Bought it. I got lucky with the auto-updater, and downloaded the update during the first hours it was available.

Actually in DCS World, KC-135 are equipped with TACAN (giving both range and bearing). I don't know why, since AFAIK only the KC-10 has this capability, but it works. On the subject, for what is worth, I have a CH Product HOTAS as well, and I use 21/21 curves on pitch and roll, nothing on the throttle (never really understood why people would put curvature on the throttle - apart from very specific needs).

I am eagerly waiting for DCS: F/A-18C to do some SEAD and play the hunter instead of the hunted with SAMs :pilotfly:

I think this is not going to happen with the current engine due to the way forests are handled (basically, I think, huge indivisible areas marked as forests) - same reason why trees are not collidable and do not block vision. Maybe with EDGE, though, which should hopefully handle trees better. I sure would like to see that

As I understand it, for the A-10C, Ka-50 and P-51D, you just need to use the in-game radio controls, and can (maybe should) deactivate the radio panel. I disagree. While the radio window may certainly be a source of issues, I think it is infinitely better than FC3 aircrafts are able to switch channels. Anything less would be almost as dull as plain Teamspeak use to me. Realistic comms need switchable channels (and Guard) (IMO). The other issues is still that the keyboard shorcuts to change frequencies does it on the selected radio, and therefore that you have to speak on a radio right before changing frequency - bad radio dicipline. Frankly I don't know how to get around that - at the moment I will probably use the mouse (though the cursor is hidden in-game, it appears when hovering the radio window) for that. It's not like I will be switching frequencies all the time. @towsim Actually, what I experience really seem like true freezes, especially when (in the A-10C) I use the in-game radio panels controls. It seems that during the time it takes for the plug-in to take into account the modification (like switching from manual to preset on the UHF, or turning on any of the radios) and apply it, the simulation is halted. (I am not clicking or doing anything on the radio panel - though it ain't turned off). I will make a few further tests, and hopefully cross-check with others to see if it's just me.

You can preset the radios, so I gues it would be a matter of being able to run full-screen with the radio panel hidden. You wouldn't be able to check which Preset you're on, though. I have just given it a try (alone, so can't say if it is actually working - though I don't doubt it), and have noticed two things a little annoying: - I have a big performance when the game is unpaused (radio initializing I guess), and again a smaller one when some changes are made (like, every time I press a radio switch in the A-10C) - the game freezes for like half a second or so. Is it just me, or do others have this? If this is unavoidable, I guess I'll live with it, though. - The keyboard bindings for frequency selection in FC3 aircrafts works well, but it looks like there is no way to select which radio to change without transmitting on it (ie. there is only a select + PTT, so if I want to switch my UHF radio to another frequency, I have to X-mit on it first - not very radio dicipline-friendly). Is there no way to force DCS diplaying the mouse cursor? Otherwise, it looks pretty good, though I still have to test it with others :) Oh, maybe in the future, when other more urgent things are taken care of, improving the design and looks of the radio panel so that it blends better with the DCS environment could be a good idea. BTW, the other mods you guys are working on also seem great, can't wait to see them released

Wow, this sounds just like what I dreamt about (I actually suggested something of this kind about TARS - ie. you can use radios even if you're not in an aircraft that supports them). I've got to give it a try. Just to know, I guess ADF won't work with it by any chance ?

Active real military flight student needs a Lock On 2 partner
Robin_Hood replied to DrumminJ219's topic in Multiplayer
Hi, I would be interested as well if the times work for you (I'm in Hawaii Time Zone but usually free from late morning to mid-afternoon). I also could probably help you with the setting up of your multiplayer host, though it depends a lot on your router. I have set up a few ACTs for my squadron, trying to stay close to the real deal, and I'd love to know how you'd do it and train with you. -
Hey, Lib, here is the same scene in French (though longer - the scene is at 1:20)

Well, I must say this was my impression reading this topic: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69481 So is there something new or did I miss something ?

