  1. Ok, I must apologise for the post here then. Any Admins, please feel free to move it. I forgot to include that I have already tried what you suggested - the only difference that makes is in how long it takes AFTER having been dropped until dumping me back to the debrief screen. And I would be inclined to say it isn't the modem/router at fault, since I can host with no problems, as well as play IL2, BF2 etc online without a hitch. Thanks anyway.
  2. Hi all, I have an odd problem when connecting to one of the guys who hosts down here. Nine out of ten times I am dropped after about 45 seconds to one minute. My aircraft will just disappear from his perspective. I can continue to fly for a little while (it varies depending on the timeout settings under network/config.lua), but all the other aircraft will just proceed along their last vector, and I am then returned to the debrief screen. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Why am I able to *sometimes* connect? My pings are in the 100 region, and very stable - we've had several other guys join, all with no problems at all. Why am I the only one who gets dropped the whole time? One guy even has very erratic pings, sometimes in the 1000's! Yet he stays connected. And why am I always kicked at such a specific time (I'm guessing about 45s to 1 min, I haven't timed it)? If I make it for longer than that, then I'm in with no problems. Please tell me somebody has some ideas! I'm using a 192kbps ADSL connection. Port 10308 has been opened for my machine, both TCP and UDP (not that it needs it for me to join as a client). When I host, this guy can join my machine with no problems, and he of course stays connected. I have also allowed Lock on as an exception in windows firewall, and opened port 10308 TCP and UDP, again, not that it was necessary, but I did it while trying to solve the problem. No joy. Help!
  3. Howdy all, This may be a completely pointless thread, but I just thought I'd share my results from my recent reinstall of LO+FC+1.12a, for those who might care. I had an install of LO that dated back to the original LO version 1.0. This had had the following upgrade path: 1.0 - 1.01 - 1.02 - 1.1 - 1.11 - 1.12 - 1.12A. In other words, it had been through every patch there ever was. Plus, it had been through multiple versions of LOMAN and MODMAN, with many addons installed/uninstalled/reinstalled, plus quite a bit of manual config/lua file changing. There were backup folders all over the place in the root folder, and the effects folder contained both .ogg and .wav files, all mixed together, with the occasional duplication. After having a problem with disconnecting from a host after about 45 seconds every time, I decided to reinstall. This was obviously then LO 1.0 - 1.1 - 1.12A + ZZSpace sound, plus some small changes via MODMAN (afterburner colour, sun, russian view mod) And the results, after this long winded lead in? Absolutely no difference that I could possibly see....none whatsoever. It's all subjective, I know, but hey. So those of you who aren't paranoid about fresh installs - don't bother. I'm sure there are a few who have had problems that a reinstall helped, but to quote the obvious: If it isn't broken, don't fix it. And that concludes my <2c! P.S. And I must add, the reinstall didn't fix the disconnecting problem! The problem was of my own making though, unrelated to LO.
  4. Just for interest's sake, we also played with 1.12 and 1.12A clients connecting to a 1.12A host. So that can work in the interim. Some official response here would be appreciated...
  5. Well, thats not the case here, it's legitimate customers who're getting shafted just because of perfectly normal hardware choices. Meanwhile, is 1.12 compatible with 1.12A for online play in the meantime? Anyone know?
  6. Just out of interests sake, (and for one day when LOMAC has it right ;) ), when is the best time to release chaff for defeating radar guided weapons?
  7. Hmmmm, dual core as well, that can't be it though surely?......
  8. 100%. I know it's not proper to correct grammar etc, but I had the same reaction! I thought Americans spoke a form of English?!?
  9. You may well have tried this already, but I used to have that problem with my TiR3 Pro. What I had to do was unplug it and plug it in again. I just got the typical sounds XP makes when unplugging and replugging a USB device, and it was good to go. The symptoms were: TiR visible in the device manager, but on loading the TiR software, there was no tracking. The window that shows the dots would often be bright flashing green, or just black. I closed the software, then did the plugging thing, then ran it again - that always sorted it out. It used to do this so often (especially after the computer had been 'asleep'), that I got a USB extension cable and had the plug sitting right next to me on the desk. The TiR 4 I have now has never done that.
