I have absolutely no skills in writing code and I have looked into it somewhat and was immediately discouraged to try it myself, but Androids are getting very little love for this Sim. There is currently one app I am aware of that has something for DCS, I think it's called DCS manager, but there is an idea I have had for a more user friendly version of that, that android users on their tablets would absolutely love ( I think ). The idea is to have the TC-1 map (http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/documentation/tc-1/) showing all the active runways we have for DCS of the region. You are able to simply tap one airfield, and a pop up shows up with the information of that airfield (tower, runway headings, ILS, Tacan, etc), these maps would be the same as the ones from the kneeboard mod of peter P found here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=73419&page=16 So the pop up would be exactly this: When you are done you can simply click OK at the bottom and the pop up goes away. Very simple, yet extremely handy and SUPER QUICK way to get all the information you would ever want for that sort of thing. I know that a lot of requests have been made for android and not a lot of people have responded in kind so I assume this might get buried. In the meanwhile I will rely on PeterPs kneeboard mod, and the printed out list I have of the airfields and their freaks. Let me know if anybody here is willing to give this a shot.

Operation Piercing Fury - MP Campaign
ralfidude replied to Ranger79's topic in User Created Missions General
Yeah on our play through we also noticed that there was a parachute flying down very slowly all the while the pilot was already on the ground communicating with us. I was a tad bit confused at first but then I understood how he did the trigger for this scenario, so I'm glad that the mission has him popping a flare or else I would have been circling the parachute drop location for hours without actually finding the "real" pilot haha. It's just one of those limitations of DCS is all. -
How does the MWS detect Maverick and ARM launches?
ralfidude replied to eFirehawk's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
In other words, it's a camera strapped on next to the RWR sensors, and it looks for smoke plumes. So I've been told that it can be so goddamn sensitive that everything sets it off. Literally everything. EVen you popping flares, some grandma cooking on a stove on the ground, etc and so forth. -
Still doesn't help, Lads, I'd hate to say it but I think ED will not look into this for a while or at all. If they do, great! But I'm not holding my breath... So do as Eno says, I remove my jammer pod, and replace it with 2 extra Aim-9s, and by God do you need those in the threat environment we are working under...
-
I leave mine in Semi-Auto, and manually switch it to Charlie program. This ENSURES I have the best countermeasures for the worst threat that might just appear out of nowhere, which are IR threats. Charlie dumps an insane amount of flares, plus chopping the throttle ensures a good 50% chance of the missile breaking lock. If you are heading into radar guided crap, then just swap to Bravo or Delta for a good mix, and that's that. Jammers don't work so you never worry about that in DCS.

I thought you could still exit out of a hangar that had it's doors closed.... Boy was I wrong. 4 minute start up just to get catapulted out of the hangar. Promptly Alt-F4'd after that. @ 3:56 if you are wondering ( )
-
I might use that button to clear master caution... It seems to go off a lot lately... :)
-
Ignore the first page fools, they are thinking FC3 I think. When you press master mode down till you are in air to air mode, then make sure your HUD is SOI, and then press DMS right to cycle through gun funnels. If you want to add different gun funnel profiles, then you have to look low left and flip your IFFCC switch to middle position, then go to AAS on the top or something like that, there you see a list of all the checked gun funnel profiles selected. CHange it to your hearts contempt.

You get lucky a lot in DCS so you can shoot down whatever. Like this little moment of joy I had: http://www.twitch.tv/ralfidude/c/3194921 And as it has been said SAMs are not realistic at all here. In BMS they make a good effort. I have had moments where they SAMs would play with us, one guy flips on his radar to spike us, then turns it off. After some time of flying in it's general location thinking I'm going to SEAD the bastard, another SAM close by turns his on and off. At this point I realize what is happening and I'm screaming at all my F-16 wingman to turn around, run and climb. Just as we do that, 4-5 SAM systems in a circle pattern all turn their radars on and start to fire at all of us at once. 2 casualities and I survive alone. Yep, it can be that kind of bastard of a game.
-
I can confirm this. No idea how to replicate it, but it happens on and off, can get quite annoying when I'm trying to navigate off the HUD. My wingman start yelling at me that I'm zig zagging everywhere. Quite humiliating. Gotta really have the TAD up to double check and/or HSI at this point.

