SSD Drive (Worth the expense?)
Gunnergolly replied to trek's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you decide to go for an OCZ SSD make sure that you install the latest firmware from the OCZ firmware update page BEFORE YOU INSTALL YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM:- http://www.ocztechnology.com/ssd_tools/ You cannot update the SSD firmware once the operating system has been installed on that drive. I initially had a lot of cold start problems with my OCZ drives (Agility & Vertex), however once i updated my motherboard drivers (ASUS P8P67) and updated the SSD firmware drivers........my computer boots up first time every time now....:)... SSD......Highly recommended !!!!... -
Hello I think the HD7970 is due to be released over here in the UK very soon and will be priced in the region of around 470 pounds, (700 Dollars AUS).........rather alot of money !!!!... As i'm in no hurry i think i will just hang on and see how the release of this new card effects the Nvidia/ATI pricings. Spikenet.....How do you manage to run a dual monitor setup in fullscreen ?, are you using SoftTH ?. Thanks...

Hello Thinking about replacing my ATI 5870 with an Nvidia 580, have done some searching through the forums and came across this thread regarding relative performances:- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=63270&highlight=ati&page=2 The results of the above comparison tests (post 19) seem like it's a worth while upgrade. I run a dual monitor setup with a total resolution of 1920X2130 (22" monitor placed on top of a 23" monitor). Just have a couple of questions:- I was just wondering would there be any benefit to buying a 3Gb version of the Nvidia 580 or would the 1.5Gb run ok for this resolution ?. I run in windowed mode due to my dual monitor setup, are the Nvidia cards able to run in windowed mode ok ???.....have always used ATI cards... I'm only interested in a single GPU card, i've heard thet the HD 7970 is due for release.......maybe i should just wait for now ???... Thanks for any advice... Cheers Gunner...

Hello PeterP Edit: Thankyou for your reply.....your assumption was very correct !!! :):). I don't have access to my computer at the moment as i'm spending my new year on an oil rig :(...So i'll have to wait another four days before i get home to try out your custom PNG.......i'll let you know how it works out... Thanks again for your help peterP and would like to wish yourself, your family and all the rest of you guy's out there a happy new year..... Cheers Gunner.....

Hello I'm using a dual screen setup with a 22" monitor (1680X1050) placed on top of a 23" monitor (1920X1080) that is displaying capt loz's halios profile. I'd be interested in using this mod but i'm experiencing the same stretching issue as Madtommy initially had.....(however i have configured my monitors vertically instead of horizontally and have a combine resolution of 1920X2130). I have the small NVG bezel working ok, but the NVG image is being stretched across my two monitors. Please could somebody help me create a custom Focus.PNG image for my setup. I have tried to use SoftTH.....it works ok until a ground unit launches a missile against me and then the game freezes and put's me back to the main splash screen ???. However windowed mode works well for me. Appreciate any help. Thanks Gunner...

Yup....................i understand now !!!. It's the first time that i have ever loaded those gun pods on pylons 1&4 which is what threw me. Normally i only use a Vikhr/rocket load so i've never had to use the UGMB switch as the rockets have already been "dialled" in correctly... I must read that manual and my own manual "quotations" more thoroughly in the future !!!...... Thanks......
-
Thanks for setting me straight.. Just had a quick read of the manual and it says:- In theory since i only had the one type of rocket loaded, then the switch should have already been pre-set. This is obviously no longer the case now in BS2. Thanks again for the replies.. Cheers.....Gunner

Hello When you have a moment please take a look at my attached track and tell me what i'm doing wrong. My rockets are falling way short of my intended target, the fixed cannon pods are fine. Cheers Gunner.... Rocket Attack What's going wrong.trk

Hello Just made a simple mission so that i could experiment with finding and shooting targets at night. At the moment i find it works best if i take a full load of illumination rockets and i illuminate/designate the targets, whilst ordering my wingmen to do the shooting.......very effective !!!.. I think it would be great if one day ED would provide an additional command in the radio menu so that wingman could also be ordered to illuminate a designated area. I think it should work along these lines..... 1 )I would designate an area and then order my wingman to illuminate that area. 2) He would then fly off and put approx 7km distance between him and the designated area. 3) He would then fire off a pair of illumination rockets every 30 seconds to provide continuous illumination. 4) In the meantime myself and the rest of my flight would start picking off targets. Could make for some very interesting mission scenarios with a little imagination. Just a suggestion ED  Regards Gunner...

