Hello Today i installed a new EVGA GTX 670 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-195-EA) into my computer replacing my old EVGA GTX 580. With my old 580 i used Nvidia inspector to set the vertical sync to 1/2 refresh which kept the FPS at a stable 30 in nearly all situations. The problem that im having with the 670 is that when i select the 1/2 refresh rate option all is well until i turn the shkval on and then i get a lot of what i call Vsync stutter when in the cockpit view. The FPS remains at 30 and the GPU usage is only about 60% (temps 52DegC) so the card is not really being pushed hard but for me the sim becomes unplayable. If i don't use Nvidia Inspector and use the in game Vsync setting then i get very smooth frames at a constant 60 FPS, until for whatever reason the FPS drops below 60 then i'm getting the Vsync stutter again. I've tried Rise of Flight and BMS and getting good results with those titles, i'm getting good results with DCS too, but i just can't eliminate the Vsync stutter like i could with the 580 by using the 1/2 refresh rate. I've tried many combinations of settings and a couple of different driver versions (currently using 310.9) but nothing is working ... I'm half tempted to re-install my 580 and RMA the 670 even though there's nothing wrong with the card. So any advice on what settings your using for your 670/680 or suggestions on things to try would be much appreciated as i'm running out of ideas !!... Regards Gunner....

Possibly thinking about buying a 680 to replace my 580, the benchmarks that i have seen suggest that it might be a worthwhile upgrade ????. However i'm intrigued by the fact that some of you guys have said that SLI is working for Nvidia in DCS. Would it be possible to SLI my 580 with a new 680 ?, never tried SLI before so i don't have any experience of it. My 580 is a good card and works well so in some ways i'm a little reluctant to retire it just yet...

Thrustmaster Warthog Extension
Gunnergolly replied to zahry's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've just spent an hour phoning around and eventually found out that the package was being held at the Rotherham distribution center awaiting payment of import tax....... except nobody told me that!!!!! I've settled up with them now so hopefully i will receive my extension tomorrow . Regards Gunner... -
Thrustmaster Warthog Extension
Gunnergolly replied to zahry's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hello Just a question for any UK customers:- How long was your extension "Held for clearance" once it had arrived in the UK ??, mine has been held up for four days now. P.S... Thanks zahry for the quick posting and turnaround once i had ordered.... but it seems like the UK customs are dragging their feet somewhat !!!... Regards... -
Yeah it's expensive, UK price with shipping and VAT added on top would come to £500 ($795) !!!. Maybe one day, however in the meantime i've ordered a replacement pressure ring...
-
No it's the thin anti buffer disk that fits on the underside of the pressure plate, i already have the part sourced from Thrustmaster (SPARE PART NUMBER: 201301150023). In the meantime i've repositioned the disk so i'll hopefully get a little extra time out of it until it's replacment arrives However i'm really looking for a long term alternative solution and the FSSB R3 could be it, unfortunately it's not a cheap option either. However i like ROF and play the KA-50 most of the time, i've been digging around and a lot of people dont like the force sensing stick's for WW1 and WW2 style flight sims..... On the other hand the fly by wire BMS people love them, personally i don't like the standard Warthog whilst playing BMS... I'll just have to think about it find out for myself if i decide to make the FSSB R3 financial plunge :smilewink:.................... and work some overtime to pay for it:(
-
I might have to look into the R3, after two years of use my Warthog centering and feel is awful now (striped it down and found out that the pressure ring is perishing). I know the FSSB R3 MOD will probably work (feel) great with the the DCS fixed wings, but im curious as to how it will work with the DCS KA-50 trimming. I also play ROF and i think using something like the FSSB for a first world war sim would feel really weird. I'm wondering how the FSSB R3's feel will translate to non fast mover aircraft and helicopters ?. The Warthog is a good stick but in many ways i dislike using the heavy centering(and my now sloppy) Warthog with the fast jets...... The A-10C feels ok with the standard Warthog but the BMS F-16 would definitely be improved with the FSSB mod..... trouble is i fly a lot of KA-50. Hopefully it's just a case of retraining muscle memory... but it would be nice to eliminate the Warthog's centering problems once and for all

