Hi Euan, I have been a way from the sim for about 7 months so I am quite rusty but I believe those squares can be set as SPI. Forgotten the exact control but it's something like TMS right long, or TMS up long or...something! You can roughly work out there enemy targets are using the RWS if they're firing lasers at you... Ultimately though it comes to what people describe as the mk1 eyeball - set up at anchor point or somewhere safe, wait and watch..

I used to have that cpu - are you unable to OC it? I think they get to 3ghz without too much of an issue usually but I presume given your time on the forums you're well aware of that!
-
If ED would release a reasonably detailed terrain (close to UTX) for Europe or the USA I would pay upward of £200 for it!!
-
Nice, same cpu as mine without OC??

New terrain!!! PLEASSEE!!!!

Nice one cheers guys

Anybody else here running on a puny 2,8ghz core i5? I know the recommened reqs are below this but most people tend to OC to 4ghz for this!

Hey all, Had a break from DCS due to RL stuff and unfortunately I came back to a dead mobo. Anyway I bought a temporary one which is micro, cheap and will not overclock. I'll get a Sandybridge in a few months but til then I'm stuck with... core i5 760 @ 2.8ghz 4gb ddr 3 ram gtx 560ti I know the PMDG ngx is unplayable at this clock speed (more to do with FSX being a wreck) but anyway, is it worth the reinstall and heading to my other flat to pick up all my sim gear (good few hours drive) or shall I just wait it out a few months when I upgrade? Cheers

Have to admit, that arm is kinda creepy!

Hey all, just stumbled across these whilst looking at how the astronauts on the apollo missionsd navigated. Complete overviews of all the systems on board - amazing! Would love a realistic sim for this..They were some very brave people. http://klabs.org/history/history_docs/mit_docs/index.htm

If I could get a PMDG level airline simulation for the whole world, that runs well with realistic graphics then it wouldn't be an issue. I think I've spent more than the amount you're stating on FSX as it is. Besides, flight sims teach real world skills - understanding complex data and concepts, flow processes, situation awareness etc etc etc. It's not wasted money if you enjoy it.
-
Without a doubt the most gorgeous simulator to date! If you have the money and equipment to run it :)
-
I've given up playing it :D Until I can get a decent Sandybridge CPU @ 4.2ghz + it's just not worth it. At Heathrow for example, I'd get 15fps and that's just not playable for me. It's the NGX that does it, I can get 45fps in any other aircraft, but NGX...15..I guess that's the price we pay for an airline simulator that is always within 5% of real world boeing published specs :) If you add vatsim to the list then I believe that's probably about as realistic as it's possible to get from home!

I want to get into flight sims and this game but...
Conure replied to Flacracker's topic in Chit-Chat
I think that if the sim doesn't grab your attention without TrackIR, you'll probably find it doesn't grab it with. TrackIR is great but you do need to enjoy learning avionics etc first, all of which can easily be done with a very simple cheap joystick and nothing else. I would suggest you build up over time - I started with the game and a cheap joystick, then I added TIR, then later added an X52 pro, then a whole PC upgrade etc etc...It's very rewarding to see your equipment grow over time. - and as you do you might find you branch into other sims such as Rise of Flight, FSX, X-Plane X, Black Shark etc - If you find you love one, most likely you'll enjoy the others too! Best of luck -
Completely agree - that's what Rise of Flight does and I believe it's doing very well (given the rate of improvement and new aircraft).

For an incredible flight simulator experience which is extremely realistic and looks great, I suggest the following package:- Flight Simulator X + acceleration Ground Environment X Ultimate Terrain X Real Environment X (It cannot be overstated as to how good this addon is) MyTraffic X PMDG 737NGX I believe that this package gives you an extremely realistic and beautiful base flight package, and you should also add a few airports for what you want to fly. Just be aware this will require a 4ghz CPU to be smooth over city areas.

Isn't it absolutely awful that fans of the genre are excited about and eager to discuss the next aircraft, despite it being discussed before? Or perhaps you'd prefer it if there was no interest whatsoever? My god this industry needs some more competition...This stagnation has led to an absolutely terrible attitude in some of the so called 'people of responsibility' on this forum...

Hey guys, Been away from the forums for a month or so on work. So anyway, has there been any increase in FPS with the latest patch? I was getting good FPS before but just wondering if there has been an improvement. Downloading now! Cheers

Origin is no worse than Steam or any number of other programs.

I respectfully disagree in as much as I don't think it's ridiculous to debate theoreticals of possible application of a said technology. The majority of us are those who have never flown in the real world, let alone in a combat aircraft. If pondering the possibility of something bordered ridiculous we would never make any progress - the nature of flight simulation leaves it wide open to amateurs and enthusiasts to discuss things which may or may not be possible, and one should not be berated or looked down on for not agreeing with the factual assessment of an expert (with no credentials other than the word of some on a forum, I might add). Ultimately this comes down to one point; should we be encouraged to speculate and philosophize regarding the use of technology and potential applications, or should we simply accept what already is and never consider anything further. I believe that one of those things leads to stagnation and one leads to development of ideas.

Steam Sale! DCS: A-10C for $20 till Nov 28th
Conure replied to kylania's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hi mate, Well it's a good deal more complex than IL2 as you have no doubt realised! The reason you lost power was most likely due to being inverted too long -the A10 doesn't like to be upside down for more than 10 seconds :) Regarding the HOTAS Warthog, unless you've got plenty of money then I would suggest going for an X52 Pro and TrackIR instead. I don't think there is anybody on the forum that would argue that X52 + TIR5 is a better way to play the game! Though the Warthog is much better than the X52, having TrackIR adds a completely different level of immersion. I'd advise playing the tutorials a few times and then mastering different areas - such as navigation first. This sim has so much depth that the content you'll find in the CDU alone puts games like Skyrim to shame! Hope you enjoy it though :) -
Sorry, I went really OTT with exclamation marks in the last post....It's something about Boeing jets...Gets me all excited...

Well technically speaking A10 was based on the same engine as Flaming Cliffs I believe! Still, I agree about that amount of money for an unfinished product but I would presume it will improve over time! If only we had a civilian flight sim of the quality of DCS. Can you imagine if PMDG worked on a sim for one aircraft only, like a 747, whilst just focusing on NA or Europe for terrain....they could create something amazing for hardcore sim fans!
