  1. Been listening for a while now.... http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=70171&highlight=Great+find+Eddie.+quick&page=8 http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=70171&highlight=Exxon+squawk&page=9
  2. Typical half-****ed lazy journalism. Two minutes with Google is all it takes, but most journo's cant be bothered. Many countries have signed up to the CCM convention, but key players who are in the top ten arms exporters (like US, China, Russia) have not.
  3. For a shot of Bacardi and a bag of fries, they'll do pretty much anything you like!
  4. From any country you get some folks who are *&%$! and some folks who are OK. I guess you have seen one of each. Some folks in the military do get "over protective". I can remember years ago at an airshow in the UK, I was taking a photo of a US Army AH-64 helicopter that had come over from Germany. A man and his young teenage son were stood next to me. The boy was pointing to the ALQ-144 "disco ball" IR jammer and asking his Dad what that shiny thing was. The guy asked the US Army pilot who replied that he was sorry but it was top secret and he couldn't talk about it. I knew this was rubbish. So I explained to the man what it was and how it worked against early generation rotating reticle IR missiles like the SA-7 (9K32 Strela). The Army pilot listened to my explanation and was clearly annoyed. What an idiot, the information was all available in the public domain (where I'd read it) and no secret.
  5. I love that they aim them in the general direction of "away". The only thing they are sure of hitting is, well, Libya. Probably...
  6. D'Oh! Forgot to mention "A-10's over Kosovo", I lent it to a buddy so it wasn't on the shelf....
  7. 0:55 love the way they set fire to the sleeping bag! ROFL.
  8. Not quite bibles like Shaw, but nevertheless serious books that I would happily recommend to others are... William L. Smallwood - "Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War" An excellent read IMHO for anyone who likes to fly the A-10 in Lockon. By the same author, (Smallwood) - "Strike Eagle - Flying the F-15E in the Gulf War". Marshall Harrison - "A Lonely Kind of War: Forward Air Controller, Vietnam". A superb read to get an idea of what a FAC has to do and how he works. Harrison flew the OV-10 Bronco in 'Nam. Certainly in my top five aviation books. Lou Drendel - "...And Kill MiGs" The book that got me "into" jet combat back in the 1970's when I was a student. It was originally published in 1974, but I understand its been updated since and is still available from Squadron/Signal ( http://www.squadron.com ). Whilst on the subject of "serious" books, a final recommendation. Nothing to do with aviation, rather a WW2 naval book. Capt William J Ruhe - "War In the Boats: My WWII submarine battles". The story of one officer during the successful US Pacific submarine campaign. One of the best combat books I've ever read.
  9. I have it and I would say yes it is excellent and still regarded as one of, if not the definitive book on the subject. I would also somewhat agree with Mower. Read the reviews on Amazon; they are pretty accurate, this isn't a light read. I usually devour books in one or two sittings - you can't with Shaw.
  10. Heard 5 mins ago........ Another Brit. Havoc 73 declaring inflight emergency, request divert to Sigonella. Havoc 73. I am approx 70 miles SE of Malta. I am squawking 7700. Havoc 73, I have an oygen failure. Provided I stay at low level, I am OK but I don't have enough fuel to get to Gioia del Colle at low level. Havoc 73, requesting weather at Sigonella.
  11. More... US Exxon 05 squawk 1157 Brit Wizard 31 FL300 proceeding tactical Brit female voice (I wonder if it was that female Typhoon pilot?) Tartan 46 at FL210
  12. Great find Eddie. Had a quick listen tonight. Some Brit voices, plus some US (Weasel 15 heading 180 at FL23).
  13. You cant argue with that :D
  14. Some think it is a trailer made by Butlins as part of a corporate attack strategy on CentreParcs...
  15. Im no expert, but is it possible to compare like with like here with any accuracy from watching a video? I watched the live action video - that A-10 doesn't appear to have all its underwing pylons? Is it possible in the Sim to remove the pylons and their associated drag? I presume (since its doing acrobatics) that the live action A-10 is not carrying any GAU-8 ammunition. Is it possible in the Sim to do the same or does the Sim default to always carrying a full gun loadout and thus its associated weight. What weight of fuel is the live action A-10 carrying? We have no idea, so how can we fly the A-10 in the Sim with the same weight for comparison purposes?
  16. Which is kinda funny as Al Gore is all about global warming and saving the rain forest.
  17. Can't expect the US to spell colour when they can't even spell all the individual ones correctly (gray / grey). :D But I like the multiple meanings you can get from an English phrase. How about this one - "fruit flies like a banana" Did I mean "some insects such as fruit flies enjoy eating bananas". Did I mean "banana shaped fruit flies". Did I mean "all pieces of fruit will fly through the air with the aerodynamic qualities of bananas".
  18. Buy your ticket quickly before 28 Feb to save money. I would love to go, but I'm working that weekend :-(
  19. Real nice video's Aldo. The sort of well thought out and helpful stuff we used to see often back in the day, but maybe not so much nowadays.
  20. Sam Adams is good stuff and available around most of the US if you hunt for it. Agree with the point made about US micro-breweries, Ive had some excellent stuff over there. I can recall a great micro in Moab, Utah when I was there for a rafting trip. Commonwealth brewery in Boston was excellent too.
  21. I'm not. No, wait..... I am! The clue was in my name all the time. I'll put it down to a "senior moment".
