  1. You'll need a new Windows license (I'm assuming Win10) if you swap motherboards. The rest of the components won't force you into that. On a side note... I built a computer for a customer and had major issues with the MOBO. I swapped it out for a different manufacturer/model and couldn't activate it with the existing Product ID. I called Microsoft and explained the situation, and they gave me a new license for free. So all is not lost.
  2. It's the Brits paying us back for 1776.
  3. The i5-10600K is a fine low cost CPU, and is one of the best value propositions for single-thread performance. My question is whether DCS will rewrite their code to support true multi-core, multi-threaded operation (which it DESPERATELY needs, IMHO.) If so, then you might want to look at CPU's in that general price range that have more cores.
  4. All I want for Christmas is the VKB Gunfighter base and a good F/A-18 stick to go with it. (I know Z-axis rotation for rudder is lame, but I'd love to find that in my stocking, hung by the chimney with care...)
  5. Thanks! (Neon cyan, eh...) Hmmm....
  6. Glad to hear you got it resolved. Did you disable Defender?
  7. If I may... When people say "Update: problem solved" or "Resolved" it's a good idea to include the page number that explains the fix.
  8. I really wanted this show to be well-researched. After all, it has the Smithsonian name associated with it. But damn... sooo many errors. They mention an F-15, and show a Tornado. They say an AIM-7 Sparrow is a 'heat-seeking missile.' Those are just two that I saw last night in the F-15 episode, but there seem to be silly mistakes in every one of them. It's like the firearms errors that drive me nuts... Glocks with a manual safety being clicked off. S&W 686 that holds 8 shots, big guns with no recoil. At least Dirty Harry got that last one right.
  9. If I had that GORGEOUS sim pit that exercise bike would never see a drop of my butt sweat.
  10. There were plenty of reviewers who said the same thing about the refurbished units. Also quite a few who said they'd had no problems. 90-day return warranty made it worth the shot. My post was not so much about whether I was dumb for taking that shot as it was about the price of Warthogs on Amazon right now.
  11. I have a TM16000 HOTAS, and wanted to give the X-56 a shot. I bought a 'renewed' one on Amazon, and the XYZ stick axes quit working after less a month. It has a 90-day return policy, so it's boxed up and ready to return. I figured it was time to bite the bullet and get a Warthog HOTAS. When I bought the X-56 the Warthog was $498 on Amazon. Today on Amazon it's $699, $899, $999, even $1281 from one vendor. Dell has it for $498. Sometimes Amazon sellers make me LMAO. I'll be using my TM16000 until the Warthog arrives from Dell.
  12. I love the look of the left/right DDI's. Is there a way to change the font color on the AMPCD map? The green font with the black outline is 'better' but I'd like to experiment with different font colors. I have your mod running in OvGME. I'm comfortable unzipping the file, editing .lua files in Notepad++, then re-zipping it for use in OvGME. I just need to know which .lua file and which line(s) to modify. Thanks.
  13. I don't know if you got this fixed, but I had the exact same problem. I think it's partly due to a mechanical problem with the way the stick rotates in the housing. However, it got much better after I did this: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025175874--FAQ-X56-Space-Flight-H-O-T-A-S- This will wipe out the calibration in the registry for the HOTAS. Once it wipes it, you'll need to recalibrate to build the tables again.
  14. That's what I did. I can't even imagine trying to get all the grease off. I think it's the most viscous substance in the known universe. Wanna slow down the passage of time? Introduce it to that grease. I tried alcohol, and that didn't touch it. I did find that Dawn dishwashing liquid worked so-so. I wan't going going to try anything else (acetone, mineral spirits, MEK, etc.) for fear of damaging the plastic. Lots of paper towels ended up being the only way I could get it.
  15. I needed this today. Worked perfectly - the blob is gone. You are right... there's no reason to use the cockpit RWR when you have a viewport. In fact, I've been flying my main monitor in HUD-only view lately. With Capt. Zeen's Helios profile I have the 3 DDI's, UFC, IFEI, and RWR right where I need them, and because I have a touchscreen, the controls are clickable. Interestingly, when I switch to HUD-only mode, the viewport text becomes much brighter and a little thicker.
