Taking advantage of an offer to improve Setting Results
Leg2ion replied to Fakum's topic in Game Performance Bugs
OK - so that is odd - as I did not add DCS to Dragon Center gaming mode. I just ran it, set the User Scenario to Extreme, exited then ran DCS by clicking on my normal DCS Desktop icon, then uninstalled MSI Dragon and all its various components. I have had a quick look at Afterburner and RyzenMaster - and nothing seems untoward - no major overclocking being indicated that may have occurred in the background, all temperatures normal - so WAS NOT going to reinstall MSI DC. However, what I have noticed is my advanced power settings through windows settings are now at max. Not sure what they were on before - but now am tempted () to re-install MSI DC and reset it to 'Balanced' and have another look at the power settings - to see if this is what is being changed - power management mode in the Nvidia Control Panel still being set at optimal. -

Cheers @Fakum. Be interesting to see what if any results you get. It is almost going back in time to the dark ages when more time was spent 'tweaking' than actually playing anything! There are so many different videos, tips, hints, helpful, not so helpful bits of advice on various forums and a lot of out of date info. I 'might' at some point re-install it, then run Afterburner and RyzenMaster and try to log clock speeds/temps - to see if there is any major differences between the various presets - though for now I am hitting around 110 - 120fps with everything cranked up and all the sliders as far right as they can go. -

Hi - couldn't agree more but I tend to install them to see if anything has changed and someone has actually made something decent - then uninstall. Always do it in the early days of a build so if it screws anything up can re-format and re-install windows and start again. The 'User Scenario' is the page whereby you can select various pre-sets - the descriptions being 'Extreme Performance' - Provides ultimate performance for overclocking. 'Balanced' - return to system default settings, 'Silent' - Reduce noise by lowering the performance where possible and lastly 'User' - allows you to customize the settings. So a description of what the result may be but not how it achieves it. I did notice it installed RyzenMaster SDK, which has since been uninstalled when I got rid of Dragon Center. -

Hi guys - apologies for jumping in. Just built a new PC - DCS installed onto a M2 SSD, 32GB DDR4 with an MSI RTX3070 and AMD5600X. 24" monitor at 60hz/1080P. Got fed up with all the various videos, tweaks and advice - so spent a few hours playing with settings myself. No matter what I did the jitter/micro stutter was always there - albeit lessened or increased. Watching the FPS counter it would be at a sustained level but every few seconds drop to around half - which appeared to coincide with the jitter. I started with Nvidia CP at default, and played with the in game settings moving up from everything off/low to max out - absolutely no difference. Then set them to a reasonable level and played with the various NCP settings - none of the common current advice helping either. I then installed MSI Dragon Center and set the 'User Scenario' to 'Extreme'. Loaded up DCS - smooth as - jittering gone. Slowly bumped everything in game up to max/ultra - still no issues. Reset the User Scenario back to balanced - ran DCS - jitter back. So - reselected extreme, and uninstalled Dragon Center. No change - all still good - so it has obviously changed something in the background - but not sure what - as I cannot see any change or difference to CPU/GPU clock speeds nor to any of the settings. All settings in NCP are back to default, all in game settings at max. If that helps anyone good - just be aware of the MSI install - as it also loads something called cFos - which trashed my internet connection - and needed to be uninstalled separately. -
Hi All, Just getting back into this, and have now built myself what I think to be a pretty good system. Went for: Asus X570-f MB AMD 5600X CPU 32Gb (2 x 16GB) Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 500GB Firecuda 510 (Boot Drive) 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD 2TB Samsung 860 EVO M2 SSD MSI 3070 Suprim X OC (Before anyone points out I have PCIe3 drives in a PCIe4 board - I know - my mistake when ordering!) HOWEVER - still the dreaded stutter! I had RamCache III installed, Armour Crate? along with other various 'stuff' from the installation discs that come with MB. These have now been uninstalled as no value added - in my mind anyway. So - in the absence of hard and fast tweaks - the majority seeming to be a mixture of very long videos, black magic, dark arts and pure luck depending on set up - I spent a few hours playing with settings. Set Nvidia Control Panel on stock settings, and then set up a simple free flight over Nevada, and flew around. What I did notice was that the FPS (CNTRL&PAUSE/BREAK) would be around 120 FPS, then every few seconds dip to 38 - 40 - causing the jitter. Vsync - either in game or Control Panel - no change - still a discernible micro stutter - which admittedly did seem to lessen the longer the flight. Initially went through the DCS Control Panel settings - starting on low and working my way up. No difference whatsoever. I went though every Nvidia CP setting one at a time - same again. Some settings did help reduce it - but it was still there - albeit liveable with -but this is a new PC right - and you want things to work. So after exhausting all the various control panel options - I retired...but then began looking at the MSI website, and its downloadables. 'Dragon Center' - never seen it before, never heard of it - but give it a go - so installed it. Load of selections that I will never routinely use - but there is a 'User Scenario' option - Extreme Performance, Balance and Silent, plus user optimisation. So, selected 'Extreme' - went back into DCS - rock steady - absolutely no jitters/stutters whatsoever. Problem I do have is that I have no idea what that selection did/has done. Uninstalled it - all good. Re-installed it - went back to Balanced - jitters. So it is obviously doing something in the background - but I have not got any idea what. Reselected 'Extreme' and have now un-installed Dragon Center - and DCS is still rock solid. I now have everything cranked to max -and average around 110FPS with no jitters. Did also replace Ramcache with Samsung Magician (after the faffing), and then selected Rapid Mode for the DCS installation drive - which makes a massive improvement to the drive speed and load times - not that it was slow. Anyway - hope the above is of help to someone/anyone - and if anyone does know what Dragon Center actually does to settings please do tell.