It is strange that it looks so foggy in your pictures. Anyway, I think (and I hope) the weather is on the list of things to improve in DCS. One of the problems is the inability of the current weather engine to get smoothly from broken to overcast, hence the big change between 8 and 9. It was explained somewhere that this is the reason why dynamic weather doesn't get overcasts. Another thing would be different cloud coverage depending on the location. Having an overcast somewhere, with a few holes to dive under, and only broken clouds somewhere else, hopefully with believable clouds (ie. clouds that have various sizes and do not look all the same) would be great

Night-Time Sky, Star Field Questions
Robin_Hood replied to DieHard's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I'm pretty sure it was already in Flaming Cliffs 1.12. I remember locating Polaris (via the Big Dipper). I haven't looked closely lately, but I remember that an issue was that the stars all shone with the same intensity, making it difficult and awkward to figure them out. -
An awesome feature in my mind would be an interface to add and use whatever radio you want (ie. you want your ground troops to have two FM radio and one UHF radio ? Add the radios, set the frequencies and transmit buttons and there you go). For the simpler modules (CA, FC3), this would allow not being limited by whatever radios would be built-in TARS, and would also allow human AWACS, ATC and such to use TARS without a DCS module to go with it.

No control over aircraft when aerial refueling
Robin_Hood replied to GodsPrototype's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Exactly. With the F-15C and A-10A, some kind of autopilot gets control of the airplane as soon as "contact" is established. This is not the case with the Su-33, or of course with the A-10C. Things have been that way since LOMAC 1.0, although FC3 v1.2.3 brought a few welcomed and long-awaited improvements (such as the ability to refuel in a turn). -
My understanding is that 1.2.3 is the CA release, with the new features. I may be mistaken, though.

How can I land Su27 with no forward vision
Robin_Hood replied to tonym's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Flaring for a carrier trap? I don't think so. The carrier ILS worked fine in previous versions (you could trap with zero (literally) visibility), maybe it is kind of broken now. -
I think the wrong part of Wags' post was emphasized. EDIT: Yeah, maybe it could run in an earlier version

Actually, I think there is something seriously wrong with the fuel flow gauge. I tried comparing 90% power setting at 5 000 ft and at 38 000 ft. Both have the dial showing 82 000 lbs/hour. I have not tested thouroughly enough to check if actual fuel consumption does change with altitude, but I'm reasonably sure it does (since it did in previous versions).

Should I update Dcs: World to 1.2.2?
Robin_Hood replied to starsky396's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
DCS: World is not in beta version. FC2 and CA are -
Les commandes de vol étaient rendues plus sensibles dès que la perche était sortie. Ce n'est plus le cas ? Je n'ai pas FC3, mais je suis curieux. Que veux-tu dire par "il faut maintenant aller chercher le panier" ?

Can AWACS using Bullseye be disabled in FC3?
Robin_Hood replied to Steel Jaw's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Sure. I was thinking future improvements. Like in Jane's F/A-18 where you can tell the AWACS to switch to Tactical calls. -
From what Beczl said on the Fishbed section, MiG-21Bis maintenance manuals, even from ex-users other than Russia, are not declassified. So, a MiG-29... Best bet would be civilian Fulcrums, for hydraulic, electrical and such. As for weapons systems, well... EDIT: with a link

Can AWACS using Bullseye be disabled in FC3?
Robin_Hood replied to Steel Jaw's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Since FC3 aircraft do not have Bullseye capability, it sounds logical to be able to make the AWACS switch to BRAA calls. Sure, you can simulate Bullseye with a waypoint, but it still is a long way from what is available in most modern fighters. Anyway, even for A-10C or any other aircraft, it would be nice to be able to ask the AWACS to switch between BRAA and Bullseye formats. -
Do you mean Fresnel lens on the carrier ? If so, are they brighter than in FC2 where you could barely see them, day or night (also, not sure they worked in multiplayer). I had completely given up the idea of using them, and just used the ILS instead.

How do you detect oncoming missiles?
Robin_Hood replied to fitness88's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Well, actually this particular movie scene is extremely silly. Not only the missile literally scratches the tail of the aircraft without exploding (ever heard of proximity fuze ?), but it makes a 360° and comes back again (and keeps on chasing the F/A-18 with a helluva low closure rate) ! Now that must be a next generation SAM, not an old serbian model. :music_whistling: But the thing is, SAMs are more likely to be spotted, yes. Again, if not fired from too far, but a lot of them are medium-to-short range. You can often see the smoke trail coming from the ground. MANPADS and other IR SAMs lauches can usualy be spotted and if they are, hopefully avoided with a hard maneuver and a bunch of flares (when able, I recommend a wingman looking for launches). That is actually the only way against IR SAMs (that is, apart from not being fired upon). I wouldn't try it with radar-guided SAMs. If not too high, it would be best to beam and dive to the ground, or even turn your back and pump, and come again later.