  16. Good question, actually. I guess because I didn't know there was an engine start sequence cheat!
  17. I can see how you wouldn't want checklist items assigned to a macro. That's pilot stuff, and a big part of the realism we look for in the sim.
  18. What kinds of things do you program macros to do? I just got a new keyboard and need some ideas. First thing that comes to mind is programming one to do a cold start routine. Electrical power on. Wait 180,000 ms Nav lights ON Close Canopy Set throttle position to 0 Start L engine Wait 10,000 ms Start R engine Flaps to takeoff position What other things do you assign macros for?
  19. Thank you Eagle Dynamics, for fixing the F/A-18C cockpit displays. The latest Beta build appears to have directly addressed our concerns. I've seen reports that the Beta update makes the F-16 cockpit much better as well. Member SnapRoll posted these tweaks, which looked really good. I changed them a little bit (my settings in red.) Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts\Multipurpose_Display_Group\Common\indicator\MDG_strokesDefs.lua stroke_thickness = 1.0 (I changed it to 1.2 stroke_fuzziness = 0.7 (I changed it to 0.8 Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts\Multipurpose_Display_Group\HUD_AVQ32\indicator\AVQ32_init.lua shaderLineParamsUpdatable = false Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Cockpit\Scripts\HMD\indicator\HMD_init.lua shaderLineParamsUpdatable = false
  20. Thanks. I see people posting pics of their three monitor setups, and they look so cool. I do agree that VR offers much better immersion, but even the top headsets still suffer from some issues with clarity, ghosting, etc. Hopefully in a year they will get better, and render the debate moot.
  21. It's mine mine mine! For $35.00 this was a no-brainer.
  22. What a difference a day makes! I followed PabstBleuRibbon's setup, and what an improvement. Thanks, ED, for listening. I did increase stroke_thickness to 1.2, and stroke_fuzziness to 0.8, and everything looks soooo much better (your settings looked great, but I needed a skosh more thickness on my touchscreen MFD's.) Was able to disable the mod I'd been running (which had been only moderately successful at balancing out the MFD's and the HUD.) Now everything is crisp and readable.
  23. I am having the same 'dilemma.' My 15" laptop only has a GTX 1060 Max-Q chip, and I'm going to buy a new monitor. A new dedicated gaming computer is at least a year away. I will build it to run at least one (maybe three) 1440P monitors. I say 'maybe' because I might switch to VR with the new computer. Should I buy a 24" 1080P 144 Hz TN monitor ($370) or a 27" 1440P 144 Hz IPS monitor ($600)? Both feature true G-sync. I'm leaning towards the bigger one, knowing that I can run it in 1080P mode if my laptop can't keep up a good framerate at 1440P. I'm currently getting around 40-50 fps on mostly medium settings (1080P), and it's just good enough. One big question is whether 1080P will look good OK a 27" monitor. In my experience, sitting close to a bigger monitor running 1080P isn't as good as on a smaller one. I know a 27" 1440P monitor will look great. Westwood As for your questions, I think Free Sync is very important. Refresh rate and resolution are also important, as they determine the raw ability of the computer to deliver higher frame rate. Resolution is directly related to DPI. A 1440P monitor has higher pixel density, which means you can sit closer to a bigger monitor before you begin to be able to resolve individual pixels. 4K (UHD) has even higher pixel density, but it's tough to refresh all those pixels and maintain a high frame rate. Refresh rate also directly impacts the GPU performance. Redrawing millions of pixels 144 times a second is much harder than redrawing them 60 times a second. On the other hand, a higher refresh rate has obvious advantages. Basic rule of thumb - Given a particular viewing distance, bigger screens need a higher resolution to look 'smooth.' So, start with the size monitor you want, and choose the resolution to match. You don't want a 50" screen running 1080P 24 inches from your face. But a 24" monitor at the same resolution and same distance should look good. I wouldn't get anything less than a 144 Hz refresh. With FreeSync, the monitor will conform to the frame rate the game is running at. But a 60 Hz refresh monitor won't be able to take advantage of the available smoother motion when the game is running at 90 fps.
  24. I have daily Full/Differential/Incremental backups (Macrium Reflect) on two external drives, and a Rescue Boot flash drive. DCS is on E:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta I'm going to disable my OvGME profiles and run the newest update on my OpenBeta install. ETA - everything looks fine.