The one with the FCR - if it went U/S on mission launch the D models without FCR were limited.

Fine until the 'doughnut D' went tits on launch...

New PC build...need some critique and advice
Leg2ion replied to Allentc2's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Also currently in the middle of a new build - with similar (ish): Asus Rog Strix X570 MB AMD 5600x Processor 500gb Firecuda 510 M2 boot drive 2 tb Samsung 870 EVO DVD RW Drive (old fashioned traditionalist) 32gb Patriot Viper Steel Memory Coolermaster MWE 850 PSU All stuffed into a BeQuiet case (which is quite nice TBH). DCS, IL2, Falcon, ARMA, Steam will occupy the Samsung. Once the PC is up and running intention is to move 2 x 2TB Hybrid SATA HDs from old PC into it for photos, editing, office etc. Same issues - getting a GPU is - errr - problematic. -
Many thanks all - all pointers and advice gratefully received.
-
Currently using an old 23" LG W2361VPF 1080p panel - though not to say this won't be upgraded. Tend to normally bin vsync.
-
More than happy to upgrade motherboard as well. Currently I have an AM3 slot/chip - so think the new CPUs are AM4? Was looking at the Asus Rog B550 Gaming - though not sure about the -I vs -F?

After some help/advice if possible. Just getting back into DCS after a few years away. Have always built my own PCs - prefer it that way as when it goes wrong it is easier to fix. My current setup is an AMD Athlon Phenom II 1100T, coupled with a GTX770 GPU, 16GB Ram - which was fine a few years ago. I normally plump for AMD due to the price difference between them and Intel - so have been looking at the latest AMD CPUs - are these better/worse than the current Intels? I have lost touch with recent hardware developments - but after some guidance for a decent modern gaming PC that won't break the bank.

Adding Squadrons to BS2 - Help Please
Leg2ion replied to Leg2ion's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Many thanks Michelange. Will give it a go at the weekend. Any ideas on the best resolution for the png file? -
How do I add pilot photos/squadron emblems or introduce new squadrons into the game? I am looking to make available UK Army Air Corps Squadrons as selectable squadrons for Great Britain, inclusive of emblems, as I feel the RAF options that are available are not indicative of an attack helo squadron.
-
Aha, I stand corrected BigfootMSR! Admittedly I screwed my first run at installing everything after a computer rebuild - and thought I could bring 1.0.2 into DCSWorld by installing the 1.2.0.0 patch...:music_whistling: ....'nuff said - it didn't work. I then READ the instructions and figured I had to BUY the upgrade, install it, then install DCSW then run the 1.2.0 patch to integrate, hence I have both a standalone and an integrated version. If I were to uninstall the standalone I am now assuming it won't effect the DCSW install? Another question, probably not for this thread but hope you can help or point me in the right direction... How do I add pilot photos/squadron emblems or introduce new squadrons into the game. I am looking to make available UK Army Air Corps Squadrons as selectable squadrons, inclusive of emblems, as I feel the RAF options that are available are not indicative of an attack helo squadron. Additionally I will be attempting to produce a skin in the guise of the new AAC Aircraft Camo Pattern. May take me a while due to work commitments but hope to get there eventually...

