Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Dimebag1 replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
They could call it Cobra vs Fulcrum, like alien vs predator. As long as it didn't double the ETA I would like this, but I like the idea of single aircraft study sims, makes it seem more manageable with only one to learn. -
Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Dimebag1 replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I would prefer either f-16 or f-15, as I think an f/a-18 might restrict the potential kinds of missions, as much as I would love to get into the details of carrier ops. Additionally, I love the capabilities of the f-16, giving us a2a and a2g on the one platform, and it's just an all round attractive aircraft with a lovely looking cockpit, something about that aircraft that just knocks my socks off. Just wait till those falcon boys see a fully fledged DCS f-16 startup, they'll be coming in droves. -
That's your choice, some people go for ffb some dont. I know for me personally, with what this stick can do with ffb, atleast in fixed wing aircraft, like relieving stick pressure when trimming, stick shaking when approaching stalls, these two features justify the ffb for me, I wouldn't fly without them given the option. The quality of the ffb is dependent on the simulator developers. It's true that the stick has problems, r1 and r2 spiking which is a warranty job, and reversal bug, which is being looked at. For me I am willing to wait for the reversal fix, but then I'm alot more patient than most people.

Ok, here's a pertinent question then. Which aircraft is MOST LIKELY for next in line in the dcs series, knowing what we know about how it is selected. I know that it relies on receiving a military contract to model and simulate IN SERVICE military aircraft. Most likely it would also be to model an aircraft that has gone through a sizable and recent AVIONICS UPGRADE. Now that ED have been working with the USAF, they will likely chosen to do another aircraft, or maybe by the navy, due to the upcoming success of a-10c. So tell me people, which is most likely? -
Yeah, I'm very excited about this and am remaining optimistic about the fix, even if certain other users have become jaded, which is understandable for those who had it since it's release. I only recently purchased the g940 so I still have hope, even though I bought it knowing fully the problems it suffered from and just hoped they would be solved, and it seems this is the case, atleast for the reversal bug.

I'm not saying that, because i don. Have bs, I'm only going off post I've read about the progress of trimming in dcs bs. Some people claim that it works for them. Now trimming in fc1.12 works this way; when I trim the aircraft all forces are removed from the new stick position. There is still a small centre slop area for me, but much improved from the update.
-
Ok, well read on at your own risk because ignorance really is bliss. Firstly, go into the logitech profiler, then into the calibration section, of the throttles for instance. Now start slowly progressing the throttle forward 1% at a time. Aim to get 50% for instance. Now reverse direction of the throttle very slowly and try to get 49%; this is impossible, as you will see the input will pause even though you are moving the axis, until it finally moves about 3-4%, to about 47% aroundabout (amount varies person to person). So basically if you are aiming for a certain position and slightly pass it you can't reach it if you reverse the direction. This happends anywhere on ANY axis, including the stick and trim pots. This makes it very difficult to rapidly find a correct throttle percentage when formation flying, or if you are trying to precicely gun down a target, your nose will constantly porpise up and down trying to hit paydirt. Trimming works perfectly for me but I play fc1.12. Only 5% dead zone, and when I trim the aircraft the new stick position correctly responds to stick inputs, I have not noticed problems with the deadzone, but then maybe this is because it is so small. At any rate, a reversal bug fix would help the situation because this reduces the need for a deadzone.

As far as I know the trim problem has been fixed in dcs bs and the slop is now negligable thanks to the last firmware update. I am holding out for this as there is a good chance they will crack this one. Other users have created c++ programs to remove the reversal bug successfully in il2, so it is possible, now we need a universal fix and it is looking like this is it. If you choose not to wait for this that's your choice. I understand your view, but this looks hopeful.

I thought I would post this here, as I think all g940 users should be aware of this. The daunting 'Reversal bug' found on all axes of the g940 which basically makes the precision of the flight system useless by inducing a constant hunting for a desired input, has marred all it's users wanting precision from this setup, be it for precision gunning and bombing, or precision flying for formation purposes. http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PC-Gaming/G940-quot-reversal-bug-quot-is-it-a-hardware-or-software-problem/td-p/445318/page/3 Charlesb on the logitech forums has confirmed that they have pooled technicians from other projects to work on a potential firmware fix for the reversal bug. He remains cautiously optimistic that they will solve the issue, and they will release more info on how it is progressing when Charles hears. This is extremely good news for g940 users, as previously they have been rather silent on the issue, only once confirming the bugs existence and making no comment on the various reversal bug threads which have been around not long since it was released (over a year). I am also cautiously optimistic, as they probably wouldn't release this information unless they were fairly sure they could squash it.

