  1. If you look at the specs, the Horizontal is 98 degrees, but the vertical is 90 degrees. The lenses are square, so I thought, why is that stretched out to 98? I'm happy with the G2 now. I am loving DCS in VR! I think you might get used to that after awhile. It's all relative after all. I manage my point of view by leaning forward to reset my VR view, then after I've got my switches done, reset the VR view once again in the "fighting spot".
  2. That's the motherlode. I set my IPD in OXRTK, but you can set in the DCS game settings as well. I have not tried this. You can also set your Custom Render Scale in OXRTK, your choice. My thinking is the G2 was pushed out of the factory over spec'd and perhaps unfinished (now abandoned with HP leaving the headset market). I started thinking, what if the FOV is too high, what if the resolution is too high, what if that IPD slider doesn't work very well? I just decided to take the 'heat' off the headset by lowering the resolution, and fine tune the view by shrinking the FOV and world scale. Seems to work. I have a question for @mbucchia: if I set my OXR Custom Resolution to 75% and I set OXRTK NIS scaling to 66%, will it render at 66% of 75% and scale back up to 75% (OXR setting), or will it scale up to 100% (native resolution)? My understanding is that OXR 75% is like running a 4k monitor at 3k, and adding NIS 66% would be like telling it to render at 2k and scale up to 3k.

  4. In User Files, the ratio for missions is 3 to 1 Hornet over Viper, and for campaigns it's 4 to 1 Hornet v Viper. FYI. The Hornet is still more popular by those stats.
  5. Watch the app GPU frame times. For example, if you are targeting a consistent 30fps, then the app GPU frame times need to stay below 33ms ish. This is similar to keeping GPU Load below 100% in GPU-Z. If I'm getting 30ms app GPU frame times, it means I'm using my GPU to the max, but not breaking the 30 FPS barrier. You can do the math for a target of 45fps, if that's your personal minimum. Your app CPU frame times will likely be below the GPU frame times in VR all the time. If not, turn up your game settings. If find you can crank the settings to the max with anything above a 3080. Read the OpenXR Toolkit documentation on github. There's a lot of good stuff there. I run my OpenXR at 75%. This is like running a 4k monitor at 3k. If you set OpenXR Toolkit to NIS 75% it will render at 75% and scale up to 100%, for example. OpenXR: no upscaling. OpenXR Toolkit: upscaling. That just scratches the surface.
  6. OpenXR comes with Windows. The default OpenBeta icon loads SteamVR. To load OpenXR, create the custom icon below. Nice thing about this, you can leave VR disabled in settings and use the default icon for mission editing, etc, and just launch the custom icon to play. You should get OpenXR Tools from the MS Store, and OpenXR Toolkit from github. Tools will allow you to run the latest beta and control your headset resolution. I have mine at 75% which is like running at 4k monitor at 3k. OpenXR Toolkit has tons of goodies, but for me, I adjust the World Scale to match my IPD, and shrink the Field of View to 90. Perfection follows.
  7. I made another one with all Su-27's. Looks like the AI is "cheating".
  8. You can see it just as I switch to the second Su-27. su27 stutter.trk
  9. Is there something wrong with the SU-27 flight model? If you ride along (F4 view) with them during a guns only dogfight, there is some kind of stuttering that occurs. I could make a track, but it's consistent.
  10. You should be able to hit these settings with 1080p. I have a 60hz monitor, so I get a solid 60fps. Terrain shadows are still broken, i believe.
  11. The default OpenBeta icon loads SteamVR. Or, you can create a shortcut to force OpenXR. If you run OpenXR, you should get OpenXR Developer Tools (MS Store) and OpenXR Toolkit (Github). I find the G2 needs a little adjustment for the World Scale (IPD in Game Settings or World Scale in OpenXR Toolkit) and Field of View. I run OpenXR at 75% with my 3080Ti, and that's it. No scaling, sharpening, supersampling, or motion reprojection required. With your setup you can leave it at 100%
  12. For the heat seekers, dogfight mode, switch to Bore, put the HSI on the right MFD, turn up the HMD symbology, and leave the radar on quiet. Uncage when you hear the howling.
  13. Great idea for some helo training that is current with today's events.
  14. World scale override The in game setting for IPD under the VR tab is similar, but I haven't tested this yet. Field of View I have mine at 90.
  15. I noticed that when I set field of view to 90 (which matches the height specs) I see no black bands. I just looked straight ahead and started dropping it till I detected movement on the peripheral. I'll give the IPD in the game setting a try as well. Right now I've just set OXR to 75% and turned off everything else from the toolkit. Super smooth.
  16. I'm not sure which headset you have, but with MR off that micro-stutter is caused by the gap between the lenses. This is why when you look ahead you don't see it, but as soon as objects are travelling across the lenses there can be a lag which is perceived as a stutter. Your brain just blurs things that do this across your eyesight. With MR on you get the wobbling affect which is a little less noticeable when you set OXR to 75%ish, but none of what I call the "90 degree" lag. Personally, I find it easier to get used to the lag now that I understand it. I've turned down the game settings just a tad, set OXR to 75%, and set the world scale and field of view correctly in OXRTK. On my 3080, this is a solid frame rate above 30 if not higher. No, scaling, sharpening, or anything else required for me. I find less is more in VR.
  17. There are a couple of newcomers to the VR field that have specs similar to the G2. They could have sold their IP. MS should buy it too and make a headset. I bet mbuccia could make a pretty good product.
  18. Although I don't have your hardware, (Virpil user here) I am setting a curve of 15 for pitch, roll, and yaw. That flight model is more sensitive to inputs.
  19. For those using the OpenXR Toolkit, you can adjust these values to sharpen your headset considerably. I am experimenting with 97% World Scale and 88% Field of View. For World Scale, you can dial this in exactly with your IPD (inter pupil distance). For Field of View, I just started dropping the value until I could see movement at the far edges of the screen, then turned it back up 1%. Feel free to share your settings.
  20. Watched a great video about the Giraffe move and the Mirage. Works well in Viper too, but right now the Afterburner is too weak in the Viper FM. Needs some oompf to keep going vertical without losing energy. I didn't mean to suggest the Viper can out turn the Hornet; I meant the flight models are coming together performance-wise.
  21. With an Ace level SU-27 guns only? The Migs aren't so tough, but the SU-27 is a beast to catch. It's good training. No radar locking of course. I find the AI are more agressive if you don't give them missiles, and be sure they have enough fuel to finish the fight.
  22. How odd! I'll test again after I have my coffee! After that comment, I switched from OpenXR 75% to 100% with 77% NIS scaling. I was thinking it was amazing it all worked so well. Check back soon! EDIT: thanks for jumping in to correct my mistake. That last test did not have the eye tracking. One test too many last night.
  23. Just got a new version of OpenXR Toolkit. Thank you so much @mbucchia So, I see now that the little bit of double vision you see panning your head back and forth when MR is turned off is the only real issue with having MR off. The sim looks much better with MR off, no question. And, looking out the cocking at 9 or 3 oclock will be jerky without MR (in real life it would be a blur). I think it's better to turn it off and get used to the artifacts. I am running the lastest with Turbo Mode On, FFOV ON, Eye Tracking ON, 10% NIS Sharpening. Still running OpenXR 75%. So far, so good.
  24. Just a shout out to the HP Reverb G2 Omnicept owners. Watch for being able to set BOTH eye tracking and FFR together. It's working quite well on the other sim. This is a must have, IMHO. Thanks again to the devs.
