  1. Native mac support for dcs a-10c doesn't make sense; the DCS mantra — model everything to the most minute detail and allow, nay, force the user to know these systems and manipulate them towards a distant goal— is at odds with the mac mantra— simplify the user load and user interface to the point where a trained monkey could operate it. To put it simply, real mac users (those sad people who use only macs and refuse to even ms word on a pc) would refuse to even switch the battery switch on the warthog on, let alone go through a 5-10 minute startup procedure. H.A.W.X was made for these people who like to think the have control when really the autopilot switch is on. They were those kids who had a fake steering wheel in their parents car and actually believed they were in control. BTW, I think I have the right to make these mac jokes, I'm married to a mac person, so I never hear the end of how macs are supposedly better than pc's. I've even been forced to use one every now and then as I've had to put off getting a new pc for years to feed her mac habit.
  2. Excuse me, reported what? I hope your not trying to say I'm being inflammatory. Last time I checked it was ok to speak freely in a curteous manner, I have not abused anyone, only stated my opinion. Noone likes a tiddle tat. :P
  3. Just drop a thousand bucks and get a TDvisor, they have the highest resolution of any hmd, and the widest FOV, 3d stereoscopic, so you can judge distance of both distance to panels, and wingmen flying in formation (no more guessing if your drifting towards/away). Built in head tracking (I think), but a kinect would probably be better ,only problem is the simulation would need to animate your virtual hands/arms, so you could use hand-eye coordination to activate switches, buttons and knobs in your virtual cockpit. If you don't like having to find a switch in virtual space, then build a basic scale simpit, just so you can feel when your getting close to the controls. The benefit of this setup is that you get 360° immersion in the cockpit, which would greatly enhance immersion in dogfights where your constantly tracking the bandit all around your canopy. Instead of moving your head non proportionately to where the bandit would actually be, if he's on your 6 you move your entire body and look behind you. If he's zooming above you, just look up. This kind of Immersion is the final frontier for realism, next to actual physical movement of a pit itself. Many are skeptical of this idea, so while I'm enjoying my ultra realistic aircraft experience they can sit in front of their monitors moving their heads while trying to look out of the corner of their eyes to see where that bandit is. Meanwhile, I just forgot where I was and actually started to believe I really was engaging in a high g dogfight until my heart-rate calmed down and the sweat and swearing cleared from the air. I know which experience I want.
  4. Maybe we can get Julian Assange to ask one of his sources to 'intercept' the bank statements from the USAF, and look for any payments to ED. E.g. $10,000,000 --------------- ED, f-15e simulator. $100,000,000,000 --------- Air force running costs $1,000,000 ----------------- Toilet paper $50,000,000 --------------- Dry cleaning and starching. $30,000,000 --------------- Runway scraper wages
  5. Have you tried setting your g940 bs profile to persistent? I've had similar issues in fc2 and this seemed to help.
  6. Hi peeps, just letting all g940 users know a new firmware update has been released to the public which virtually eliminates the reversal bug on the stick x y axes only, it does not fix the throttle, pedals or rotaries. You can download it here: http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PC-Gaming/G940-firmware-1-42-is-now-available/td-p/542496 please make sure to follow the instructions that charlesb has included on the forum post at logitech to save yourself from heart attacks. Now this is hopefully the first step towards a fully functional g940, next step hopefully be to fix the other axes. If you want this to happen it may be worth mentioning this politely over in the update thread at logitech, just keep it civil, as they don't seem to respond to threats or negative comments well, resulting in radio silence so to speak. Anyway, enjoy, and happy flying.
  7. Just buy it, and if it doesn't run then you have an excuse to get a new computer as well. ;)
  8. Too true. I also doubt we will see dcs level simulation of 2 seater aircraft, as dcs aims to accurately model every part of flight and pilotage, and to switch seats in the heat of battle would ruin the high fidelity of realism IMO. Since this topic seems to be touchy I will add that it is just my opinion, so don't go blowing any veins out over my comments please people, you know who you are.
