  1. Bad news for us all - this is the sort of scenario fiction writers use when instigating a third world war. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-21709917 Let's hope China see the light and don't back these lunatics.
  2. Well if that's true it's a good thing - but if I wanted to do highly detailed small city building I'd play Anno. For me, SimCity was about huge metropolis' rather than smaller settlements - though I haven't played the games so I can't judge, I was going off the feedback online. Still, the DRM is enough for it to have to be a firm no - I wish more people would veto this sort of behavior...Buying it just encourages EA to treat us like crap. If people stopped purchasing you'd quickly find this instrusive DRM disappearing.
  3. I can understand your points of view - Sobek, I can agree regarding the bugs, that could be a huge problem. I suppose a solution would be to have a human monitor every single drone decision but even then it's a huge logistical ask. Sith - It seems like it's a complete advantage for 'us' and complete misery for 'them'. For example, our soldiers won't get PTSD, we won't even need to train many of them - the few operating/overseeing the drone force could sit back in a recliner drinking coffee whilst systematically wiping out a small town. The destructive capacity of these machine is pretty terrifying - with the range of vision modes they have (IR, EM, NV and more) + instant connectivity to every other drone, I think any future wars may very quickly turn into complete and utter annihilation of an enemy with close to zero causalities inflicted...(in theory at least)
  4. Hi guys, Looking for a bit of debate I guess - about the rapidly progressing area of drones. The main reason I'm interested is because I'm coming to a close of my Software Engineering degree and the significant AI influence in it leads me on to a number of careers in the area which is big for drones - BAE systems being one. I keep reading things about drones being used to kill innocents, but a lot of the time it seems quite obscured by either hyper liberal or conservative thinking. For example, I'm sure these drones aren't intentionally targeting civilians, so why are they hitting them? Are they definitely hitting them? To somebody ignorant of drone use, it seems to me that it's effectively the same as flying in F16s, without any pilot risk. It will eventually completely remove human error from the process of assaulting war targets etc. The arguments from the (less that knowledgeable) keep implying terminator like scenarios - but these drones have about the same chance of deciding to turn on us, as our toasters do. We are so (so, so, so) far from any form of sentient AI it's not even worth considering. Also, how about the weaponisation of ground units: For example: And What are you thoughts on the use of drones? pros, cons, general opinions?
  5. Screw EA and all their games - they are completely removing power from the consumer and creating overly simplistic crap. Despite loving some of their franchises (which have consistently degenerated in recent years, anyway) I won't be giving them another penny. There are more than enough PC games on the way that aren't crappy console ports (Arma 3, DCS stuff, Star Citizen) to name a few. EA can go to hell :)
  6. Oh, wow - congrats on insulting the whole community!

  8. Haha imagine DCS NGX... "I'M LANDING AND...MY APPROACH IS ABOVE 25FPS? EVERYTHING IS TOO FLUID, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM DOING, I NEED THE MANUAL!!!":D
  9. I think a lot is lost in translation when native English speakers or those that have spoken it their whole lives are engaged in debate with the those who maybe haven't mastered the language. It does seem at points that certain people have struggled to coherently get a point across, and then become frustrated.
  10. Ohh shame I missed that, I would've contributed. I really hope this kick-starter stuff revitalises PC gaming.
  11. Hi, I am curious to hear thoughts on this. Given the recent interest and success of kickstarter games, I wonder, is there much potential for this with DCS addons? For example, if somebody really wants to see an aircraft completed by a third party dev, they could offer to prepurchase or add funding toward development. If you'd have said this to me a year ago I'd laugh and say "people won't pay for something that isn't finished" - but I'd have been very wrong!
  12. Cheers EtherealN. Also nice to hear from you - hope you've had/are having a nice xmas.
  13. Hey all, As topic - I am pretty low on HDD space (small SSD). I have BS1 installed in order to install the upgrade module, am I able to remove it now than the module is activated in world?
  14. After using DCS, Wags (I believe) was able to start up the A10c, fly and destroy targets, then land in one of the 'real' A10c simulators used by the airforce.
  15. A10 for $16...what a steal.
  16. Theater operations also includes logistics - you don't transport things in an F16 - and how about awacs too. If further maps were created I would presume they would be done by third parties and, therefore, generally of high quality. OrbX quality scenery in the DCS world - I wouldn't turn that down. I don't think anybody is realistically expecting a whole world mod, but I have no doubt we'll start to see expanded locales turning up.
  17. Also something that screws up mine (though I do wear the pro clip with ti5) is reflections/sunlight behind me. It works best in a dark room (though a lit room is absolutely fine, as long as there isnt direct sunlight/lights behind you) I expect the pro clip is a fair bit better though, as it actually emits ir light as opposed to simply reflecting it.
  18. that's odd - are you sure your camera lens is clean and has a good view of your clip?
  19. Thank you for the link. even the old screenshots look incredible. Hope this rig can run that at decent settings....Flight sims make me poor.
  20. Found them immediately after making thread...for anyone interested: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1309446#post1309446
  21. Dear all, I have searched this forum but am having a tough time to find info. There is a growing interest on the avsim forums regarding DCS and I have a small thread running at the moment. A few have expressed an interest in the EDGE engine, but (having searched) I can't find many relatively up to date screenshots, though I know they exist as I' ve seen them in the past. Do we have an area where all relevant information is available with screen shots? Cheers.
  22. I just had this response from PMDG regarding the DCS engine: "Gents- I'm an avid DCS A10C flier... I'd LOVE to have an engine that beautiful and functional to work with... but we will have to wait and see where they take it. In my opinion, the DCS simulation provides the best flight control feel of any simulation yet made. As some of you know, I am a lover of the taildragger, which means having a realy good feel for the rudder and aileron relationship. DCS provides a very realistic feel in that regard. " Great compliment from a top quality developer. The future may well be very exciting for those of us that enjoy heavies/non combat based roles in the DCS environment. 23. That makes more sense to me, thanks for the explanation. I always read it as 'per' by it makes perfect sense that, simply, it's just a division. Cheers
  24. Polar Bears don't have AA so I don't think the challenge would be great
  25. Thanks Eno - I wasn't sure as last time I downloaded the client it wasn't the newest version.
