Definitely want to set the axis curvature as others have said. Also, if there is a cross wind, you will want to add a bit of aileron into the wind after disengaging nose wheel steering.

As Sinky said the guided bombs are usually best employed using CCRP - this applies to the inertial / GPS JDAM types as well as the laser guided bombs. CCRP is also useful for cluster bombs so long as you have a good mark on your target area, such as an aim point you set up through your TGP. CCIP works better in diving attacks when you want to keep your target area in your line of sight. Works well for dumb bombs like Mk-82s and such. CCIP also works well for firing rockets. It all depends on the tactical situation. There are exceptions, but in general you will use CCRP from high altitude to deploy guided munitions where MANPADS, AAA and other ground fire cannot reach you. If the tactical situation allows, or when circumstances require you to get up close and personal, then CCIP may be the way to go.

The jammer is activated by pressing the CMS HOTAS switch (z axis). It works by default if you use the TM Warthog; you will want to map it if using another system. The other option is to put the system on automatic, but that will go through stores rather quickly...

Upgraded to a Win7 x64 system the day I downloaded the release version of DCS A-10C.

There are a number of ways to create a mark point on the ground co-located with a mission waypoint, but the easiest I've learned here is:
-
I suggest you try one of the many JTAC training missions available, as well as search for the many informative threads on getting the "9-line" and "talk on" from JTAC. I have not tried the easy radio communications option but the radios are not really that difficult to use. Warrior has published an excellent guide, to which you can find a link in the sig of any of his hundreds of equally helpful posts here. In most mission I use all three radios extensively, so IMHO they are well worth learning to use and use well.

Would you prefer DCS A-10 over Black Shark?
Zenra replied to starkey817's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I, too, like both. As StrongHarm put it, blonds & brunettes. gotta love 'em both. (er, just kidding, Honey, brunettes rule!!!) :music_whistling: -
I've been experimenting with it as well as monitoring the forums here since the earlier discussion but have neither anything new to add nor have I seen any more info here on the topic.

I stand corrected as I misspoke - while the IR pointer IS a laser, it is not of a wavelength identifiable using LSS as far as I know.
-
As A16 said SPARKLE refers to an IR pointer - it's not a laser, so LSS is of no use finding it. As for the ground crew complaints, did you use ground power? If so they always say that, even if you correctly remember to ask them to disconnect ground power before taxiing.
-
Hum, don't know exactly how to answer that one. If you start cold & dark it wil take ~15 minutes to get things spun and to the runway. You do have the option for many missions to start on the runway, all lined up and ready to go, or even in the air. What most people probably really like about this sim, though, are its fidelity and complexity. even if you start on the runway or in the air you will need to study and practice extensively with the systems to use most of the weapons - at all. This is especially the case if you want to fly CAS missions under JTAC control. It is exceedingly rewarding, though.

New, full-featured SP Mission: "Midnight Run"
Zenra replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
Ah yes, I do remember reading something about that before. Thanks - that makes sense, then, since if I had to come back around on the target then the LSS did work as expected. As I said, I will keep flying this mission since for me it has become a sort of "advanced training" kind of thing - it's a good mission it that sense because it incorporates so many of the skills one needs to fly the A-10 successfully in most missions. -

Yep, I use Tigerrrr's AI Mod, too - definitely recommend it as it helps keep your wingmen alive and doesn't have any noticeable downside. I just ran the mission again using the ramp start and everything went fine with JTAC on the primary. I think the problems I experienced earlier must be related to checking in too early. I've flown it a couple of times successfully now, both from the ramp and on the runway, and as long as I check in with WARRIOR around 30 NM out the tasking and talk-on all goes well. I also wanted to report that there is no need to lase the bunker using your TGP - the GBU-12 guides onto the target nicely from FL200 with just the guidance of the ground team's laser. The only thing you have to do with the GBU in the DSMS is set for CCRP. Call LASER ON and SPOT on the way in, and release as normal. I'm not even convinced you need to initiate a laser spot search. Both times, when I got the red diamond on the TAD, hooked it and made it SPI, then slew all to SPI, pressing the LSS button didn't seem to do anything - the TGP didn't move but the bomb hit each time. Still really liking this mission and plan to fly it many more times. -
+1 Very nice guide indeed!