DCS World + Windows 8: Worked fine
Gunnergolly replied to ARM505's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Thinking about going to Windows 8 and have a couple of questions:- 1) How much disk space is required ?, looking at the system requirements for the Win8 updator it states that 20GB is required. I'm guessing this is the total hard drive space required for a complete install and not another 20GB of Win8 files installed on top of my current Win7 installation ???..... (I have currently have Win7 installed on a 60GB SSD and only have about 20 GB left). http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msuk/en_GB/pdp/productID.257641900 2) If i download and purchase the Win 8 upgrade from the above site, can you do a clean install of Win 8 using that downloaded file alone ?. Initially i will just upgrade my current Win7 install and see how it goes, however if i like it, then i would prefer to do a "clean" install of Win8 onto my system. Thanks..... -
Hello lokitexas. Haven't had time to test the Gauntlet mission but have just played the "Battle" mission and recorded the entire mission FPS (using the settings from my previous post) using FRAPS..... results make painful playing :(. MAX 30 (Capped value) AVG 25.2 MIN 6 !!!! I totally agree with you that there is still much optimization to be done within DCS world. Generally speaking lack of FPS is not really a problem for me too within the current build of World, but as we all know there are some major FPS killers which are spoiling the overall playing experience. I used to cap my FPS at 40 and then use the in-game V-Sync but when flying low and fast i noticed what i now call V-sync stutter. It really used to annoy me as my eyes are very sensitive to any screen tearing and micro stutters so i have to use V-Sync and i could never eliminate that stuttering. The settings that i suggested unfortunately won't help us with those FPS killers but they have now given me a "silky" smooth playing experience when flying low and fast whilst running at a relatively low capped FPS. Anyway when i have time i will give the "Gauntlet" mission a go, but i expect more painful playing with that one too !!!. Regards Gunner... i5 2600k@4.6Ghz, 8Gb Corsair RAM, Vertex SSD, EVGA 580GTX.

I can't help you with your FPS drops, i haven't played the Black Shark campaigns but we have similar spec machines and i would probably experience similar results to what your having. I have always suffered from annoying little micro-stutters when flying fast and close to the ground, Eventually after alot of searching and experimentation i eventually put it down to using the in game Vsync and "capping" my FPS at 40. However i have found that if i disable the in game V-sync, cap my FPS at 30 and then set the refresh to 1/2 refresh rate using Nvidia Inspector then the results are that my V-sync stutters totally disappear (Im using a 60Hz monitor). If you try this (it's worth a try !!!) make sure that when you create the Nvidia inspector profile you use the DCS.exe and not the launcher.exe to activate the profile. E:\DCS World\bin\DCS.exe This has made a massive difference to my game play and certainly worth trying..... i found that i can achieve much smoother game play with less FPS with these settings !!!... ... and Nvidia Inspector is a gem of a program !!!.. Regards Gunner....

Fine bunch of chaps.... i wonder how many of them are still alive ???... Yeah i think a "DShK technical" would be an excellent addition...

Halios requires that Windows Aero is turned on, otherwise you will experience a significant FPS hit... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71083&highlight=aero+desktop+helios Just posting to remind you to check your aero setting on the off chance that you have not already enabled it....

Thanks for the explanation, when this card is being worked hard and hits that 90DegC threshold you certainly know about it !!!!... the fan noise that's generated is unnerving, but apparently it's normal behavior for this model of card... Anyway better get back on topic now :).... Regards...