  10. One of the guys down here also has the exact same problem - any official response?
  11. The TiR3 Pro does not have the vector expansion, and thus no 6 dof tracking. You have to purchase the VE expansion as well. The TiR4 comes by default with the full 6 dof tracking ability. Thus, comparing prices, you have to compare the TiR3 Pro + VE to the TiR4. At the online shop that I buy from close to home, this means that they cost almost the same price, making the decision very easy.
  12. Yup, like Brun said. Start by assigning the mouse to the view controls in 'all modes', that way it will default to that, so when you change to the individual modes, you'll just need to change BVR and Ground mode to make the mouse slew the TDC. It then works for Mavericks, the 25T's optics, and all A2A modes in US and Russian aircraft. Just be careful not to try and change the view angle while guiding a Vikhr in! Your cursor will slew off and make the missile head off into the wild blue yonder. The Avenger you were trying to kill will then kill you......I speak from experience.... Hope that was clear enough, it would be easy to show in the options menu, take a look and see how you fare.
  13. Thanks for the reply. The thing is, it would be great to have even just basic server software with rotating canned missions - no need for a whole dynamic campaign (which would be the ultimate, I agree!) We manage to do okay with scripted dogfight missions in IL2, it would be great to have the same sort of thing - just a basic remote access server, with rotating missions, maybe some sort of feature which allowed limited planes/weapons.....we can but hope. Thanks!
  14. Hi all, I must apologise for being slow here, because I know this has been asked and quite possibly answered - but despite making some serious use of the search function, I cannot get definitive answers for the following questions w.r.t. dedicated server software: 1) Yes or No, is dedicated server software for Lock On planned for release by ED? 2) If so, what would be the approximate time frame for release? Is it a high or low priority, once BS has been released? I ask because playing online in South Africa on international servers is a bit of a laugh, what with the stratospheric pings. Our local telecomms company provides servers for use, but only for dedicated server software! (The admins do not normally have physical access to the servers, only one guy gets to install the software) The local LO community is growing, but to gain any real momentum we would love to have our own dedicated server, similar to what we have for the local IL2 community. Hosting a server as a private individual is frighteningly expensive due to the nature and costs of our broadband market, and the dominant position of our single telecomms operator (who, to their credit, do at least provide servers as mentioned above.) I hope I have done a good job of explaining why I am asking this old question again, and apologies if the information was readily available.
  15. Well, I've uninstalled a whole bunch of codecs, and configured those that were left to use no compression. When I select 'Render to AVI' however, it's still just the same as if I had pressed the 'Quit' button - straight back to the desktop.
  16. I just made the mouse do the view changing in all modes other than BVR and A2G. As mentioned above, it works great. It's only those two modes that'll really need the cursor, IMHO.
  17. Online CD key = all that is needed IMHO. ie no play online without key, no other protection necessary. It's not like this is BF2 which would be pirated into oblivion. We're older, wealthier (ha ha, not after all the hardware needed for this!), and like our software and the people who make it.
  18. Oh, fantastic - I was a bit confused, somebody like you still using 1.02 seemd a bit odd! Thanks for all your excellent tuts, and work for the community.
  19. Jet....aaah, memories. Who else payed 'Jet' on the pc? How far we have come....
  20. Add MaxFPS = XX; in graphics.cfg where XX is the desired maximum. I use 50, for example. This might help the spiking to higher numbers. Mine seems to be one of two; 50, or 38. Very stable, no rapid changes. Although this isn't the first time I've heard of an unuseable in game FPS counter.
  21. How relevant is 1.02 to 1.12 regarding this tut? I ask because of the fairly big changes that seem to come out affecting missiles between patches. e.g. Chaff affecting SARH missiles in 1.12.
  22. Nobody seems to have mentioned FPS drops due to the clouds of smoke from gun round impacts - is it during the firing, or during the impact of the rounds? My pc still gets all slideshowy during the short time I fly through the smoke of the bullet impact. To test this, turn effects off in the options menu. If it's silky smooth during firing, that was it.
  23. I find all of that such a pain that it's just not worth it. IMHO the pilots screen is a total waste of effort. As it stands now, I would almost say they needn't have bothered programming it in at all. It's a pity, because I wouldn't have thought it would involve a great deal of work to get it right. But I'm not a programmer unfortunately....
  24. Wierdly, I have a similiar type of thing - when I use the MAN RNG rotary for MFD zoom in/out, it works - when I set it to control the 'target specified size' axis it doesn't. Odd, I thought.
  25. Ok, so not quite country & western then...