As close as I can get it! What do you think??
Gunnergolly replied to Loz's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thankyou Loz..... -
Im exporting to a second monitor Halios display, "256 resolution" looks fine, not the prettiest display but workable The reworking of the A-10C TGP display with the latest patch looks really good since i use WHOT most of the time and only using a Res of 256 is not really an issue......hopefully easier on my rig's resources too.. Thanks for posting the pictures Boberro and yeah i came across that daft utube clip of the bog eyed Black shark pilot whilst searching for Shkval footage !!.. 213 if you press RCTL+num pad 0 and then press num pad 2 this will zoom in to the Shkval/Abris display. Press RCTL+num pad 0 to return to normal cockpit view. Cheers
-
Hello I was wondering what resolution do you guys use for the Shkval. I'm using 256 and i think it's ok. The reason i'm asking is because i have been searching for "Shkval footage" on utube as i'm curious about the real life video quality of this system. In your opinon what would be the most realistic resolution setting that i should use as i can't seem to find any "Shkval" footage....other then what has been produced by DCS BS. Cheers...

RedX, appreciate your posting on how you figured out how to disable the "in cockpit" Abris/Shkval displays, hopefully might help free up some resources. Until recently i haven't played BS in ages, I've noticed that my Halios EKRAN digital display is not displaying information correctly. I think there is a fix for this which involves modifying some .Lua script somewhere. I'll search the Halios forums when i have time. Thanks again...
-
Anybody know how i can disable the Shkval display within the cockpit. The reason i ask is that im exporting it onto my second monitor with is a running a Halios profile and therefore don't use the "cockpit" shkval.......hoping to gain a few FPS... I've disabled my MFCD's within the A-10C by modifying the MFCD_init.lua file by disabling the render_purpose.General line. I'm guessing that it's something to do with the SHKVAL_init.lua file located here but can't seem to figure it out..... E:\DCS Black Shark 2\Scripts\Aircrafts\Ka-50\Cockpit\SHKVAL Cheers...

Initial impressions on Black shark 2 please
Gunnergolly replied to coolts's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Very happy overall with what i have seen so far. My wingman seems to behave himself better now when i issue commands and he tries his best not to get himself shot down. However i do have a couple of issues:- 1) I was shot down whilst hiding behind a very dense tree line by a tree proof missile !!!...... ---Not really a problem when flying the A-10C, however when flying the KA-50 low down this in my opinion becomes a major flaw within the game engine. 2) Another time when i was hit by a missile i never even realised it until a couple of minutes later when i lost my hydraulic pressure. ---It would be nice if they could include some kind of impact noise and an airframe shudder or something when you are hit by ordinance. However i'm happy to say they have fixed the bug which caused the cockpit aspect to resize whenever you turned on the NVG's during night time when using a dual monitor setup. Well done DCS and BS2 is worth every penny.......Even my wingmen approve as i'm getting a lot more "affirms" now when i issue them orders !!!.. Regards Gunner.... -
How do you find BS2 Performance ?.
Gunnergolly replied to Gunnergolly's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Haven't play BS1 in ages but with my above setup i used to easily get FPS consistently in the 60's with about a 5FPS drop when i turned on the Shkval. I used to have a high res scenery pack installed, but i capped the FPS at 40 and had smooth game play. I have been experimenting with BS2 and have found that "shadows" on high loads up my GPU (windowed mode). I have reduced them to medium and i am getting FPS in the region of about 60 and between 56/52 when the Shkval is turned. I've reduce the visibility setting down to medium and capped my FPS at 32, my GPU is running at approx 68-75% when playing quick generated missions. Will keep on trying different settings when i have the time, flying around cities sometimes drops my FPS down into the high twenties tho. Regards... -
Hello all. I use a dual monitor setup along with Halios with a combined resolution of 1920X2130. I was just wondering how do you find the overall performance of BS2 when compared with the A-10C. With the above setup and resolution when playing A-10C i easily get 60FPS (i cap it at 40 tho) and it's pretty stable at that. However in BS2 im getting a maximum FPS of 40ish but it often drops down into the low 20's with a bit of action. I haven't had to much time to experiment with the settings yet to try and find the bottle neck. I was wondering have you noticed a difference in performance....even if you are only using a single monitor setup ?... For you information i have:- i5 2500k@4.7MHz. 8Gb RAM. ATI 5870 1Gb. OCZ Vertex 3 SSD. Regards Gunner....

