£100 budget Graphics card advice
Conure replied to BIGNEWY's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It'd be worth it. You have a good rig other than the card. Can you not ebay your card that you have now for a GTX? with your rig and the 460 the game will be beautiful! -
DCS: BS2 graphics -- with the times, or ahead of the times?
Conure replied to Stretch's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
If you would like to see a beautiful game engine, I'd suggest giving Rise of Flight a ago. I'd hate to see what the RoF engine + DCS avionics would do to a cpu, but it wouldn't be pretty.. However I'm sure it'd still be a hell of a lot better than the FSX engine! -
£100 budget Graphics card advice

Being honest there isn't much in the way of an upgrade for you at that price range. Something like a gtx460 would be a worthwhile step up but you're looking at the region of £150. (about 15/20fps more in graphics intensive games, I doubt you'd see these kind of gains in DCS A10). I should imagine that if you could get a gtx460 in there you'd probably be looking at a gain of about 10fps, which in the world of simulators is one hell of a big boost :) (I think that it would actually triple some peoples FPS with FSX:D ) -
Hello all, I remember playing Sonic 1 on the Master System back in the early 90s and thinking about how much better it was than Mario, but anyway...For those Sonic the Hedgehog fans looking for a bit of nostalgia, I highly recommend Sonic Generations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8YGhjrxQVE&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL6B5003B47AF82B1E Just thought I'd let some old Sonic fans know...Very true to the original and also has new 3D gameplay. Really enjoying this one :)

Same for me actually - I've getting extreme slow down when using the Schkval (or whatever it's called!). Going to shelve this one until I upgrade to a rig that can run it!
-
Any time you want to talk about it...We're here :D
-
How long have you had it for out of interest. The reason I ask is because although I often hear that OCing shortens the lifespan of components, I don't think I've ever heard of anybody losing a chip through an OC. I guess that;s because most of us upgrade our CPUs before there is a chance for it to break!

Cheers guys :) will give all of these a go once my PC has finished stress testing!:)

Which does not extend to women - after all, we all know Russian women are 10% better than US women, and French are 10% better than Russian! Unfortunately English women are bottom of the pile, coming in at 20% below even the Welsh.

Hey all, Sorry, I've been assaulting the forums as of late. I've spent too long wth the NGX 737 and forgotten everything here! Anyway, with BS2 when I start, I am zoomed out really far meaning I cant properly see my instruments and the world has a panned out fish eye sort of view! Does anybody know a fix for this?
-
Hey guys, sorry to double post - just checked speedfan and get an "Aux" reading of +0.25V which is flagged up as red. Presume this is a misread/unimportant but nevertheless thought I'd ask :)
-
I think that's probably right! All those moving parts on the rotors must be taking! I'd imagine the flight model for a chopper is more taxing too? Could be completely wrong but I presume there are more forces at work!
-
In the past I gave up on BS thinking it was impossible without a full HOTAS, TRACKIR and Rudder pedals. My question is, is anybody good at this sim without using a rudder pedal set, or is it pretty much impossible? I find the chopper extremely tough to control with my X52 and TrackIR, but controlling the HMS with a TrackIR is possible the coolest thing ever.

I would + rep you all but I can't! Apparently I need to "spread it around". Cheers :)

Thanks EtherealN :) Checked that one and the max my mobo hit after some use on prime was 57oC! That was the northbridge.

Hey guys, I've recently got my CPU to 4ghz on a new watercooling kit. I was amazed as the whole thing was easy...The Corsair H60 went on in minutes with no issue, and the OC was a very short guide followed by the PC booting and 24 hours prime95 with no problems. Anyway, it's an i5 760 2.8ghz @ 4ghz...Voltage is 1.35...I'll probably replace my CPU in a year or so, but (for my peace of mind) it should last that long right? Bearing in mind it never goes above 65oC and that's with Prime after 24 hours... Thanks, hope you can stop my worries! :)

Hi, In quite the opposite fashion of the A10, this sim is 90% learning to fly and 10% avionics (what avionics?!) Anyway, here is a guide which will teach you everything you need to know to get started. Good luck http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2626185/

This is awesome. Worth every penny at a meagre £10.00 or so. Activision charge more than that for a couple of maps on call of duty, and you just got significantly more. No pleasing some people, thanks ED.

Initial impressions on Black shark 2 please
Conure replied to coolts's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
How much better does it look? Hey all, My only gripe with BS was the bland terrain (buildings etc) and lack of much on the ground. Is there a much better feeling of low flying now, and is the autogen much improved? I know it's the same as DCS A10, but it's such a different experience of flight I thought I'd ask! Cheers -
Been playing over the weekend. This game is incredible - I'm lucky in that I've got about 8 friends playing and we squad up on Ventrilo. Absolutely awesome game. I quite like the feel of the choppers too...they're (clearly) not realistic, but they do have a good "flight" feel to them..! I think it's also the best looking pc game to date.

Not sure if this has been posted yet: A10s! Very unrealistic but looks very fun nonetheless.

I see, thank you very much for the info! I'm actually one of those people that very much benefits from learning specific problems as I then start to develop better ideas. Would you still strongly recommend against it? Where would you recommend I start? I like a challenge but I don't want to be too bogged down instantly! Thanks again :)

A late happy birthday from me :)

Looks okay. Sometimes after a long day at work the only thing I feel like doing is playing mindless games with a fun story. These games have their times and places, in my opinion.

Hey guys, Well, I want to learn something new and have been considering programming for a while. I've read that Python is a good place to start. I've found this: http://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide/NonProgrammers And have started working through "how to think like a computer scientist". Just to say, I am a complete and utter programming newbie. I know absolutely nothing! Does anybody have any advice/resources? Thanks :)
