  1. I understand his reasoning: with flyable aircraft, it does not break compatibility because those who do not own the aircraft can still play with those who do (this is true with ED aircraft, and 3rd parties so far - it is yet to see how this will work with other 3rd party aircraft). But for maps, it will break compatibility. It kinda spoils the point of DCS World, although personally I don't think it will be a problem. Also, I don't expect all the hard work they did to come free of charge. I'm hoping for EDGE to bring a few new terrains besides Nevada. Probably not too many, as it is not easy to make one, but a handful, and I for one will gladly pay to finally fly in some new areas. I suspect they will have estimates only when the engine is integrated into DCS
  2. You mean "Super sabre", or "Hun". The "Thud" is the F-105 Thunderchief ;) Unfortunately, I heard the project is dead at the moment.
  3. I'm pretty sure Nevada for DCS World is planned to be the first EDGE map released. And I can't help but feel the map is a little small for realistic missions. Especially taking the borders into account (Georgia is really small for a jet). You pretty much have to fly through the whole map to approach a realistic range.
  4. That was in a deleted post by Wags about the F-15C AFM. You can read the original post over there: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1918982&postcount=8 Since the post has since been deleted, all informations within should be taken with a grain of salt (moreso than usually), but it may give a little insight.
  5. Note, though, that it only checks for updates once a day.
  6. Sometimes, things are not as easy at they "seem", and that is very true for programming. For exemple, wouldn't we have failures selectable for client airplanes if it was easy to code ?
  7. The fact that modern fighters tend to have top speeds inferior (or at any rate, not greater) than those from the 60-70's should tell you that top speed doesn't really matter. There was a time it was a concern (think MiG-25 and SR-71), but not so much now.
  8. Again, every airport has a unique course, indicated on the HSI, that you can use to discriminate which one you are tuned on. For example: 295 is Mineralne Vody 236 is Nalchik 219 is Maykop 062 is Sochi 126 is Batumi ... All tested with the F-15C cockpit. These are not necessarily exact courses. The course displayed for Batumi for exemple, is actually between 125 and 126. Those headings almost match the ones you can find by clicking on an airport on the F10 map (often within one degree - Maykop gives 218, Batumi 125, etc...).
  9. No it's not. I'm waiting for easily tunable radios in-game, specifically. That's why I said "complete". Not being able to change frequency in-flight is a show stopper to me. Now I could do with entering the frequency in the configuration panel, because I have dual monitors, but some people I fly with don't. Please note that I highly appreciate the amazing work you have done on TARS.
  10. I don't know if it cycles in the same order as the list, but each airport in DCSW will show a unique Course on the HSI, so you can tell them apart that way (note, it may take some time for the course indicator to stabilize on the correct heading)
  11. I'm not really familiar with TARS, as I'm waiting complete support of FC3, and even less familiar with Steam-based DCS World, but isn't TARS asking for the DCS World User folder in that screenshot, and not the game folder? Have you tried pointing it to your $User$\Saved games\DCS folder instead?
  12. I tested it the other day - not extensively, but at a set medium altitude and indicated fuel flow, fuel was indeed burned at the indicated rate  I didn't test with different fuel flows, so it may need more testing to be 100% sure. So it would seem that it is fixed, and I'm very thrilled about that
  13. It would look like kneeboard pages are stored in DCS World\Bazar\Terrain\Kneeboard I have not tried to add pages, though
  14. I'm not sure. It does seem a bit weird to get into pre-contact position without the drogue out (pre-contact should be a few feet behind the drogue, so without it it is pretty much guesswork). IMO it should work like the US tanker: get the boom/drogue out from far away, but still clear to contact only if the aircraft is in a good stabilized pre-contact position. I might be wrong, though, and I must admit I have no idea how russian procédures dictate aerial refueling.
  15. Hey, I'd like to share the last official words we got on this issue: So, ATM it looks like there nothing we can do with Hyper-v. :( I'm not sure what "current release" means. Current release of DCSW, Starforce? Well at least the door doesn't seem to be shut forever. (All the while waiting, of course for a real dedicated server software from ED)
  16. FC1 will not help, nor will FC2. The only thing you need is LOMAC (aka Lock-on), which is needed for the installation of either Flaming Cliffs game, as stated on its official page They are getting rid of the requirement by releasing stand-alones modules, on per aircraft. The A-10A and Su-25A are out, and the F-15C is in developpement (and should be released next), as is the Su-27.
  17. I usually go with 1 m = 3 ft 1 nm = 1.8 km (multiply by two and substract 10% of what you get, like 30 nm => 60 - 10% = 60-6 = 54 km) Not very exact, but good enough for quick conversion. Yes, my bad, I meant the Air Force only. And, BTW the measuring a person's height in feet and inches is something I cannot comprehend. I do alright with both kinds of miles, am ok with feet, yards, still having some trouble with Farenheit, but a "5 feet 4 inches tall" still doesn't tell me anything useful :)
  18. Well, it is already possible to control your ejected pilot, though it is more of an easter-egg. Other players won't see you move, and I don't think ennemies will attack you either, but it's a start :)
  19. I, for one, as a French person and raised in the metric system, had a hard time adapting to the metric system on russian aircraft for LOMAC, because every single flight sim I had ever tinkered with was in imperial units, and I was used to thinking in imperial units when talking about aviation (though not in everyday life). The thing is, it is not really necessary to use units that you are used to, because there is no point in comparing speeds, distances, etc... in aviation to those you are used to. It's kind of like insisting on getting astronomical distances in km instead of light-years, parsecs, au or any other specialized unit. For the record, Americans use statute (or land) miles (~1.6 km) and mph in everyday life to measure distances and speed, and I don't see them complaining that in aviation they have to get used to nautical miles (~1.852 km) and knots ;). Also, the french military pretty much uses all imperial system, for that matter (civilian planes are sometimes hybrid). And please don't let this become a imperial vs. metric topic, we're only talking about aviation standards here. .
  20. You have to be stabilized a short distance behind the tanker (ie. in pre-contact position) for him to clear you to contact position and deploy the drogue
  21. Roger that, I don't know a lot about VMs. I edited
  22. Alright, so it seems clear that ATM, we have the following: Working VMware vSphere VMware Player VMware Workstation ? (probably) Not working VirtualBox Hyper-V By the way, if others can and are willing to make their own tests just to be sure, the more the better
  23. I think our server is running on Hyper-V, and it doesn't work. In any case, trying different VM software is more of a workaround than a clean solution. It would be nice if DCSW could run on any virtual machine.
  24. Glad I could help! I'll try and do a little bit more: - for FC3, the (only) key would be called "Communication menu" - should work for the SU-25A - for the Mi-17 (Mi-8MTV2), it should be "Radio trigger RADIO", although sometimes it's working for me and sometimes not (gets stuck on Interphone) - for the P-51D, from a test I just ran, both "COMM Communication menu" and "COMM Push to talk" seemed to work - I would advise the latter (besides, it makes the radio switch on the throttle move, so I'd wager it's the intended key). Note that the P-51D has to have the radio channels preset in the Mission Editor beforehand. I don't own the Ka-50 (not the DCSW-compatible version, that is), so I can't help you there. Also: - the A-10C has 3 different keys (Mic switch) for the 3 radios En espérant que ça t'aidera :) It's a bit of a mess, really, with all those keys for the same purpose
  25. Do you use the "pilot trigger radio" (or something along the line) to pop the comms menu ?
