Realism/Study VS Action/QuickLaunch - Results
Zenra replied to StrongHarm's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
+1 Love this on my iPad - reading (the excellent) DCS A-10C manual on it now... -
Well, it looks as though you at least survived, and as the saying goes, "Any landing you walk away from..." Thanks for the video - shows off some nice detail, like the smoke trail from the presumably fuel-fed fire on your wing.

Somebody pinch me - I must be dreaming... This is absolutely awesome. I go away on business for a couple of weeks and come back to this! I couldn't get my credit card out fast enough. Thanks ED!

That's the simulated transmission of rotor noise into your system hardware - BS is a very detailed sim... :)

Make sure the Heading Hold channel of the autopilot channel is engaged (right panel) Edit: Sorry, that was a pretty lame reply; check out page 6-69 of the (English) PDF manual. Make sure the "H" button is lit, signifying the yaw dapener, and therefore the heading channel, of the autopilot, is engaged.

Excellent, Dragon!! I've been flying your missions but have not gotten to this one yet - anxious to try it now! Those were some great screen captures - any chance you can upload a track?

I run BS on a laptop: HP EliteBook 1730 Intel Core2 Duo T9600 @ 2.80GHz 3Gb RAM NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M I run at 1920x1200 full screen and get 30-60 fps except in the hairiest situations.

Hum, in my installation the switch is mapped as described in the manual: P -LCtrl - LShift = Radio equipment datalink UHF TLK, and it works as advertised. Have you checked it in your key mappings? I do not see key mappings for the Fire Extinguisher group switch, but you could alway assign mappings to suit...

Recommend you study and practice the two methods explained on pages 7-25 thru 7-28 of the (English PDF) manual. You can use the targeting computer and laser range finder to give ques in the HUD that help put rocket ordanance on target with greater precision. Also, to keep the ship from bobbing up and down make sure you have your autopilot modes set to allow you the control you need. If you are in auto-hover then you will be fighting the AP all the time trying to aim rockets; the same is true if you are in a Route mode, whether to a target, ingress point or waypoint. It's OK (even preferable) to have the pitch, bank and yaw dampers engaged, but do not use ALT HOLD or have the AP in any mode where it is being asked to fly the ship. One rather sinple way to do this is to engage FD mode.

Also, make sure you are pressing and holding the "Release weapons" button, not the "trigger". The former (RAlt-Space) is used to launch rockets, missles, etc., while the latter is for firing the guns...

Request - G940 Tips/Tricks Compendium
Zenra replied to Nose Nuggets's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, thank you, Slayer - I have been considering investing in a G940 and found your post and the links very helpful understanding its capabilities, particularly applied to BS. -
There are a number of good tracks in the Have I Improved thread There are also some good mission tracks in the Thracks please :) thread

See page 7-27 of the (ENG) PDF manual - "Firing Rockets and Cannon Using Laser-Rangefinder" Basically, you just need to have the Targeting Mode Control knob set to "Gun Sight". The targeting sight on the HUD is then aligned with the laser rangefinder; manouver to aim at (or at least near) the intended target and press the "Target Lock" button. After that the sight shows the predicted impact point (make sure the correct rocket type is also set on the ballistics data knob on the rear panel).

VERGEEV Group campaign RELEASED!
Zenra replied to FGSchtuzer's topic in User Created Missions General
Excellent news - and great timing, too - can't wait to get out of work and have a weekend to start this campaign! -
The ICAO codes are displayed on the ABRIS map and more aerodrome information is available when you slew the ABRIS cursor over and aerodrome location and press the INFO button. As Frederf wrote you can also use the SEARCH function to get a list of the nearest bases. Any aerodromes that are part of your flight plan are also displayed on the FPL screen. Is this what you are looking for?

Which says something about the immersion level you get with TIR...

I like attacking in a shallow dive with the targeting system set to show the computed rocket impact point. Set salvo size based on how concentrated the group is (which you will know from the thorough recee you did before setting up the run...). Most important part, though, is to NOT overfly the target zone - turn away before you get that close or you will likely get toasted MANPAD style. Having a flare program running helps but won't save you if you blunder right over them (speaking from plenty of blundering experience here...). Recently I have been practicing the "funnel" manouver but do not have it down well enough to employ in combat yet. Should also be good for rocket attacks as you can keep moving while still putting ordinance on target.

:megalol: You will get used to it, just like your RC bird, which I expect wasn't so easy when you just started out with it , either. Black Shark can be very demanding to learn to fly right, but very rewarding as you do (not that I've made it there yet, tho...)

It is usually failing to recenter the controls after releasing the trim button that causes this for me. Fastest way to recover is to recenter trim (LCtrl-T).

Minimum required equipment for enjoyable experience?
Zenra replied to Mote's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
+1 I've been wondering the same thing and would appreciate the views of other Black Shark drivers, particularly if anybody has had an opportunity to try both. Thanks! -
Very cool - new background for my phone!

I have to agree with what others have said here - I use a TM Cougar and am still tweeking the profile to get the button assignments optimized. You definitely need a rudder axis but it does not have to be pedals (although pedals will be much easier and more realistic, obviously). Track IR (or equivalent) will become a must, particularly when you stop practicing and start with the missions and campaigns. There is a LOT to look at in Black Shark, in all directions, so you need all the help you can get there. IMO, Eagle Dynamics should be getting sales comissions from Track IR, Saitek and the rest - I have already spent much more on hardware upgrades since buying Black Shark than I did on the program, which is easily the best US$39.99 value I've found in a long, long time.