Have been playing around with the SPAAA "Gepard" and i've noticed that i'm not receiving a threat indication on my RWR, either from the search or tracking radar. However when it engage's me i am receiving a Laser indication on my RWR. Is this how it supposed to react, or is the Search/Tracking radar broken on this vehicle ?...

[How To] Export ALL Indicators like MFCD via ViewPorts
Gunnergolly replied to icemaker's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Most obvious differences in our monitor setup files is that your MFD's, Digi clock and RWR sizings are as they should be.....square.. In order to make my MFD exports fit my "square" MFD bezels within my Halios profile i had to make them 325X380 ???.... The RWR was an absolute nightmare to "scale up" correctly, i thought that i had it right at 222X222 until i was playing and i beamed a threat. I eventually settled at 194X222, this gave me the correct indication on my Halios RWR when compared against the "cockpit" RWR. Needless to say that i have made 3 back ups of these files and stored them in 3 different locations as it took me about 7 hours to get them to work and display in the correct locations on my screen. I think your right about most of us having to adjust our exports individually, by posting our files hopefully they'll give people a good head start... Regards... -

Hello Is anyone aware of an FC 2 equivalent to the default BS head moment off fix. http://www.lockonfiles.com/index.php/files/file/1468-default-head-movement-off/ Have had a look around myself but can't seem to see anything. Thanks.

Would be nice to have the SU-25 and SU-25T imported into the DCS world ??.. Some people might argue that these two aircraft in their current FC level of modelling simply just do not belong in the high fedelity DCS world. Personally i'd pay again for these two aircraft to be included, simply because their amazing and their basic avionics/flaws (like the KA-50) is what makes them so interesting to fly and fight. [How To] Export ALL Indicators like MFCD via ViewPorts
Gunnergolly replied to icemaker's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Good to see that you have made some progress... I understand your co-ordinates now, I should have read your signature properly !!!... Yeah the scaling has been totally messed up and i had to spend a long time manually adjusting and resizing the exported indicators to fit the profile that i'm using. Trouble that i'm having now is that V1.09 is really loading up video card (ATI 5870) and causing me problems. V1.08 use to run really smooth, i might start a thread asking other "windowed mode" multi monitor ATI users how their getting on with V1.09. How does your Nvidia GTX 580 handle all those monitors performance wise ?... Regards Gunner... -
[How To] Export ALL Indicators like MFCD via ViewPorts
Gunnergolly replied to icemaker's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Hello Scooternutz Please find attached my working init.lua files. I've also included my option and monitor config file so that you can have a look at my co-ordinates. I have a dual screen setup with a 1680X1050 mounted on top of a 1920X1080 touchscreen, i'm using "Captain Loz's" profile. The two MFD's worked right away with V1.09 so they just needed resizing and moving to the correct co-ordinates. AN_ALR69V_init.lua CMSC_init.lua CMSP_init.lua DIGIT_CLK_init.lua freq_status_init.lua Loz Halios Profile.lua options.lua preset_channel_init.lua repeater_init.lua Im guessing that your using (x3) 1680x1050 monitors to give you that resolution. Im not an expert with multimonitors and i know that you been using "multi" successfully for a while now, but i don't understand your "x" co-ordinates within your monitor config file. You have a max "x" resolution of 5040, however the placement of many of your indicators in the "x" plane appear to be off screen. Your "y" co-ords look better Barrakoodas monitor config looks sensible. Anyway hope my files might help... Regards Gunner.....