Running a EVGA GTX580 (Factory overclocked) with the 306.23 driver i have retried your modified "High.lua" file in a simple night mission. Displaying the TGP and MAV screens on each of the MFD's at the same time, i'm happy to say that i'm not experiencing any slowdown or loss of FPS :). So i will keep your modified file and just see how it goes. P.s...(Off topic) I know this is not related to the NVG Mod, but i've noticed the biggest stress on my GFX card listening to the speed that the cooling fan is running inorder to keep the temps within limits is the green cockpit floodlighting. If i have the lighting turned up high then my GFX card seems to get a really good workout !!!...
-
I know the feeling !!!, i must have been seeing the improvement only because i'd wanted to see an improvment ???. I will try again with your modified file instead of the two originals !!!
-
Just tried your new "High.lua" in a 10 minute night flight flying at low and high altitudes, looking in all directions with the goggles turned on and off. Experienced no FPS drop, or any noticeable "additional" loading on my GFX card using it's performance log's... Works well and looking good. Regards...

If you purchase the discounted standalone version from Steam you'll still need to download DCS world and also the A-10C module from this site. Hopefully after you have installed both the DCS World program and it's relevant A-10C module it will recognize that you already have a Steam version of the game installed on your computer and your A-10C module will then activate ok within World. Once the module has been activated you might as well delete the Steam version from your hard drive (if that's possible) in order to save on hard disk space, otherwise that's 4 or 5Gb sat there doing nothing. So just to clarify, the version that you will buy from Steam will most probably be standalone version V.111, other then playing it as a standalone version it's only other use would be to activate it's relevant DCS World module. You cannot obtain DCS World or any of it's modules from Steam. Personally i'd rather not rely on Steam and would always go for the most direct route possible. Regards... EDIT..... From what Winz and lokitexas have both posted it looks like you'll have no problems using the Steam version to activate it's relevant World module................. and buying at a 50% discount makes sense !!!.....
-
I believe the version that Steam is selling is only the standalone version, i could be wrong but i don't think you can download DCS World from steam ???. Personally i would advise your friends to download DCS World from this site and then purchase the modules they want directly from here too. It's easier and will keep things simpler regarding activation's/updates, especially now that DCS World now has an auto updater.. Regards...
-
Have just installed this mod... Excellent work PeterP.... you clever bugger !!! Really adds proper perception to night flying and would advise anybody and everybody who reads this to go ahead and install this NVG mod into their respective World installs. In my honest opinion ED should take note of this mod and include it as standard () ..... Regards Gunner....

Black Shark FPS Issues after latest patch.
Gunnergolly replied to Gunnergolly's topic in Game Performance
Yeah that's exactly what i'm getting after about 10 seconds of play, another lad on here has tried the "Gauntlet" mission and he is also having FPS when issues flying towards the first waypoint. Thankyou for testing and posting your result... -
Black Shark FPS Issues after latest patch.
Gunnergolly replied to Gunnergolly's topic in Game Performance
No it's a single player mission, you'll find it in KA-50 mission folder after you have selected the mission option from the main GUI screen.... Thanks... -
Thanks -MOP- Good (bad ???) to know that it's not just my machine that's struggling, looks to me that ED have concentrated their efforts on the A-10 last week which for me is working really well. Hopefully they will concentrate their efforts on further optimisation because DCS World certainly needs it, especially the explosion and smoke effects. Anybody else tried the "Battle" and "Gauntlet" missions and what do you think ???. Regards...

Black Shark FPS Issues after latest patch.
Gunnergolly replied to Gunnergolly's topic in Game Performance
Thanks for the suggestion lokitexas. I've always used the application controlled setting for DCS in my Nvidia CP because as you already know it just works better. I can only assume that BS2 for everybody else is working really well judging from the lack of response. However i don't believe that is the case as my machine is stable and probably about as fast and efficient as current hardware allows (for the price). I have played the "Battle" mission many times and never before have i experienced 8 FPS, so i know it's not the amount of AI activity that's causing the problem. It seems to me that my machine is being brought to it's knees by the current explosions and smoke within DCS World. So what i'm really wanting to know is.......... has anybody else tried playing the BS2 "Battle" mission and what results are you having ?... Regards...
