  1. Ooooh, harsh !! ;) You guys are supposed to be our oldest allies - 400 years of being on the same side against everyone else (french, spanish, etc, etc).
  2. No, the pic is from http://frontpage.velocity.net/natcaeri I googled to find a nice pic of that particular model and that particular site had the nicest pic I'd seen. When I say its one of mine, I didn't mean I operate it. I meant I was part of the team that designed, wrote and tested the software for the SSR part of it - that's the rectangular antenna at the top. Most every USAF base and US Navy base has one (or is supposed to be getting one). Even sold to Iraq (recently obviously :) )
  3. Is the radar in your Mod (clipped picture above) supposed to be this one - ASR11? Because if it is, that's pretty sweet as it's one of mine !!
  4. Perhaps the Devs could get sponsorship from Nissan for such "product placement" ? :music_whistling:
  5. That gave me a chuckle over my afternoon coffee after a frustrating day...... Thanks!
  6. Seem to recall reading an account of this event in William L Smallwood's book Strike Eagle - Flying the F-15E in the Gulf War.
  7. JLZ - what has been said above is correct. you get good radar returns off fast moving blades. Whilst we are talking here on this thread about helo blades, I have some personal experience of similar things but with turbojet blades. I can recall an incident at work while testing one of my radars many years ago. We had a test flight aircraft flying directly away from us. We got good radar returns from him and could see him easily. Once he was out to XXX miles, we had him turn 180deg and come back to us. He simply dissapeared and stayed dissapeared for a long time until he got quite a few miles closer. We were rather confused until we found out the type of aircraft and eventually we figured it out. He was a single engined trainer jet and while he was going away from us, we were getting good reflections from the blades inside the engine. When he turned, because of the type of aircraft (single engine with intakes either side of fuselage) we could not see the engine anymore, the curved air intakes masked the blades.
  8. Especially with a PIAT. Google it to see what a piece of rubbish it was. Major Cain won the Victoria Cross for his actions at Arnhem. British Army - hardcore.....
  9. Back in the early Lockon days, there was a "What age are you?" thread on the UBI forums that stretched to many pages. There were a few 14 yr olds, a few in their 60's but the average seemed to be mid to late 30's. Made sense to me back then, since that age group...... had the cash to buy a rig that could run it, had the patience to learn it, had the interest to stick with it for more than a month or two.
  10. If you are talking about vanilla Lockon (patched to v1.02) or FC1 or FC2 then on US jets it is ENTER that fires missiles, rockets, bombs and SPACEBAR that fires cannon. In Russian jets, the SPACEBAR fires everything. In addition, in FC2 (as already mentioned above) you have to hold it for longer to get the missile off......
  11. When the A-10 was originally designed, only pylons 3 and 9 were wired up for Maverick use. The recent A-10 upgrade to the A-10C does not appear to have added to that. I can only assume that drag and weight issues are the reason. The accounts I've read of A-10 usage in GW1 and GW2 tend to have the A-10 carrying only 2 or 4 Mavs on actual missions, so I guess the USAF feel that the aircraft is currently adequate as is.
  12. igormk and mbot have hit the nail on the head. You cant simply pick up a pair of NVG's and go. To use NVG's you need the cockpit lighting to be modified to be NVG compatable.
  13. It never has given a RWR warning in any version of lockon, I can recall folks asking his question 6 years ago on the forums. I guess the Devs modelled Strela-10 with the operator being a "sneaky SOB" and not switching it on.
  14. I'd always assumed that ED had simply made a misprint and meant the AGM-65B rather than 65K. From what I've read - many, many more 65B's were manufactured than K's.
  15. Never heard of HARM being integrated onto A-10. My initial reaction to that link would be to say that you can read a lot of nonsense on the Internet. I'd also agree with EtherealN that a keyboard overlay to an old game isn't much proof......
  16. No, they were designed to be easy to remember names for the NATO military (from many different countries) to use to identify enemy weapons / aircraft, etc. A soldier tired, cold, scared, short of sleep, etc, etc wants things as easy as possible to remember and to be able to report. I'm a civilian myself, but I did work in the defence industry for many years and was always interested in what the "other side" had. So for the last 30 years I've been able to identify a Spoon Rest, a Bar Lock or indeed a Dog Ear. Why would NATO need to make up reporting names for their OWN stuff? The following conversation is pretty unlikely....... "I need more ammo for my tank." "What sort is it?" "I can't remember." The point of the reporting names is to report things you've seen. "I've just seen a Backfire fly over me, you might want to shoot it down", or "I've just found a Scud site, suggest you come drop a bomb on it". They don't need to say that about their own planes or their own missiles.
  17. Moscow in January. You better believe it people - Global warming - it's for real !! :)
  18. Cheered up my day as per usual, you nut !
  19. Good find. I recently re-read Warthog: Flying the A-10 in the Gulf War by William L. Smallwood (I'd highly recommend it to anyone, ditto his book about the F-15E) and this incident is described in there. Sweet to see the video of it and put a face to a pilot's name.
  20. Do you want Flaming Cliffs 2 missions? Not been released very long so folks have not had much of a chance to write missions Do you want Flaming Cliffs 1 missions or vanilla Lockon missions? More around since they have around for years, try these links. I can't say for sure that they are vanilla Lockon or FC stuff, you'll have to check. Sometimes they have helpful names that include 1.02 or F.C. or 1.11 etc in the mission names, some community sites will mention the version of Lockon that the mission was designed for. Vanilla Lockon missions will generally play OK on FC1, but the changes in AI behaviour etc in FC1 may mean that the mission does not play out as originally designed by the author, it might be harder or easier. 21. Thought I remembered seeing it on the forums before. Personally I like the digital camo's. That grey MiG-29 looks fabulous. I can see what folks mean about the black parts on that Su-25, maybe look better if they were toned down.
  22. So sad news to hear of one of our own being hurt. Fingers crossed for his full recovery...
  23. As joey45 said - the A-10A version is what they had in 1991 in the Gulf....
