issue if your computer specs are just borderline.
  15. I must say it took me a while before I realized the FPS drop was the reason I couldn't hit much with the P-51D.
  16. Gun effectiveness Pfoe, I'm obviously not good at this ... before dogfighting I'm simply trying to shoot down an AN-26B. Besides the fact that the AI driver seems to be the son of Chuck Norris, I do manage to hit the plane, but not at all to shoot it down. In my best effort I put around 50 bullets in it in 3 bursts, but it still flies on unscathed, even with its belly full of holes. Are these not HE rounds? My second problem is that I have troubles doing the fine adjustments to put the gyro pipper on target: I always overcorrect so that the gyro goes berserk. Is there a tip to learn better stick control ? Anyway flying this aircraft is a dream!
  17. Even in the sim I went from 4 mavs to 2 to fly lighter. It is a pig really, getting altitude is a nightmare, let alone when you're overloaded. BTW the Tornado can carry 12 brimstone missiles, but in combat (eg over Libya) it seems it was mostly loaded with 3 on a triple launcher: http://www.defensemedianetwork.com/stories/dual-mode-brimstone-missile-proves-itself-in-combat/
  18. Finally a fighter deal that actually materialises! Good for Gripen, it's a nice aircraft!
  19. Its biggest flaw: no industry lobby machine behind it. It has just its combat record speaking out for it!
  20. Nice opinion article: http://www.aviationweek.com/Article.aspx?id=/article-xml/AW_12_09_2013_p15-641104.xml
  21. Nice find! Some of the designs remind the Bronco no ?
  22. ^^very informative article, which brings more detailed considerations to the table! The good old Pierre Sprey will never give up challenging the top brass! The "Warthog 2.0" concept sounds attractive!
  23. The A-10 is not the only aircraft performing CAS nowadays. F-16, Hornet, Super Hornet, F-15, Tornado, Harrier, Rafale, Mirage 2000, Super Etendard, B-1, KC-130 etc. have all been doing this in Irak, Afghanistan etc. With the targeting pods, advanced radio's, ROVER equipment etc. they have done very well, using GBU-12, GBU-54 etc. Then count in MQ-9 Reaper UAV, Apache helos, Tiger, AC-130 gunships and the likes. Second, A-10 was a dedicated tankbuster, not a dedicated CAS aircraft originally. Third, why would F-35 be bad at CAS? It has WILDLY superior optics/comms/precision avionics over A-10C with SADL and Litening II. The F-35's computers will have a HUGE computing advantage to programme laser jdam and other precision munitions.
  24. Dunno anything about the real thing, but in game I find the A-10C way too slow. I'ld prefer flying an F-16 or Hornet.