  9. I have to say that a good hotas will make a difference to your experience. The whole point of a hotas is that it allows the user to access all essential controls at your fingertips, meaning the level of control and mastery of the sim will increase, making the aircraft almost an extension of your own body. It means you don't even need to think about which button to press in a certain scenario, as muscle memory takes over once operating procedure is committed to memory. No it won't make you a better pilot, BUT, it will bring out the top gun within, and expose your true piloting potential. Obviously the better the controller, the less distractions you have, and better is defined by your simming requirements.
  10. What is your actual graphics card? It's not an on board card is it? Cos I don't think they fare too well in lockon. I saw a post recently on another forum with that exact graphical glitch and the problem was an onboard card.
  11. Damn that looks nice. You just need another 2 screens for the panoramic cockpit view.
  12. Yeah, relationships are like aircraft, they need maintenance from time to time, and when they get antsy you may have to sweet talk to get them to do what you want. I find that if my wife is playing her own game (xbox) she doesn't mind that I fly. But just don't let her catch you playing when she comes home from work or you will cop it big time!
  13. Tried viperpit.org ? There would definately be someone who could help you out over there I would say.
  14. I say if you don't have a wife to stop you then go for it. As far as producing them commercially, I guess just see how your project goes on here, use plenty of pictures detailing it's construction and wait and see if you get any offers.
  15. It's probably been said, but there should be built in viop channels and you should be able to assign a certain channel to a certain radio frequency, same goes for ground troops like if there was the inclusion of a real jtac in multiplayer, they could contact you and you could communicate in real time the way the real fellas do. Just a dream that's all, of course you would need to include realistic playable ground ops for it to work so it would probably never happen. But communicating with different flights on different channels could, would be fairly easy to implement once they built in the voip. But then you would need alot of bandwidth for all the voip channels I would think.
  16. I think only a mod can mate.
  17. Lol I said the same thing in the other thread, original helicopter Seat there, so I guess you can't blame him, though there really is something special about that aces, just makes you look like some star wars aircraft or something. BTW to any mods, these threads should probably be merged.
  18. Oh well, can't argue with original aircraft parts then. I look forward to see how it progresses, so keep us updated with plenty of pictures.
  19. Looks great snipes, but u need an aces ii there, mayaswell go the whole hog so to speak. I wish I could make something like that but I doubt the wife would approve.
  20. If that doesn't get your wife's motor running I don't know what will :smilewink:
  21. Just get yourself a HMD from emagin or tdvision, and you get to see the reticule for helmet aiiming mode anyway, plus you get 3d stereoscopic graphics. If u got the cash it's worth a look. Otherwise I think emagine also supplies single eyepiece translucent displays to the military, you could get one of those. Or here's an idea: use idisplay app with an old iPod touch for a second display and make a program to display the reticule by extracting lua data. Only problem is you probably won't beable to match up where your head is pointing to where the actual target is on your screen, even if you have three screens, which is why I suggested the HMD in the first place.
  22. In the end I want to be flying an aircraft that feels like a real aircraft with knobs and buttons and a decent pilot workload. I don't want voice activated missiles and picture in picture mfd's and turns the pilot into a golden flying god and renders you invisible to a radar. The more superior the aircraft the less of a challenge we can expect, and I'm sure we all love a challenge, or we probably wouldn't consider flying the ka-50 or the hog. I'm not saying it would be hella fun to fly a dcs level sim of the f-22, but I don't think it makes for a truly dcs experience IMHO.
  23. Triggerhappy mate, that thing you have been building there is brilliant, maybe some day you might get around to bolting on an engine and rotorblades and take her for a spin.
  24. Just go install a fresh lockon if you want the Crimean back, there's a whole world out there just waiting to have a military conflict. My vote is north Korea since this looks like a strong possibility; let's make 'kim-Jong-Il' a little more Kim Jong ill, and show them what American munitions smell like.
  25. You would think there would be some kind of saftey lockout pin to be removed before flight for the gau-8, since most other weapons have this. Pretty much anything that moves, atleast on an airliner can be locked out, not sure about the hog tho.
