Thanks for posting all of the detailed info, Kuky. I cannot wait to try this myself. Man but DCS A-10C is an expensive proposition for me - new computer arrives tomorrow, TM MFDs ordered, and Warthog HOTAS soon to follow. Makes the cost of pre-purchasing the sim and playing the beta almost trivial - yet priceless :) Edit: Rep inbound!
-
Greb, Nice, concise overview. I hope a lot of people find there way to it and that it helps more consider jumping into the DCS A-10C.
-
Not at all I know it may not be everybody's cup of tea, but for me the more realistic the missions the better. After all, realism in the systems, avionics, flight model, etc. is what makes this such a great sim for most of us here. At least some of the missions and campaigns should reflect actual employment on the battlefields of today. Just my US$0.02...
-
Make sure you are not in "Game" mode when you go into the regular missions or a campaign. Have you checked the axis assignments in the Options?

I like to create simple missions putting targets where I like and then practice finding them while flying - worked well in Black Shark, too. Concerning options for dealing with the financial / wife aspect, see this thread.
-
Of course you could lead the target I suppose...
-
That's awesome, AvroLanc - had not played with the "Advanced" tab yet. Very cool if this already works in the beta - off to try it now!
-
I'll keep flying the Shark, too. Sneaking over ridge lines and between buildings gets my blood pumping every time.
-
My appologies - I inferred inaccurately based on context in the thread - should have read more carefully...
-
Fair enough, but still enough to may me think twice about crossing one's path...
-
Yeah, not much ordinance...
-
Couldn't have said it better - I feel most "final" software I buy today is in fact unfinished, requiring multiple patches to make it right. I think the beta DCS A-10C is very good, and know I will be very happy with the released product as well.
-
IMO you have nothing to lose, unless you are on the fence about ever buying alltogether. The beta is very good and provides all kinds of opportunity to try things out and learn the systems. I doubt you will save any money by waiting, and pre-purchasing supports ED in the effort, which benefits us all.

But not nearly as survivable in a battlefield environment, either - love to see an A-330 going evasive against a SAM launch...:helpsmilie:

@kylania: Brilliant! I never thought of the sweepstakes/contest angle! Hi, Honey, Guess what? I won a new really cool mouse-kind-of-thingy...!!!

I did this for DCS Black Shark, assigning the Cougar "Radar Range" knob to the yaw axis after my CH pedals started showing signs of being tired. Works OK for a heli, but I am concerned about how well this might work for a fixed wing aircraft. On the other hand, I've flown under only keyboard control plenty of times while traveling, so anything's possible...
-
I agree, but ever since they made "WCS" back in the Falcon 3.0 days and all the way through to the Cougar I've learned that I can't hold out for long and just start figuring a way to pay for the next offering sooner than later...
-
Please let me know how that works out for you - I've been trying to figure out a plan for doing the same. Some ideas so far: - buy wife a plane ticket to visit er friend in Denver, order and have delivered while she is away - buy wife something even more expensive and take delivery of TM WH HOTAS at the same time while she is distracted - rent an apartment someplace else to take deliver; heck, might as well just set up my whole simming system there - she'll think I am having an affair with all the time I am spending, then be relieved and forgiving when it's reveiled I am "only" flying A-10 instead Any way I look at it, DCS A-10C is going to be an expensive release for me...
-
Assuming ED is reading this for opinions, count me on the side for DCS compatibility with other DCS platforms and leave LOMAC/FC2 where it is. The latter is a fine low/medium level sim but I hope ED focuses on developing DCS modules going forward instead of splitting valuable resources to maintain FC2 compatibility.

I use the GoodReader app on my iPad for most PDF reading because of the annotation features. Out of the box, though, the iPad does a good job rendering PDF files. Flash is another story - out of the box iPad does not support Flash, although there are supposed to be 3rd party apps that help (but I have not yet tried any).

+1 DCS BS and A-10C were a big part of the reason I bought an iPad. I have all of my manuals and charts on it and it's great to have all that while I travel and am unable to sim. By the time you print a couple of 600+ page manuals at Kinkos (or at home) you're talking some pretty big bucks. Kindle (or Nook) are less expensive options if color is not that important to you, but some kind of electronic reader has become for me an essential "flight sim accessory".

Stuff like this is just great, and could just as appropriately be posted in the "Little details that you've noticed?" thread. I haven't seen this but will try jumping on the breaks more and see what happens. It might be fun to save a track, replay and watch how low the pressure drops on the gauge. Just because it goes low enough to set off the warning is not necessarily a bad thing - presumably the system still has some pressure, the breaks still work, etc. Great stuff!
-
It also depends on what they / we find testing the beta - so buy it now, install and start testing!

Check this post - The Mission Editor should have an "Add IP" function in the next beta.