Dude, mavericks all the way. But from what I remember, you fire off one AIM-9 and kill one frog, then go after the second frog in the same manner. Your second AIM 9 should up qued up right after firing the first so its no problem to rapidly shoot the other guy. BUT, if you are going to chase him down for a guns kill, that's a bit problematic, as he is faster than you. I think I remember being able to do this when I was starting out by simply getting in close behind them. It's pointless to engage from far away. Really, it is. So get closer, like stupid close.

[DCS World: ATC] Female Voice for ATCs
ralfidude replied to Devrim's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I'm just used to being able to do that in 4 minutes or less... sorry. -
On 2:06 you didnt press TMS up to set new SPI. That's what happened I think. So when you did china for long it went to the last known SPI, that being the last place you shot at. It's a common issue, it still happens to me when I think I held down the TMS up long enough to set a SPI but in fact I hadn't and my maverick goes totally fubar. At least that's what it looks like what happened.

different system. You can have the TGP on the left, and the maverick on the right MFD running at the same time. They don't work dependent on each other.

[DCS World: ATC] Female Voice for ATCs
ralfidude replied to Devrim's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
can anybody post a youtube preview of it? I dont want to spend too much time installing it to see if i like it type of thing, if you know what I mean. -
I don't think so. I tested it out with the SAM units on easy and expert and they don't seem to differ in the range they fire at. So they will shoot at you well in their range circle to "try" and keep you in their NEZ (No Escape Zone), except the long range SAMs that will fire at you rather far far away. The higher you are with those long range SAMs, they will shoot at you even further away. So far away in fact that your MWS won't even pick up the launch. It's very effective too. You are just flying along at 15K or higher, and all of the sudden just BOOM! You implode.

There is no delay between spotting you, locking you up and firing on you with ECM on with both the A-10C and the SU-25T with and without jammer pods. That right there is the silver lining, and what we are talking about here. We are not talking about many planes flying en masse, and what the SAMs behaviour is like with many targets. We are talking about what it should do for you, even as a single unit against a SAM, and yes, I know about the SAMs burning through your ECM just as an aircraft can burn through ECM of a hostile aircraft. But with absolutely 0 change in any behavior UP TO THE LAUNCH of a SAM on you, it is not effective at all and defeats it's purpose. What happens AFTER the launch is a bit of a mystery and is too hard to test to tell you conclusively, but from an article on a guy who worked for Ratheon on the jammer pods what he COULD say is that after the missile is launched the jammer changes to a DEFENSIVE mode, while before launch it jams it offensively (In this mode the jammers are supposed to block the whole range band for the SAM and LOWER THE EFFECTIVE RANGE ON THE SAM, however the SAM WILL burn through at some distance from target and engage<- this does not happen in DCS in either the A-10 nor the SU-25T). It is supposed to cause "An acceptable miss range" by altering the missile flight dynamics on the inbound missile. It will still come after you and track you (the jammer will not break lock but it can on some systems), but it should provide enough jamming (At least for the older SAM systems that we deal with in DCS) to make it miss provided you use chaff and acceptable maneuvering. Beyond that, he couldn't say more except that the jammer pod for the A-10 has been extremely successful (not exactly what we are seeing in DCS, not that I blame them, this stuff is super secret). So while I'l take your word on what happens after the missile is already airborne Expert, what happens before launch is not modeled, and this is where the problem lies in.
-
I went with what the ED testers have told me. It's not modeled. I take that stupid paperweight off, and replace it with extra AA missiles instead. I don't have too much information about the jammer types, but it is supposed to jam different types of SAMS, the less modern and more modern types, higher and lower, etc and so forth. IRL it actually should be able to handle multiple different SAM systems at the same time, etc and so forth, but none of this is applicable to DCS. The way the AI work currently in DCS is FUBAR, and this has been also under fire, and something to be worked on in the new engine. This ties in to how the SAMs work and how they behave. In anycase, currently there is no good reason to have ECM unless you want to jam air targets, in which case, go right on ahead. But having that thing on will hurt you more than not having it at all.
-
The only thing I will disagree with you eXPeRT is ECM. It has been countlessly explained before, ECM is not modeled against SAMS in DCS currently, not realistically, or even at all to be honest. They hope to implement electronic warfare sometime in the future, but not on this engine it seems. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=100247

Don't bother with ECM.
