TIR Question...thinking about buying
Succellus replied to cichlidfan's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yep track ir is a blast. I tund it for me in minimum time. The only thing its that until you get at ease with it you tend to tense your neck, more of fear of screwing than anything. Just set the dead zone the various progress points (very easy) and your set. -
Head tracking device. I use Track IR.

all this nuke talk is nice, but to be eficient agaisnt an agile fighter it remains to be seen if it does something else than pure EMP wave damage, which by the way will have the same effect for anyone around which i don t know if its usefull pos engagement (furball) unless you got reserve and don t care for your troops, which can serioulsy affect morale, unless they are brainwashed or cloned whith zombie mindset. Also, if we get energy shield into account (realisticly or not) it seem a poor solution, unless its a mere vulgar display of power designed to fatigue the shield generators of larger ships and would be an even poorest solution if a C-RAM or PHALANX like defensive device are present on the defensive side. So for sake matters lets the damn reality fluctuate away a little and try to find fun solution for space combat. Any actuall reality of today os probably a failure in the far future, and isn t the point anyway.

Right on spot... furthermore, you can put the speed you want, it its outmanoeuvered and miss its = zip. If you put a way to produce an area of damage, you increase the efectiveness of the missile.

1) Yeah so why waste energy just pass and mine the place. Unless you want a moving mine. But missiles ain t made for mining aren they ? Or they would be called mines, wouldn t they ? 2) Biological scan would be the scan of a lifeform and the track this signature leaves, you should see more sci-fi movies and read more books maybe. It would be better in the way that once locked in that signature it wouldn t let go of it. IR in space can be burned out by a star. Algorith can solve this, but in the beginning IR missiles were blinded by the sun and shaffs works in the same principle, try to blind or distract the missile time enought so the plane can escape. 3) Yes like a million other thing we see on sci-fi that may not hold much today but will probably hold in the future, or are there just for fun. In general we re not refering to the extremely limited tech we hold grasp today when it comes to space travel. Imagination stil play a big deal in space games even if based on acquired knowledge and brought to fun levels. I don t want reality i want a more fun combat.

There s so many wrong concepts there issued from limitation of atmosphere knowledge. You probably aint able to zeroe your mind. 1º i was wrong, space isn t -160 c its -265+ c, so you really don t have to cool anything at all, because there s nothing known colder than that. And yes in space anything is stressed to come to the status quo, so -265+, or do you think spacesuits only bring and seal oxygen in a close circuit ? Nothing freeze, cause all is already at -265+ but for planets and stars. those usually are they re own heat source or help themselves (the same way the sun heat earth and others planets) 2º The missile doesn t START a zero, it already have the speed of the launcher, exactly as atmospheric release, so it only need to fill the gap, and exactly as terran principle, the restriction of "maneouvrability" of the target is exactly the same as the restriction of "manoeuverability" of the missile. It works both way. 3º Nor missile would. Satellites are bound to relevant gravitational fields, the rest ain t 9your ship and the missile) unless both pass near a body strong enought to alter course. 4º Killing power. The same way it explode here on hearth, it can explode on space, if not by encapsulating oxygen and combustible to promote and acceleration, by the same way engine works but with an shork time powerfull effect able to send projectiles do pierce shield and hull. Again, equity of technology solve the gap. There will no aditional damage due to atmospheric friction to reap the hull apart. But this could be enought to damage sensors, engines, life support module etc...giving an edge over opponent. Or it can be only a one time directioned burst of energy designed only to bring a powerfull shot near the target....whatever, just think out of the box. Missiles arent bullets, they don t have to RAM into the plane to do damage. 5º In space sim games, technology of propulsion ain t based on combustion. But on energy cells or generators if the ship has its own generator. By analogy the same will be applyed to missiles. So there s an equity of technology exactly as today.

Its getting awesome PCalvert, to rotate the stick its only a line in the advanced programing... i ll try to find it in the forum. There must be some in SimHQ as it was imported from there.

Well for IR Missile, you don t need to cool anything its already -160. So the problem remain the acquirance of target (detect heat) and a software powerfull enought to diferenciate a star (close) from a spaceship heat. There s also that heat itself is a poor parameter another heat source can enter in the way and the missile can track the wrong target. As for using missiles as mines i don t think it a wise tactic, mercantile and transportation ships may not like to be blown off because they didn t had a transponder telling the mine not to blow off. Its also a migthy dangerous wild weadel as the missile won t stop and you never know what it can hit some zillons kilometers away....better blow it off if tracking fails, or propulsion run out. As for fuel, it only need a start as vaccuem will not bleed speed and the rest of the propulsion reserve can be used on thrust vectoring. But for tracking i can think of a zillion better means. biological scan, Energy shield tracking, Energy signature, transponder of lack of it, comunication frequency, and so on. But hell even a primitive fire and track having to track the target on the HUD reticle (like older missile) or HMD would be fun, especially with track IR. BTW is it only me or its damn hard to diferenciate Lower case from Higher case in the registration code adopted in the X-Rebirth forum.... Totally unable to insert the correct code cause i quite fail diferenciating those.

Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Throttle Faulty
Succellus replied to Dodgeza's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My with importation taxes and transport costed around that, 1100 USD. I had not an issue yet, but if i have a bricking, TM will exchange it and reimbuses costs. It ll suck to stay without throttle for some time, but i prefer a delay than have a sucky controller. -
The likelyhod of a new Star Wars space sim tends toward zero while George Lucas is Alive.

As anything in our Hobbyjob, you buy it and you have to mess with curves, deadzones and whatnot. That when not heavily addicted people don t build it from scrath. I ve not the gut to do such yet, i m sure i would end up with something truly AFU. They work fine, so far my chair swivel too but adjusting pressure, curve and whanot they are fine. There s even people opening them up like a fish to remove the detent. Im very satisfyed really. There s better but you ll have to pay at least double, and unless you have a problem of money surpluss (in that case please contact me) they are worth it.

I don t know, maybe not enught eat produced by engines since those aren t burn oriented, or extremely fast heat dispersion on the vacuum ? OTOH there s the heat generated to keep the pilot warmed so he can survive in a non enclosed suit. You could have a missile locked on biologic lifeform signature. Who knows
-
I couldn t disagree more: Well if missiles can t work in space, how the hell can the spaceship work ? Its exactly the same theory and same procedure. How can you ship not waste power in combat and you end up without energy ? Same apply to missiles. obviously IR wouldn t work, but the engine leave some signature , without counting Radar, eletroptical, scan link, laser grid, datalink and the whatnot futuristic gizmo can have. Damn!! iT could be fire and forget, fire and follow (just maintain the ennemy ship in the aiming reticle), "ballistic" etc You could also think dozen of other stuff that could enhance the gameplay, so it doesn t feel so much Il2 ish. EMP blast, defensive mine spread, rear oriented defensive missile, So much oportunities and so few imagination by the designers....its a bit sad. I don t care much about MP, there s plenty of them between EVE and its copy paste. If you want MP try Evochron Mercenaries Online. Same base as X-rebirth but it have more features. Its not MMO, but you can get a small group of buddies to fly toghether online.

A-20 ? Is it the naval version of the A-10 ? With folding wings ? :D Taking of ? I think not even with a sky jump...
-
Well its not practical at all i tried it and it gave me an: Cease and desist.... So i bought the saitek pro combat rudder.
-
Yep, lawndart, without this you get a problem with games that doesn t accept multiples USB controler. I m still asking myself what it would have costed to TM to put a USB plug in the warthog set.

A few questions about TM Warthog
Succellus replied to Flacracker's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
All of the above's -
400 USD on rudders ? your kidding right they are more expansive than the German ones, and look way less quality.
-
Will be steam....not steam yet.

You mean you need french translation...if this is it here it goes: prés de St. Pol, Aout, 1917, nez (not sure if nez apply for aviation) rouge et coeurs rouge sur le fuselage et le dessus des ailes supérieures. Its so rare i write in french now, that it feel strange.
-
Simped is awesoe but pricey... especially if you have to import it.
-
Don t forget to rotate the stick for easyer handling. So far its looking awesome. The question i have is with the screen you will put as "cocpit". What do you plan to do ? Projection ? Big screen outside ? tree small screens inside cockpit ?

You do not need pedals to keep the hog on the tarmac center during take off runs, you just need to use dual throttle for what they are for, diferencial thrust. When i had no pedals thats what i used to compensate drifting. I have the saitek combat pro rudder, they aren t near the warthog quality but they fit the job, i ubderstand plainly when someone say they arent realistic. On the other hand they fit the job and are quite confortable as long you tweak the toe break axis, i ve let only the last 20% working so i could rest my bare feets on them without triggering the brakes. But i ve seem someone remove the detent on internet from a link posted somewhere in some of the other rudders threads. Right now, for the price they are, it the better bet. I dont like CH they are too near each others as if designed for childs. Freaking uncomfy. BUT... the best pedals i ever experienced are the TM RCS retrofitted by cubby with hall sensor and toe brakes. Unfortunatly they are out of production and your only chance is E-bay. Also they are gameport, perfect for cougar, but not really fitting for Warthog. Cubby was thinkering to transform them with USB, i don t know if he had any success yet.

It sicken me to see this, i m green of envy :) Lucky guy. I suppose you had to seek a lot to find those, the one i droll the most is the warning panel. Best wishes on your building:thumbup:, i hope you ll send pictures of it assembled when you finish it, so we poor mortals can drool.