DCS: A-10C Warthog is a top seller on Steam!
Zenra replied to kingneptune117's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yep, very good news. Wonderful to see DCS A-10C selling well. The more it does the more incentive ED has to keep improving it, and developing the F- ... Er, you know what I mean... -
You will find after a while that you will trim almost without thinking about it - it becomes natural, just as is does when you fly a real plane. It is also worth noting that you should get the plane trimmed up before engaging the autopilot. Doing so will avoid departures when you turn the AP off. And, you definitely want to have everything in trim before attempting arial refueling - it will save much frustration.

New, full-featured SP Mission: "Midnight Run"
Zenra replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
I just tried again using the runway start and JTAC responded just as advertised - maybe the issue is with the ramp start? I will go back and try it from the ramp again and let you know what I find. This mission is a blast! Thanks again for building it! -
New, full-featured SP Mission: "Midnight Run"
Zenra replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks for the quick reply, Bahger. I am going to try it again as well and try to keep it shorter so I can post a track if I have an issue again. One question, though: When you say you always check in with Warrior 30 NM out, do you mean 30 NM from the Primary? -

Zenra replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
I just had another go at this one and while I had a lot of fun hitting targets I could not get JTAC Warrior to respond while inbound to the primary (I had FM tuned to 30.000). I tried checking in early, even before reaching the Fence In waypoint in fact - could it be that I checked in too early? All I ever got were the options to check in for the usual 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. It wasn't until I had overflown the Primary and made it to Deniro that JTAC called back, and then it was to direct me to a group of T-55s. The track is really long since I flew around so much trying to get on the primary again. I was able to still get the TGP on the bunker using LSS so the ground team was doing their job, but it seemed I was never communicating with them. I am sure I am doing something wrong, but any ideas? -
Is it legal to have this much fun without flipping master arm on?
Zenra replied to lobo's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
+ 1 at least - been there, and done that, too- often. Nothin' wrong with it - it's a great sim and worthy of just flying when that's what you have tome for. -
Take a look at this thread There is another thread somewhere, too, about mapping the key combination to HOTAS functions, but I cannot seem to locate that now...

New, full-featured SP Mission: "Midnight Run"
Zenra replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
Yes, I did the ramp start and it was somewhat challenging getting all the lights the way I liked them. The taxi was indeed a challenge and I took off probably 8 minutes or so late. I made up a little time on the way in and probably was over the target 5 minutes late. I was assigned a group of tanks to start and then an APC with infantry. My wingmen took out an SA-9 but was later hit by another and didn't make it out. I plan to try the mission again, several times in fact, to see if I can arrive on target on time and see what other targets become available. I would rate this mission somewhat challenging technically, but not too challenging from a threat perspective (although my wingmen might beg to differ...). You definitely need to know the A-10 and it's systems, but for me that's a lot of the fun and so this is just the kind of mission I look for. Thanks again for putting it together. Supporting an armored attack on a town sounds fun. It's fun using the TGP to scope out targets hidden among buildings and trees, so my request would be to make your next mission challenging in that way. Finding targets "AFAC style" is a very fun part of DCS, IMO - I just wish I could mark targets with WP and then direct my wingmen, or even better other friendly assets, to attack such marks. -
New, full-featured SP Mission: "Midnight Run"
Zenra replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
I finally had time to try this mission over the weekend and just wanted to come back and thank Bahger again for creating an interesting and immersive mission. I had a lot of fun flying it, even though I have yet to complete it successfully (due to my own mistakes). I took the approach Bahger outlined in his hints post earlier in this thread of lasing the primary myself. I want to try it again and see if I really need to do this, or if the laser spot from the ground team is sufficient in the sim to guide my bomb on to the bunker. Has anybody tried this yet? Banger, I really liked the voice work and the way the mission developed. Very nice use of triggers to make the player feel part of something dynamic. I liked the realistic feeling of the mission, too. The backdrop was very believable and the mission setting and time were perfect for drawing me in and keeping me immersed. I am learning the ME bit by bit myself and hope to one day be able to contribute stuff like this, but I do hope you will continue to produce more like this one, especially SP. I highly recommend this mission to anybody looking for a good SP experience. Way to go Bahger! -
Thanks, coolts - never realized the 9-line was saved in the messages, but it sure makes sense! I learn something new every day in this thing...

Yes, I believe so, from the WP / STEERPOINT Sub-Page 1 (see p 226 of the manual - can't check in sim right now...)
