  1. True succellus, it's sure not for everyone. Luckily my wife seems to be tolerating it (just wait till I ask her if I can build a pit). As far as time goes I know what you mean, I work a very variable schedule, some weeks I work 7 days and 12hr days, other weeks barely any at all, so my hours spent flying are all over the place. Luckily I fly with someone who can tolerate this. For me formation flying is self improvement and mastery. It is something all combat pilots must be able to do, maybe not at the same level as the patriots, but the ability to stay in a tight formation can prove to be a significant advantage in battle. Additionally, the satisfaction I get on a good day is incredible, and on a bad day it's a learning experience. I'm not trying to convince everyone to become formation fliers, but there may be a select few who are inspired to achieve this level of flying. Also, when I'm having a bad day in combat I can come back to formation flying to help bolster my ego :D
  2. I think you misunderstood. I wasn't saying I wanted dcs to become like battlefield 2, infested with swearing teenagers with insanely good mouse coordination. What I meant was that battlefield 2 encompassed infantry, tanks, aircraft and helicopters and integrated it into a single game. It probably wasn't the first to do this but it sure made it popular. What I would love to see is dcs fidelity complexity and modelling of systems and handling characteristics integrated with ground troops in an AA (america's army) type of realism, tanks, carriers, airbases, choppers, jets, military tactician and commanders, all integrated in the one system. Basically DCS allout war. So your flying your dcs warthog in some realistic war scenario and get a call from you real life jtac who can then lase an enemy tank or something and job done. You can't tell me that wouldn't be cool. (oh, it would have to be 18 yrs + to keep out the annoying swearing kids.
  3. Yeah, think Dcs battlefield 2, that would be a dream. I think it's possible, but in today's gaming market definately not probable. For it to happen I think we would need multiple dev's working in unison on separate realms like sea, air and ground, but using the same engine, and smart dev tools that are specific for each realm but allow them to intermesh flawlessly. One can dream.
  4. You guys are looking awesome there blaze. Really looking forward to vfat! Pushing this sim to the limits.
  5. And the difference between the two communities? Catharsis! Just use the gau8 avenger on a column of tanks and try telling me you don't feel better.:joystick:
  6. Maybe the next dcs module will be leaked on wikileaks, someone's gotta hack into the USAF and snoop around in there.
  7. If you are into just flying and want a challenge why not consider attempting formation/aerobatic flying. It is a huge challenge and requires countless hours of dedication to the cause, and patience is key, but the benefits you reap are the satisfaction of mastering controlled flight and the enjoyment of meeting really great people doing what they love. We need more good formation fliers that's for sure. I fly formation in fc1.12, not many people on there any more but enough to keep it alive. Soon I will be switching to fc2 where the berkuts phantom has moved to which means more opportunities to master your skills. If there's anyone out there who is still playing fc1.12 who wants to try this drop into hyperlobby, I'll be around and probably a few others.
  8. I would be interested in this, although I'd use it for flaming cliffs, so if there was an area to fool around with the inputs from .lua's that would be handy. Otherwise nevermind. As far as the legality of using the sdk from logitech, that was exactly what they intended due to their laziness, you just can't sell it for a profit without their permission. good luck anyway. I have a sneaking suspicion they are going to release the ability to manipulate led's with the next logitech gaming software release, however I doubt it will integrate with lua's, and probably won't be very flexible. This is why we need programs like this. If you feel like making a fc2 version that would be great also. :D
  9. Actually, if you look on the dcs homepage the banner at the top has an f/a-18 hornet, an ah-64 apach, an m1a1 abrams tank and some kind of frigate, my guess is we might be in for a mixed bag of goodies. Of course I am joking, I can't imagine a frigate sim, maybe a tank sim but that's not ED's style yet.
  10. Yeah I have the same problem sometimes, but with my airbrake, especially when the controls loose their sound.
  11. How long after the release was that?
  12. Yeah no worries, I'll be keeping an eye on it I guess, btw thanks for the speedy reply, I barely posted my comment.
  13. Yeah, like most airliners, you will hear the gears extend and retract with a loud clunk, and flaps extending and retracting as well. I know there is a big difference between an airliner and a fighter jet (I worked on airliners, cone-head here).
  14. 159th_Viper, any idea how long after the final release the boxed version might hit the shelves of the dcs online store?
  15. I would totally recommend VAC as well, I only used it for the 30 day trial, but in that time it worked almost flawlessly. It has voice training, you can program multiple profiles for different games. I went so far as to map each menu item such as 'wingman attack air defences', and this made it so easy in the heat of battle, as well as in the leadup to battle, if coming headon with a small group of mig-29's in the f-15 AWACS kill mission in fc1.12, as soon as I reached the 3rd wpt I would tell my wingman 'go pincer right', so he heads off to the right and a mig starts to split off and track him, so I go full burners and we intercept him with aim-120's while his buddy is high and dry behind him and we reengage the second mig successfully. It just goes to show how intuitive the voice commands can make it. I'd imagine in dcs a-10c it would be almost indispensible, for instance when working with a jtac, no fumbling through comms menus, just speak and it will be done, job done, bomb dropped, target destroyed and happy days.
  16. I will buy DCS A-10c as soon as it comes out on hard copy, unfortunately I don't have unlimited downloads so I can't get the beta. Sucks that I have to wait till it's released which will probably be some time next year, but maybe I'll beable to get a new pc and trackir before then so I can actually play it as it was intended
  17. Silly question, especially since I have a g940' not a warthog, but I had similar problems. Have you tried a different USB port, specifically one connected directly to your mobo, rather than a hub? Also have you tried disconnecting other USB devices that might not be as crucial, as this stick probably requires a fair amount of current. Otherwise ignore me if I am stating the obvious.
  18. Might I suggest a nickname for the failed x32 design, I feel it is fairly flattering considering it's design....... Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the x32.....'pidgeon'. Actually that name is probably already taken. Oh and the chances of the f-35's groundbreaking radar being released to the public when it hasn't even passed testing phase are about the same as me getting a ride in it, flying solo.
  19. Just curious, does dcs a-10c have axes for allowing differential braking or is it like fc with a single key to brake?
  20. And a lack of blood going to the brain which is typically induced by pulling too many positive g's is known as GLOC (gravity induced loss of consiousness). Additionally, a complete lack of oxygen is known as anoxia.
  21. Ground power unit? Lol jk, how about the ac inverters from the engines?
  22. Just curious, does trackir fixer improve the random head drift at all? I ask this because I've been using it on fc1.12 and am getting fc2 which trackir fixer will work with.
  23. Yeah, I think it's a limitation of the software, maybe with a patch or update they will reduce this. For me free track isn't good enough, but I don't have a dual core which is recommended requirements, causes lag in lomac. I'm Gona wait to get trackir 5.
  24. That's an interesting point tusler, we should be thinking of how the next dcs will complement the previous.
  25. I haven't even played the beta dcs a10c, but in jtac videos the voice comms sound a bit too unrealistic. Each word sounds a bit too much like it was recorded on it's own. How about in the future for non scripted voice comms, using some kind of text to speech narrator system? You can get pretty good ones. Either that or somehow improve the quality of the comms somehow so it sounds like one sentence rather than single words. Just don't use that weird nerdy one that Stephen hawkins uses.
