Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat Patch July 24th 2023 + Hotfix 28/07/2023
IronMike replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
These fixes were primarily on ED side, and should improve the overlofting as well as looping during lofts, and the erratice post-notch behavior as the missile pitches up instead of trying to re-acquire the target. We had very good results during testing. It is possible that ED/we may follow up with further improvements as a small part of the fix did not make it in yet, but will be included in the next patch, hence the careful wording of "improved" instead of "fixed" for this patch.- 52 replies

Dear all, as always we would like to ask you for your kind feedback. Mainly the RB-05 fixes finally made it in that were left out the previous patch (our apologies again), we added Quickstart missions for Sinai and we were able to fix the EP13 black screen flicker. We hope you enjoy the patch and thank you for your kind feedback and continued support! Team Heatblur DCS AJS-37 Viggen by Heatblur Simulations NEW: Added Quickstart Missions for DCS: Sinai map. RB-05 Overhaul: Fixed RB-05 only able to be steered with radar in A0. Fixed launched RB-05s automatically setting radar to A0 (without moving the switch). Fixed subsequent launches sending the first missile to Valhalla. Fixed steering commands being sent to the missile beyond 30s. Fixed Black Screen during EP13 operation. Set the default position of manual fuel regulator to AUTO.

This is most likely on DCS side, and in case the issue persists, I recommend opening a ticket with ED customer support to sort the authorization issue. Our apologies for the inconvenience.

@MAXsenna if he doesnt shut up during AAR despite setting him to silent, then this is a bug. Please be so kind and make a report in this case. oh, and btw @Spurts - talking to Jester is something we're looking at. But careful, please, no promises for now.
-
Jester will basically be the same guy, as we mentioned before - recording him anew for the F-4 would easily slap 2 years time on the development, and unfortunately is not doable. He will eventually become more and more tailored towards the F-4, and Jester 2.0 will bring new additions and features, but in principle he will be the same guy, consisting of - mostly - the same voice lines. Maybe at some point down the line we will be able to provide an option for call frequency, etc - but atm that is not planned. Thank you for your kind understanding.

HESH Sharm El Sheikh International Airport / Ofir Air Base
IronMike replied to Rongor's topic in DCS: Sinai Map
I second this. Having Ofir would be really great. Many thanks to @OnReTech for the great map, too, it will be a perfect match for the F-4. We will be looking forward to populate it with some nice missions! Best regards from Heatblur. -
Hm, that is odd. I will take another look, thank you!

Anytime!

Yep, hence I added also in reply to his initial input, or basically underlining again what you said. This is precisely the issue here, that trim is being abused for something it was not meant for, added with having a concept of a "sweetspot" that simply does not exist. A great teacher, I shall also add to all the above, is flying formation. Not even looking at your instruments, but training to stay put next to your lead, picking a reference and holding that reference. The fact that there is no sweetspot will become very clear very quick. You constantly need to fight for position, always. Holding an attitude is the same concept, minus the visual reference you get from your lead aircraft. Hence training muscle memory, fine inputs, "flying ahead of yourself" by expecting the required counter-inputs and the concept of fighting for position works well when training formation, in the beginning best done around larger aircraft, and better even next to a tanker - and one would learn AAR more or less along the way as well.
-
Unlikely, only like half of what you are seeing now, which would be still half of the climb and half of the descent you are chasing atm, because you are defacto abusing trim for something it was not meant for. If you watch the video above, trimming was done intermittently, but the main job is the hand working the stick, constantly. You have a huge body that provides an enormous amount of lift on the tomcat, variable wing sweep, a massive fighter which also provides quite some drag all around, so finding a sweetspot, as you try, is a fallacy in itself. You need to fight for it. And the moment you get complacent and stop, you pay for it dearly. In the beginning, especially when you are used to fbw aircraft or more stable sim modules, or flying with more AP and aircraft that also auto trim, it seems like a giant setback and nuisance. But after a while this will change. Not only will it train your muscle memory to be more fine tuned into flying level hands on (which is the far greater achievement than flying level hands off with aids), it will become more rewarding, flying itself will become a task to master, and once you master it, it will propell your skills in all other aircraft as well. My kind suggestion is: stop chasing the sweetspot that does not exist, start training your fine inputs and muscle memory, and profit long term, embrace it.

In reply to this and the previous quote this was replying to: Not even, what you need to do is to hold your stick and adjust, aka work for it. Trim is not there to achieve a level, pitch up or down attitude, but to ease off stick force. You can fly any attitude in the Tomcat hands on, and because it isn't FBW, it is actually more of a should than can. It is a hands-on aircraft through and through. Which is the beauty about it. Flying precision is demanding, and thus rewarding and fun. And having a RIO is presicely what allows you, the pilot, to fully concentrate on achieving just that.
-
The trim has been set with extensive SME feedback, indeed. He's flown countless case 1s on speed (and much more ofc) - helping us fine tune the trim to the degree it is. The Tomcat has a pitch up tendency during level, cruise flight, hence frequent trimming is required, but when you are slow and set on speed, little trimming should be needed once you are established. Your hardware can affect this ofc, if the buttons are registering input, poorly. That would be noticeable though. My personal experience is that in a stable, level flight with little to no acceleration, trimming it so that one can be hands off for a few seconds is no problem at all. Additionally: you are not supposed to fly with trim, but hands on. Trim really is there to ease off the stick force you need, but keeping it level nicely, say within +/- 5 feet, requires a constant adjustment with stick input plus added trim as needed. On top of that, you have a fighter's AP, which is precisely there to allow for hands-off operation when needed, unlike an Airliner's AP which serves to optimize the flight in various ways a pilot could not really achieve. In other words: engaging ATT HOLD or ALT HOLD in an orbit to prepare your cockpit for xy task, is completely legitimate. What you shouldnt do is fly a case 1 with autopilot ofc, etc. A while ago a user had similar issues and I recorded this video, I hope it helps here, too.

Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat, Update 8th June 2023
IronMike replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Small correction/ heads-up - which completely slipped my mind above - the blackout on cat launch is an issue on DCS side, and ED is currently looking at it to provide a fix. Thank you for your kind patience, we hope we can add it in the next patch. -

Feedback Thread F-14 Tomcat, Update 8th June 2023
IronMike replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
That is odd. I just tried it again, and the pitch is now back to normal and no blackout on my side. Maybe some settings are interfering, like input from the joystick trimming up, or something else, like a mod, etc? Can anyone else confirm they are seeing blackouts on cat launch and abnormal pitch up followed by dive? EDIT: I tried a few more times and indeed got a blackout as well, however the trim and pitch up after launch seemed fine. The blackout for me was also only brief and ended before getting airborne, I would say it happened mid-cat launch for maybe half a second - ish. We'll investigate further. -

This is intended as is, the EIG was not adjustable in the B irl either, and was commented on as a nuisance by pilots. The above fix *should* alleviate that a bit, without making it unrealistic. -
Feedback Thread AJS-37 Viggen Update 8th June 2023
IronMike replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Dear everyone, please accept our apologies, we made a mistake in uploading the build as we run several branches simultaneously, and as a result unfortunately the RB-05 fixes are not included in this patch. They are however done and working and will be in the next patch or hotfix. Thank you for your very kind patience and for bringing the issue to our attention. Our sincere apologies again, we hope you enjoy this patch nonetheless. -
Like, two weeks, but not really two weeks.
