VP-Airfield Equipment 0.8.2 beta
AvgeekJoe replied to Hawkeye60's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Thanks, got both the original and the fix. Asking as I'm going to release some missions before the end of September and I want the Kobuleti airfield - for starters - to be as real as possible... this add-on is amazing. -

Landing a Su25 on a road - can it be done?
AvgeekJoe replied to HedgeSlammer's topic in Mission Editor
Yup and best of luck getting the right vehicles! -
Landing a Su25 on a road - can it be done?
AvgeekJoe replied to HedgeSlammer's topic in Mission Editor
Hey @HedgeSlammer: #1. I think you can use an invisible FARP and then maybe lay down a hardened pad at the end of the de facto runway for where the Frogfoots have to ground turn. Let us know how it goes please! -
Having had problems in getting OPFOR artillery to fire once friendly forces enter a trigger zone... here's some advice. Advice given presuming you know where's where in DCS World Mission Planner and know the basics. STEP ONE: lay down some artillery vehicles. Not static, vehicles. Be mindful the targets have to be outside their minimum range represented by a green circle. You also want to name this group something you can remember and identify later on like "Nona". STEP TWO: you need some friendly vehicles on the move. You want to name this group starting with a prefix clearly indicating being friendly like TF. I prefer friendly TFs in the Caucuses theatre named after Georgian ballerinas (e.g. Nina, Nutsa) but that's me. STEP THREE: you need a trigger zone. Can be circular or four-sided. I recommend giving the artillery 2-3 minutes to get ready to fire at a point with a circumference of like 1000 feet or so. STEP FOUR: You need trigger rules. This is where we tell DCS what, how and where to shoot artillery. A) The best trigger rules are 2 Repetitive Action for Type and NO EVENT for Event. B) Then you want to under "CONDITIONS" either go "Part of Group in Zone" or "Part of Coalition in Zone". Make sure you select the proper coalition or group you want fired on. I recommend limiting this to "Ground" units in UNIT TYPE. You also must select the right trigger zone also. C) Finally, the Actions. You need to do two (2) actions - first, activate the artillery unit by first selecting for action "GROUP ACTIVATE" and selecting the group I hope you named clearly back in step one. Second, then you need to create a second action by selecting "GROUP AI ON" for the same artillery unit doing the firing. The below screen shot should help: This is what after a week of trial-and-error works. Safe to say this should work with some tweaks for SAMs & AAA. Finally, I have attached a static mission I'm still working on with more assets to be added to the final version & better routing + timing. But for the sake of simplicity I'm sharing now before those assets get added - like some Georgian Su-25s, an E-3 Sentry, some C-17s, and more Idaho A-10s. For starters. So please don't read too much into this. A-10C II Basic Mission 08 BETA v2 - Battle of Poti.miz

Not terribly wild about seeing Georgian T-72s try to swim.

Well we had a good tangent here. Bummer about the nuke modeling - I imagined a mission where your A-10C would have to be the last element of defense for your brigade combat team. But yes, having coastal defense missiles in DCS: World plus more ballistic missiles means having two more important sets of ground targets to go after. I mean who in their right mind would bring ships close to shore without having airpower neutralize the coastal defenses? Or not go after the Iskander threatening their airbase?

WHAT? Nobody has modded nuclear weapons in DCS World... heckfire they're quite modded into Strike Fighters: 2 via Combat Ace. Be nice if we had nukes to deal with.

Good comments on ships! Getting back to coastal defense, recently I read this book Red Star over the Pacific, Revised Edition: China's Rise and the Challenge to U.S. Maritime Strategy. The Chinese really are sharpening their swords for more area denial weapons like anti-ship ballistic missiles. I can see the Marianas needing Harpoons flown in to shoot at the PRC PLAN assets supposedly in the works.

@Northstar98 Without saying too much until it's done, oh I more than think we need the Hilux truck in DCS & SF2.... it's Beyond Sanity that the Hilux is not part of DCS: Syria.

All should be. But especially the 9K720. I just like the idea of F/A-18s or F-16Is having to go out and preemptively protect the fleets. Especially if surrounded by air defenses. Or A-10s and eventually F-15Es looking for 9K720s before they unload on allied airfields & logistics bases!

Militariy Aircraft Mod
AvgeekJoe replied to BlackLibrary's topic in Flyable/Drivable Mods for DCS World
Got a request for you @BlackLibrary to convert to DCS. Namely the AN-124 Ruslan. The Ruslan is used by the Russian Air Force, Russian civilian freight companies, a Ukrainian freight company and a UAE freight company. I would consider even buying the 3d model for you. Seems like a big Russian jet desperately needed for the Caucuses & Syrian maps. Attached are two of my photos: Caption: An-124 on the Paine Field Tarmac Caption: An-124 landing -

Agreed, we could use more Exocet options - especially with the upcoming Falklands Map.

Would you want ANY heavy aircraft modules for DCS?
AvgeekJoe replied to Wing's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'd love to see some flight sim developers for P3D - which is really meant for simulating military stuff - come on down here into DCS also! -

AvgeekJoe replied to Wing's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'd rather see third parties do "heavies". Me personally, I prefer Military Aircraft Mod + Civilian Aircraft Mod as AI Traffic. Just makes airfields more alive. -
Hey I'm someone who likes the idea of hunting missile sites before they unload on your base or coalition. So here's two modern & different missile sites to consider. First, the 9K720 Iskander. The Iskander has been used in recent wars, including in the Caucauses. A very good precision ballistic missile. Can carry cluster munitions or a single warhead. Second, the KH-35 BAL-E is just basically some Kh-35 missiles mounted on a truck w/ a supporting radar and fired at ships as per Military-Today.com. It'd be a serious target that would have to be prioritized early on in any theatre. There is also the Rubezh-ME for export that's a smaller platform, and Ukraine is making a clone of that.

As someone making up my own missions, would like more call signs please. Like say 100. Callsigns like Moose (C-17), Viper, Scorp (VAQ-132), Ironclaw (VAQ-136), Cougar (VAQ-139 - not just TopGun), OUTLAW (VAQ-141), and yes Maverick & Goose come to mind. Also these I scraped off the Internet - and yes, I think MAC is already in DCS.
-
I'd like to see the map go west to Kiev, but understand if no. Also more landmarks and even better terrain mesh please. Oh and finally, sure be nice to know on the mission planning map where Abkhazia is better. Also we need the Abkhazian Air Force w/ their Su-27s represented.

Post Mission Video Trigger for Learning and/or Entertainment
AvgeekJoe replied to flameoutme's topic in DCS Core Wish List
But a) You can already save a track and have the scenario replay. One can record that using the X-Box Game Bar in Windows 10. b) There's TACVIEW. -
Reading this, it seems to me that it's going to take third party developers like ropkena + @Growling Sidewinder to get and keep a Su-35 in here. Grateful to have the option to dogfight the latest & greatest Russian jets later this summer. (Right now/RN I'm focused on the A-10C Tank Killer II!)

So sorry @Rudel_chw I forgot to thank you yesterday, but thanks. Yes, the little clock at the bottom of mission editor will block both Civil Aircraft Mod & Military Aircraft Mod. Once I clicked off the clock - I got the aircraft to provide some fun traffic!