Long Time Flight Simmer's Review of DCS: A10C
Dimebag1 replied to Greb's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
But he is previewing a product which has been released. If you reeeealy wanna be technical, it's a review of a beta preview of the final release. at any rate, good review, makes me wanna hit my wife up (no I'm not a wife beater, it's an expression) for a new computer that might have a chance of running this. Still on fc1.12 sadly, focusing on form flying. -
Is jetwash and aerodynamic interference modelled? Realistic canopy reflections? During blackouts it would be cool if the sound faded as well (not sure if this happends but it makes sense).

You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..
Dimebag1 replied to HAVOC131's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Lmfao :megalol: , that's the first time I've really stopped to think about how u go in the air. But how about a number 2, that would be difficult. No amount of special military issue bags could make that pleasant. -
I'm sure this has probably been mentioned, and after looking at a few bids of the a-10c beta I can't see any in cockpit self shadowing. Definately a feature which adds some realism. Also not sure if it's in there but scuff marks from tyres when landing would be cool. Interactive mission briefings would be interesting, your crew members sitting with you as the "leader" briefed everyone. Realistic gearing up like a ready room. Also sure it's been mentioned but more people on the ground, if I send a missile into a hangar it would be cool to watch people fleeing on the missile cam. In a campaign it would be cool to have a system failure every now and then and have to perform purely visual landings. Radio chatter would be cool, so it seems like your wingmen are real people. Then before combat you can order radio silence. Sure it's been mentioned, but random bird ingestions would be crazy. Also, a lightning strike in a storm would really keep you on your toes. Not sure if this is modelled but if you encounter a tailwind it would be cool to gain a few knots. If you crash an aircraft and eject, you should only be allowed to recover (not sure if you can in dcs?) if you are rescued. Warnings from hostiles when entering their airspace for certain missions. Realistic refuelling and rearming crews when trying to get back in the fight. Kills are indicated on aircraft with appropriate symbols.

Not sure but there are many apps that allow you to view PDF

The only reason you would need a demo is if you wanted to see if it works on your pc, otherwise, I think the videos and posts speak for themselves.

You think that's annoying, try it on an iPod touch!

How to fly A-10 without pedals, suggestions pls
Dimebag1 replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Maybe lean towards the side of the aircraft you want to yaw to? No wait that would make you roll, how about deploying some kind of wind catching device? In all seriousness, you can pick up a twist joystick dirt cheap. Otherwise, I have read of people modding race pedals into rudder pedals, so if you don't drive much.... -
Is there anyone who has tested the game who has a less than top of the line system, with maybe a dated video card? What is the performance like?

Ultimately it would be intended to be used in conjunction with a stereoscopic HMD (head mounted display) capable of 3d, which when coupled with head tracking and limb tracking, would combine to create an experience not dissimilar to that of a real pilot. The ability to move the head and limbs to enable one to see controls, switches or indicators which may be obscured, and the ability to perceive depth would offset most of the finnickyness of trying to find and activate a virtual control in 3d space. If you have a full scale cockpit to match the aircraft your flying this would obviously not be a problem. If you have difficulty activating controls with this setup I'm afraid there is probably not much hope for you flying a real plane, as the experience would be very similar. I know there is no way this feature will see the light of day until the gaming industry has fully embraced 3d as well as HMD's (the concept compared to a 3d display is far superior when used in 1st person games, now the hardware just needs to catch up). If we are concerned with improving realism and immersion, which as a flight sim enthusiast, most people will be, then you can't ignore the potential of such a feature, no matter fow finnicky. As far as the difficulty of animating the limbs, I don't think this would be a problem, as xbox has managed to mirror almost the exact movements of a virtual character with their kinect, and calibration would be an issue which would be resolved in the same way that coders of xbox have achieved their successful interface. Who knows, a feature like this could even spark the interest of the general gaming community who mostly play fps's, and bring the attention to flight simming that it has long deserved. This is as much a gimmick as trackir is a gimmick, a useful and functional addition that improves realism.
-
I would like to see a full and highly detailed model of the pilot, viewed from first person, so that when you look down you can see youself strapped in, arms and legs visible. Additionally I would like this feature extended to include support for tracking of the body, primarily the arms, and hands, which would interface with tracking systems such as the new kinect from xbox, or even an adapted trackir ( which could only feasibly track the hands). The usage of this limb tracking system would ideally allow a user to virtually interact with a clickable cockpit, which would dramatically increase the level of realism. Just an idea, but I think it would lead to amazing immersion and allow us to be freed from our keyboards.

If you are interested there is an app called idisplay that let's you use your ipod (I'm not sure if ipad is supported yet but it probably is) And display something like LOVP or BSVP on there. The only catch was the frame rate was a little slow, but they may fix that in an update. I can confirm this worked using both LOVP and BSVP on iPod touch.
