Dear oculus rift cv1 users. Is it really worth it!
trigen replied to boedha68's topic in Virtual Reality
Just got the rift and i can run most maxed out on a 7700k @5ghz with a 1080 and 2666 32gb ram. Just keeping water to low and no civil traffic, 4x aa 4x ani. rest Max 45fps over vegas and 90 in unpopulated on the Mustang. thats pretty damn good While i get more presence in the Vive the Rift is so much more clear than the Vive, i think it just suits my eyes better cause the clarity is waaay better on the Rift, so much it shouldnt be possible. -
So i got my rift today and sadly the image squishes and stretches when i look around and the god rays are awful in this headset. The squishing and stretching is everywhere, so its a headset fault or software. Anyone else have this image distortion and have been able to fix it? Vive seems to be miles ahead here, i dont have any of these issues but the Rift wins on the clarity, much better. But if the image gets distorted and severly squished (especially in the edges but thats not related) it unusable. IpD is set etc. Can get it reasonable well with head position but still quite distracting Other than that, no doubt the Rift for sims. better tech, sim is butter smooth at 90 or 45

Been trying my best to install/find this in Dcs 2 but its just not there. Is this a known action from your side due to bugs or something at my end? Checked module manager, not there Checked install with dcs updater, module not found.

Seems like a strange thing not to support the biggest military flight sim and imo the best sim out there. Did they say anything on why?, surely this can be implemented in Dcs by the developers as it is in flyinside

I honestly cant imagine why anyone would use the touch controllers for stick and throttle, it just dont work. For cockpit control however its another matter, id love tho have the ability to click around and seeing my hands in there even if i have to pick it up first. But truly, we need gloves and it seems gloves are not far off for the Vive. You got lots of developers doing all kinds of things. Ive tried finding something for the Rift but i cant find anything. So im pretty torn about just cancelling/returning my incoming rift simply cause gloves will probably be here 6 months to a year before on the Vive. Thats unless Oculus comes out with a attachable tracker that's very easy to implement on existing gloves. Thats my opinion anyway. For now the ergonomics on the rift are far ahead but they are being left behind right now, also on the tracking side. Edit: For suepr casual stuff where you can rest both hands on your thighs i can work ok but i wouldnt really use it for a dogfight or anything requiring precision

Had VR for a few days now and all i can say is that im not really thinking of paying for any flying lessons anymore. Just flying the Huey for 20 minutes at 12 feet is pure joy, hover's are super easy! Watching the grass, shadows, the reflections. This is worth every penny and then some. Imagine when we get proper hand interaction! with touch vive or gloves! Its going to be magnificent. The only thing lacking a little is the resolution but the rest makes up for it by leaps and bounds. I also have a water leak in my eye so its essentially the resolution of the rift for blurriness but i really dont notice it ingame which is great. Nowdays im either flying or enjoying a mountain scene in Labs. -
Sure the sun is brighter in RL so what? You put shades or something in front. Fly into the sun in VR and you can either look to the side only or be screwed, its plenty bright enough and fills the screen quite well even when looking out to the side. So it could use a option like they have in the Gazelle

Its so cool! Even with the resolution a little lacking going back to 2d will just not happen, i got a 6 monitor setup if i want to but just no! Now i can have heli setup on my left, my wheel and pedals in the middle and my saitek rudders and flying setup on the right! Can just switch position super easy if the games support centering. -
So the sun is quite strong in Vr. Anything that can be done about that? sadly I don't have a working hand to cover my eyes with! Some mod for reducing it or shades would be perfect

Honestly just go in vr first, do 3 quick barrel rolls, throw up and say you can't make dinner ;) -

Just tried the p-51, amazing :D Actually much easier on the insides too, those helis are all over the place when you fly slow. The first couple of barrel rolls woah, ill be poking my old buddies in VRA for some formation flying with this one! -
Ended up doing a clean windos install, that cleared up my problems. Dcs 2 is 90 fps 90% of the time with high textures, medium range, low shadows 4x aa 4x aniostropic hdr. Just did a 10 min P-51 flight with minimal motion sickness. Who the hell needs flying lessons in real life

Could not have said it better myself, its just amazing! I still cant fly for more than a 4-5 min and god forbid if i let go of my stick for a sec, it wont stay where i put it so thats the end of VR for the next 30 min :D Man its just crazy how much your brain believes you're there. Also when you have the pilot on (on the vive atleast) and look down, its your feet and arms! I try not too though cause the head feels like its way to far back. Hands down the best buy i have ever done and ive been scrambling to sell off stuff so i can actually afford to keep this thing. Cant wait for my rift to arrive too, it seems more comfortable and hazzle free. -
Same deal with everything set to low really I can barely hold 90 and get lots of late starts when all on low and just ground with some trees. in the city it drops to 45-60ish but still eratic. Would like to keep a steady 45 or steady 90. Will experiment a bit Ill have the Rift next week though so i can decide which one i want

Got a new system now with a gtx 1080 z170 board i7700k @ 4.7ghz 32gb ram at 2700mhz Thing is when im on the ground with VR settings from the how to get 90fps im around 30fps in the caucasis 1.5.5 freeflight. With no buildings in sight and facing the sea i can get 90 fps but its very erratic and jumps from 75-50-90 all the time. The same on lower fps. It dont seem to lock at any fps really and its quite a lot of judder and such cause of this. I got both async and interleave async on in the Vive settings. Is it normal for the fps to be this erratic?

I think a bucket should be included in the essentials haha. It dont take much to get sick :D Reminds me of my first 6 weeks at sea. And it can get worse just suddenly when you thing you're fine too

Holy ****ing shit is all i can say, i just got my Vive today and its pretty front heavy so ille be returning it for a Rift later. I just had my insides turned upside down in the Huey so im out of VR a while haha! Not even in my wildest dreams could i have imagined how good it was! -

I'll test the 1080 for about 35 days I think and hopefully hear a proper release date and specs for Amd by then. They have a open buy policy for 45 so it's not a big crime to test it, same with the Vive, doubt I'll return that though! Gonna have them change the ram too 3200 before the parcel actually leaves them or ill just go crazy thinking about it now. While it clocks great the performance won't beat a true 3200 and I guess 2_5fps could mean the difference of 45 or 90 locked in Vr Trying to shop for VR on a manic craze like Carrie in Homeland is i hassle i tell ya, im actually worse than her. No sleep and changing your mind every 5 seconds, rift, vive, rift, vive. Bloddy hell. Lets hope the end result is awesome
-
Cheers, I'll gave a look at VA. Got lots of sticks/hotas so no worries. Wound up canceling the vive a get the rift though lol, freaking impossible to choose but rift seems like the better sim choice
-
Got myself a new system for the Vive cause well, i couldnt wait any longer! Gonna have to sell most of my RC helis haha but was kind of planning to anyway. 7-7700K 4.2ghz with ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING, 32gb HyperX Fury 2400hz, MSI GTX 1080 and the VIVE. So important steps for the best experience would be? Any mods and such?

I won't be able to wait if proper gloves comes that's for sure! Price is steep here though at 970$ + the new comp and gloves, but damn it's a dream come true!
