Us Navy USS Enterprise (CV-6) Yorktown-class aircraft carrier
Bowie replied to Silver_Dragon's topic in Pacific Theatre
It's not that it's a bad choice. After the Essex Class, it is a fine stand alone Carrier choice. But, for the '44 PTO? in lieu of the Essex Class, not the best choice. May be corrected as we discuss, like the USS Forrestal showing up with the Super Carrier. Bowie -

Yorktown Class: of which there were Three. Only One of which even made it past the initial Solomon's naval battles, armed w/ Wildcats? With the Essex Class already in process, the inspired choice would have been the Independence Class. Of which there were Nine, w/ multiple in each Carrier Battle Group, all but one making it past the Philippines, and armed w/ Hellcats. [ED_dropping_ball] Nice Carrier, though. Bowie -

Distant aircraft and label scaling at higher resolutions
Bowie replied to ClydeBigBird's topic in Sim Research
Yes, this is a Uge problem in Stick-n-Rudder 4K combat. Have resolved the issue somewhat, by resetting the FOV to 45° (from 60-80°), and then correcting the eyeball location. WWII fighters now have a < 2.25nm visual detection range, but it should be Twice that. The views are now more accurate as well. Have these on buttons: Head in and out of the cockpit. Bowie -
With the impending release of the DCS "PTO," massed naval AA will play a major part. Does your programming contain Ballistic Coefficient/Air Resistance and Rate of Fire randomization? If not, the effect is "Star Wars" Laser Cannon, and the affect is unrealistic. In CFS2, being open-source, we solved the problem in two ways: 1. Alter each gun's Rate of Fire. By 2% intervals (+/- 6%) above and below Average Rate of Fire. This gives an initial broadside, and then dispersed rate fire from then on. 2. Set Muzzle Velocity by Time of Flight to Range/Altitude. For whatever the standard engagement range/altitude (20mm, 5", etc.) find the table or calculation for Time of Flight to that Range/Altitude. Then, Divide the engagement range/altitude by the time of flight to that range/altitude, to get an average Muzzle Velocity, and then alter it (+/- 6%) as above. This produces the oft cited "Golden BB" effect. Rounds randomly, or in streams, arc up at the A/C, like tennis balls, and are even avoidable, as they arrive at the A/C at the same duration of flight time as the real thing. Thanks for the work, and am looking forward to the PTO w/ great anticipation. B/RE: Bowie

A plane w/o guns - is like a woman w/o... Bowie

Me? Have three WWII modules: P-51D/BF-109K/FW-190A. Bein' an ole time, die hard, CFS2 pilot, stick-n-rudder flyin' is what makes the world go round. So, yes, the ETO is big, and the PTO, w/ carrier Ops, will be even bigger. As long as ED doesn't drop it for Basketball, the way M$ did? My money is green - let the good times roll. Bowie

Why Don't WWII Fighters Explode In the Air?

Why Don't WWII Fighters Explode In the Air?

This is not a debate - but a query. CFS2, we did this to the DP files all the time. No sweat for a programmer. Cut-n-Paste. Bowie -
Why Don't WWII Fighters Explode In the Air?
Bowie replied to Bowie's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
This sounds like an easy one. The effect already exists, just link it to the proper damage. Bowie -
They explode on impact w/ the ground. They explode in mid-air collisions. Exploding fighters was a very common occurrence in combat. When green vapor clouds are pouring from the plane, and the engine fire has propagated half way down the fuselage? That plane would detonate. Even tracers into the green vapor cloud would detonate it. Please advise. Bowie

This is so much hysterical adolescent nonsense. No One - is demanding... Anything. Some are simply tired of the seemingly endless hype and waiting. Aversion and hostility toward contrary opinion is both inciteful and detrimental to this thread. Unless that is what you are getting paid for. The rest of us are simply looking forward to this project, and would appreciate honest and accurate updates when available. That's it. Just that. Bowie.

Believing you can tell Adults what to do - is part of the adolescent sycophantic behavior mentioned. Not understanding the poor business practice coupled with poor reading for content skills only reinforces that. If you are interested in an example of better business practices? Suggest that you look at the 2023 End of Year Development Report - A-7E Corsair II , as an example. EDIT: Have read the magnitude-3.com/2023/11/04/2023-annual-update/ , and it was excellent. Will remain on this thread, and look forward to this module's development and release. You, may do as you please. Bowie

The most disturbing thing about this is the sycophantic defense of a poor business practice. "Relax, we are building your house." Eight years later - "You don't understand, and it's wrong to question." Why? No one - is asking for anything but common courtesy, and adults know that it will be ready when it's ready. And again, administrative threats - are a poor substitute for argument in the arena of ideas. Bowie

Reasonable expectations and honesty. Sit in a restaurant, handed a menu, and told by the waiter that they will be right back. "Two Weeks." Sure it's a joke, but hearing it every two weeks would be honest. Not liking what others think about it is a whole nother problem. Bowie

Contrary opinions... are. And Administrative Threats - are a poor substitute for argument in the arena of ideas. Some of us have been looking forward to this PTO expansion since the abandonment and demise of CFS2/1%. Waiting patiently, and being jerked around, are discernible differences to one paying attention. Bowie

My only complaint with this Fighter... the 30 mm mortar. Now F-4 or G-6/14 is the decision. Win/Win. EDIT: noticed that some of the values don't line up w/ the OEM MG 151/20, which is a concern. Bowie

TTBoMK - only: USS Block Island (CVE-106) VMF(CVS)-511/VMTB(CVS)-233 USS Gilbert Islands (CVE-107) VMF(CVS)-512/VMTB(CVS)-143 USS Cape Gloucester (CVE-109) VMF(CVS)-351/VMTB(CVS)-132 Made it into the theater before the end of the war, w/ USS Block Island and USS Gilbert Islands joining middle for ICEBERG, and then OBOE VI. Whereas almost every CTG from NOV44 onward had at least one CVL, and generally two. While the idea of operating the F4U from a CVE is exciting, it did not really mature until Korea. Bowie

Very nice. Will there be an F4U-1A version as well? Bowie