Basically if you only have BS 1(1.01/1.02) you're done - it will not integrate with DCS World - and will remain a stand alone product outside of World. As per BigfootMSRs reply - I would thoroughly recommend paying the extra bucks and buying the upgrade. I cannot put my finger on it - but it just seems better. Process would be: Install 1.02. Purchase and download Upgrade (gives you another keycode). Install - this then gives you a standalone BS2 installation. Download the BS2 1.2.0.0 patch - which will integrate BS2 with DCS World. Enjoy! Also download BigfootMSRs training missions - unless of course you are fully up and running in terms of BS flight...?! They are very good, easy to understand tutorials for basic/advanced aircraft training. Hope that helps...

KA-50 Black Shark 2 Training missions
Leg2ion replied to BigfootMSR's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I don't think so. Admittedly I haven't 'unbound' the arrow keys, but my zoom is on my X52pro left hand control slider - so I cannot think I would have inadvertantly hit the arrow key. Like I said, when I replayed the track there was no cyclic input, unless they are not shown in track replay? -
KA-50 Black Shark 2 Training missions
Leg2ion replied to BigfootMSR's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Hi BigfootMSR. Had an odd one the other day when i was running through the Wingman Datalink tutorial.... I had stabilised into a hover, selected auto-hover, and was running through the various datalink scenarios. I had zoomed in, but in the corner of my monitor was a small view through a window. Not sure what switch selections I had made, but suddenly I noticed movement through the window. When I zoomed out the aircraft was in a roll to the right, ending up inverted and non-recoverable :joystick: - with obvious consequences..... I replayed the track but couldn't see any inadvertant cyclic inputs in the cockpit, then also went 'outside' in case an over eager wingman had made contact - which he hadn't. Any ideas? -
Well, you would think, but if I revert to 256 it reverts to non-clickable mode, so definately seems related?
-
Anyone experienced this? Originally I had my cockpit resolution in DCS BS2 (and 1.02 for that matter) set to 256, to reduce the load time of a mission. When I entered the cockpit I found none of the selectable/clickable switches and dials worked. If I Alt-Tabbed out, then back in, all worked as advertised. When I was playing with settings the other day, I upped the cockpit textures to 1024, and eventually back to 512. When I entered the cockpit now, all worked from the offset. So, is there an issue with the 256 res cockpit?
-
Not sure if this will help, or is too late, but is something I experienced the other day. I have KA50 BS2 set up on my desktop. I have my desktop set for remote access from my laptop. The other day, I remotely accessed my desktop to check something, then a few hours later tried to use it for a training mission in BS2 (not remotely). The frame rate was appalling, and the aircraft rotors, when viewed externally, were easily countable - I reckon a RRPM of around 3! As I had been tinkering with some various setup files I feared the worst, but before I reverted the changes I had made, did a reboot. Problem solved! So it appears accessing my desktop remotely screws the graphics frame rate, which was resolved by a reboot.

Missions Selector - Aircraft Tabs Missing
Leg2ion replied to Leg2ion's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Many thanks for the reply. Yep - mission screen seems odd, but if yours appears the same then I am happy that either mine ain't broke, or both of ours are and its just one of those things! :D The Alt hold seems odd, as when on baro settings it doesn't actually appear to hold IF you make an input. It does if you don't, but I have found if I set the aircraft up for S&L flight then I can achieve alt hold without the Alt Hold push button being pushed.:joystick: I have scoured the manual:book:but cannot really find any additional guidance on the subject. I guess ultimately it doesn't matter, as I can fly at a particular altitude either using RadAlt or manually, thinking RadAlt being the better option when down in the weeds in the FEBA anyway....:gun_rifle: -
Missions Selector - Aircraft Tabs Missing
Leg2ion replied to Leg2ion's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Mission Screen - select the mission option on the right hand side in DCS world. Understand the basics of altitude hold but... If I have RadAlt selected on the RH panel, then hit Altitude hold when in straight and level flight, I get an advisory on the overhead panel, and if I make cyclic pitch input, I can change the altitude whilst holding an input, but if I stop and go 'hands free' then gradually the altitude hold brings me back to my 'held' height. If I have Baro selected, then hit altitude hold, no advisory appears, and I can easily climb/descend with cyclic inputs, and the autopilot doesn't return me to my height when I release the cyclic.
