Touche' Who knew that heating your home was such a contentious subject?
  3. It was fixed for awhile but it looks like it's back.

    I am excited

Good point. I have enough wood, though. The last time I got more than this, my wife said that it was too much. We just didn't have anywhere to put the extra. I tried the back door but it was just too tight of a squeeze. Anyway, I've always thought that "pre-ordering" isn't a real thing. You either order something or you don't. What we're doing is "pre-buying" ... buying something before it officially exists. I don't usually do it, but yeah, 30% is a decent reason to start. When my kids pre-order stuff from EA (or wherever), they rarely get much of a discount. I don't understand why they pre-buy stuff just to get the retail version of the thing when it comes out. Especially digital stuff. They pay for it before anyone's even seen it. It's hooked them into some duds. If they got 1/3rd off, it would have made more sense. I have yet to pre-buy a loaf of bread. I know that Razbam makes good stuff, though, soo .... yeah, first time for everything.

I finally bought some from this man selling it from his truck. It's so cold outside, I had to throw some in the fireplace to warm the house up! Now that my hands are now longer numb, and i can type, I cannot express how excited I am that the F15E is soon to become a reality. I never "pre-order" anything, because it doesn't make any logical sense to do so. For the first time ever, I'm going to pre-order this. Just because. I'm really looking forward to it.
  6. Just for fun, I set up a Combined Arms mission where about 200 Red troops (and some armor) cross a field near Senaki and try to take the airport, while about 70 artillery pieces and mortars bombard the living [solid waste] out of them. It was really cool so I ran it a few times, and toward the third run I got a CTD. It happened during the apex of the shelling, when about 20 projectiles were in the air at any given time, and the field was being saturation blown apart. I'm sure this taxed the gaming engine, and was an extreme situation, but I figured I'd report it anyway. I guess "GroundImpaceEmitter" is an array that stores craters in the ground, and it's popping the oldest crater off of the array? This seems to the point where I hit the CTD. Maybe I was popping them too fast, and there's a race somewhere? Or maybe two hit faster than the array could pop one off, thus overflowing it? I dunno. I was directing fire as a Game Master, so unfortunately it's not repeatable by simply running the mission. 7. Thanks very much. Unfortunately, I didn't even get a chance to run it a single time. I was really sweating the details and probably had another hour or two before it was ready to fly. This is good advice in general, though. Good idea. mission1.miz, mission2.miz, mission3.miz, etc .... until finished, then clean up.
  8. You know, I've been a user for 3 years and I've always been hugely supportive of DCS, but I'm so angry right now I can hardly see straight. I just spent 3 hours creating a mission, and the last 2.5 hours of it were lost. The damn thing crashed while I was placing text on it, making the file size of the mission 0 bytes?! Why zero bytes? I don't know, but the same thing happened a year ago, and the year before that. Both times I forwarded my logs, but damn if that helped anything. This was before the unfortunately-named "backup" feature, which I assumed would protect me. Well, it didn't. At all. I have one for every 5 minutes, starting 3 hours ago, and ending 2.5 hours ago. Why is the last 5 minute backup 150 minutes ago? Who knows. DCS is incredibly complex and I am amazed by what you guys have been able to do. I've always been extremely sympathetic to bugs and realize their inevitability in a project of this scope. These are zipped text files, though. Zipped text files! I can write an app to save and compress XML files, and I'm a moron! These are basics. Notepad-level stuff. The foundation on top of which all other features are built. Nothing else should be created until this one simple task can happen with 99.999999999999% reliability. For crying out loud, why not use copy-on-write or SOMETHING that won't obliterate our efforts so spectacularly. I hate pissing away so much time on a rare vacation day. And once it's lost, it's gone, it's zero fun to recreate stuff you already created, because now you're pissed off, and won't have anywhere near the same level of patience and detail. I just have to give up the mission-creating stuff. It's really cool in theory, but unless you institute hourly external backups outside of DCS, well, even then you'll lose an hour, which is alot. Damn. Just damn.
  9. My stick works great in every aircraft except the Spitfire. In the Spitfire, I'm always in a nose-up climb when I take my hand off the stick, no matter how it's trimmed. When I turn on the controller display, it shows "neutral" as being a bit below center, and the net result is that the plane is always pitching up. Even when the trim is 100% nose down. Something is causing this particular aircraft to not see the flight stick centered like all of the other planes. Does anyone know how I can center it? Thanks?
  10. Thank you very much!
  11. I haven't been able to and I wanted to see if it was my particular install, or if it's a universal problem. Are you able to: 1. Create New Mission 2. Stick any object on the map 3. Save the mission 4. Start the mission 5. Have it initialize and start If you try doing this, thank you very much. My Version is OpenBeta 2.8.1.34437
  12. I tried disabling all of my mods, and it takes longer to crash, but I still can't create a mission.
  13. Mission Editor -> Create New Mission -> Normandy -> Map opens in Mission Editor .... 5-10 seconds later, CTD No time to place any objects on map. dcs.log-20221220-073655.zip
  14. nullYou may already be aware of it, but currently, no scores are kept in single-player mode. in any map or mission I've used so far.
  15. I happened to see this in your sig: F/A-18C: Brunner FFB base with TM F-18 grip, How do you like that base? I've been wanting an FFB stick forever, especially for things like Condor and the WW2 planes (I don't imagine the FBW planes produce any FFB), and since that whole patent issue, they've been hard to come by. That looks like a compelling base, although my wife will beat me if I spend that much on a flight stick (let's face it, sometimes there IS AN excuse for domestic violence, and I represent most of them) Still, bruises heal ...
  16. Cam you tell me which specific one you use? I have the TM Warthog Stick/Throttles/Pedals. I really like my Pendulum pedals and wouldn't change those for anything, but I'm open to finding a superior stick/throttle. On a related note, now that the patent has expired (I think?), is anyone making FFB flight sticks again?
  17. Yes, it is being RETRACTED (lol, sorry, yank is a common word where I'm from, and one of the dictionary definitions is "the sudden removal of someone or something" ... the hose being the something in this case). Anyway, yes, it is RETRACTED because I break contact with the hose and drop back. I drop back because I am not very good, and am trying to learn the skill, and I know they retract it normally when you break contact ... which is exactly what Is happening in my case. That's why I was requesting a mode where the operator would leave the hose extended. That way, if you break contact, he will leave it out, allowing you to work your way back and reconnect. If I'm not mistaken, this is how it works in real life. When the pilots are training, they leave the hose extended instead of retracting .. so they can keep trying. The last time I was training for A-A refueling, it was super-aggressive with pulling it back. I didn't drop back more than 5-10 feet, and it was retracted. This makes acquiring the valuable skill of AA refueling more difficult. In my humble opinion of course. I didn't know you could do that with the Case II/III landings! I'll check it out! I'll also check out MOOSE. I have it loaded up in my template missions by default, but I haven't put it through its paces yet. This gives me something to try. Much appreciated!
  18. Oh no! I'm so sorry! I can't believe I did that, especially after what happened to me! See, about a month ago, I paged a co-worker about an issue, and when they replied, I said "Sorry for paging you, I hope I didn't take you away from anything important." "Eh, you yanked me away from the oncall meeting", he replied, "so I owe you a heartfelt thanks!" Wait ... what? OMG, I was so confused! "Wait, I didn't yank you out of the meeting!", I protested, "We're not even in the same state! How could I have yanked you out of the meeting?! You're a liar! You're a big, fat liar! I'm calling HR!" Let me tell you, I almost called HR too. Goodness, I was so angry, but I calmed down once he explained to me that it was common American colloquialism since the turn of the 19th century. He thought I was being pendantic, but I had totally never heard of it! Anyway, having just been a victim of that phrase myself, I should have been a little more cautious. Please accept my apology. I have no excuse. P.S. Oh the tanker RETRACTS the hose before you're done if you break contact and fall back a little bit. Of course, the don't do that in real life when pilots are training. They leave it out there so they can practice the valuable skill of air-to-air refueling. They call this leaving-the-host-out thing ... "training". That's why I used the word "Training" in my request. I get that my "yank" terminology completely obfuscated the point, though.

  20. For example: 1. The ability to practice AA Refueling without the refueling plane yanking the hose away. 2. The ability to do touch & gos on the carrier or get an LSO landing grade or the without having to use proper radio ops starting from 10 nm out. 3. The ability to request a Case II/III landing even in fair weather for practice and/or for when you're dangerously low on fuel. Some method to give refueling pilots, LSO, ship captains, etc the ability to realize that we are training/practicing. Some of these skills take some time to acquire.
  21. Thank you both, I appreciate it
  22. When coming in for a carrier landing, especially for a Case II/III, does the localizer consider the runway as static and stationary, or does it factor in the runway's movement to predict where it will be at touchdown? In other words, assuming the wind is perfectly calm, if you line up perfectly with the localizer, and hold the exact same heading from the point of lineup, will you stick the landing, or miss off to the left?
  23. Same as the OP. There is no fill or line thickness, and the background color is the same as the text color, albiet more transparent, and it's always bordered.
  24. Thanks guys, I'll give these suggestions a try. I appreciate it.
  25. Single-play offline missions. Ammo unlimited for practice. I am in a P-51 Mustang, intent on ridding the world of Nazi-ism once and for all. Battle #1: I plug the A8 19 times, no smoke, no leaks, no nothing. As if I didn't hit him at all. I get capped with 8 bullets, wing falls off, can't bail before meeting the Channel, mom gets a yellow telegram. Battle #2: I hit the FWA8 53 times! Plane does start trailing smoke after roughly hit #30, and the canopy looks like swiss cheese, but the kraut flies on, doing his thing and shaking his ding-a-ling. Me? Well, when I'm still on Superman's six, trying to deliver the coup de grace, an allied AI smacks into me from behind, and we both plunge to the Channel below. This time I bail, but the results screens tells me to go to hell because I committed "fratricide" (is it still fratricide if you're also the victim?) for getting getting clipped by my teammate. Not saying it wasn't my fault to some degree, but I was locked onto this bandit, close behind, for 5+ minutes. Not sure what the "right of way" rules are. So, after sinking 72 total bullets into A8s last night, I walked away with zero kills. How did the allies ever score victories? Did they wait until the FWs landed and drop grenades on them or something? I saved the trackfile for the battle, but it's bad. It shows no hits, only me missing for the first 3 minutes, before flying straight nose-down into the English Channel while spraying bullets into the water. I do have the debrief, though, which I used to count the hits. I played in VR with a really small, low-res window on the monitor, so the screenshot is really crappy and distorted, but this is the sausage-eater who took 53 lead suppositories only to flip me off and fly away.
