  1. Engine overheat? Or maybe oil overpressure? That's if there even is an engine oil indication, don't remember one.
  2. Hey, i didnt notice any reflections in the canopy, will have to check again. EDIT: I did notice that when the shadows pass over the canopy reflections, the reflections disappear, it's a nice effect, and would be expected IRL. well done ED. Next you need to add a reflection of the external world being reflected in the opposite sides of the canopy, and reflections on all instruments such as the mfcd's, and what would be really awesome is if you would get lens flares off all reflective surfaces when the sun is reflecting off the surface and into the pilots pov. The ability to flick down your glare shield on your helmet would dampen this lens flare effect allowing better visibility.
  3. I don't know if has already been requested, but I think realistic canopy reflections would add a new dimension to the fidelity of the graphics, and coupled with dynamic shadows in cockpit, would make for an unreal graphical experience.
  4. What's so hard to understand; it has now been stated twice that it will be a US fixed wing FIGHTER, and typically US fighters are denoted with a 'F-' prefix, visavi my comment.
  5. Effectively a trim tab changes the deflection of a control surface, altering it's AOA (angle of attack). If you trim nose up, the trim tab on the elevator deflects up, lowering the elevator AOA and causing tailplane to sink, and the nose to rise. Think of clicking the trim up on your hat switch as effectively pulling back on the stick slightly without letting go, this will cause the nose to keep rising and depending on your airspeed will rise higher and higher, up to the point that the forces between the lowering of the tail and the pull of gravity on the front end of the aircraft are balanced. Atleast this is my understanding.
  6. Holy sh!t, can I be your friend? :D
  7. Don't worry, you will get used to it, that jerkiness is just the motors. I found I had to turn down the force feedback settings down to about 85 , sorry not sure which slider that was tho. Good luck with your recent purchase, she's a real handfull sometimes, but you gotta love her.
  8. JUst a question sickdog, with the app you are making, do you see a possibility of building a complete database of all current missions, airfield maps, and allowing the ability to import this all in one go to save people the effort of entering it all manually? Also just a suggestion also if you haven't already thought of it. I think the inclusion of checklists would be invaluable, and the ability to create new ones for certain tasks. I know it's all in the manual, but I like the idea of a compressed version of the instructional lists to streamline it a bit. Thanks and great work.
  9. I would think the avionics upgrade would be the impetus for the military to drop a big piece of change on a DTS. I'm not sure but I think the fact the ka-50 is russian gave Ed the much needed detail to pull off black shark, did they even have a military contract for that one?
  10. Are there any harriers still in service with the US? I thought it was a military contract for an in service aircraft. Also I would think it would be an aircraft which has undergone some kind of avionics upgrade, which might require a training simulator, as the warthog did for a-c model. So what does that leave us with? Its obviously gonna strart with an F, so we got the 15, 16, 18, and the stealth 22 and 35, which are not very likely due to their secrecy. I'd prefer either the f-16 or f-18.
  11. The fact that ED releases a piece of info like 'next dcs is US fixed wing fighter', a piece of info that was already known, and the community goes wild like a pack of ravenous baboons, tearing at a carcass, tells me the flight simming community is truly jumping on board with DCS. We all support what you guys are doing, reigning in a new golden age for flight sims. The future really is lookingvup for the sinning community. I personally think Microsoft dropped the ball by completely stripping out the whole flight sim genre and just leaving the bare bones with no meat. Us flight simmers are true meat eaters, and we like to chew the fat, and these DCS modules are like spit roast feasts where we can feed our faces to our hearts content. Right now ED can do no wrong, just release a good fighter next of the same quality as warthog, keep adding new features, and we will back you all the way. I just hope the military contracts keep coming in.
  12. Nope sorry shaman, still trying to run this game so it's playable let alone talking to it.
  13. Who knows, why don't you take a peek through some folders.
  14. The way I see it, using lua to export key mission data would be the simplest way, but does lua even work when in the menus? The other thought I had was some kind of clipboard app which uses existing wifi network to import the clipboard info. There are a few apps which do this to my knowledge, can't remember the name. I think it is as simple as copying the text to the clipboard on your pc, and it shows up in the app. This is the simplest pre existing way I can see. But if someone can make their own app that would be great.
  15. Probably because each word is recorded separately and therefore it sounds disjointed and robotic. One way to get around this would be to use something similar to the voice narrator used in windows, but better and less nerdy that is.
  16. Or just get dcs a-10c, if your pc can handle it (and even if it can't— I'm using a p4 2.6ghz, 2gb ram and gf7600, it's barely playable but I still love every minute; and I can use it as an excuse to get a new pc to play this).
  17. Pfft, that's more an arcade game than a true simulation; give us a true nuclear reactor study sim like dcs, i want a full clickable control workstation! ;)
  18. sorry to be picky but that's a bit oxymoronic don't you think? More like it's not rendered at all (unless Im mistaken and it is rendered but moved off screen somewhere). Anyway, it's not really important. BTW I realise you may have meant to use the word rendered in a different context.
  19. Just get VAC (voice activated command), it does a pretty good job at recognizing voice commands and you can set it up to run through several different menu items at once.
  20. Oh nvm me, I gotcha now.
  21. My favourite part: "in practice it requires practice". Might not have been as funny if they weren't Danes.
  22. I voted chopper because I want the ah-64 after we get our top gun fix from the next dcs module. But that's potentially several years down the road, right now I'm focusing on the warthog and excitedly awaiting the announcement of the US fixed wing fighter.
  23. I personally would like to see a theatre with a very varied terrain, deserts, mountain ranges, cities, hovels. Middle east gets my vote. Let's take it to them, root out some insurgents, bust some bunkers and just bring some general mayhem to the region.
  24. would think tesselation would be extremely useful for improving terrain complexity. New shaders, maybe add self shadowing in cockpit, reflective surfaces with sub-surface scattering.
  25. Can you imagine how realistic dcs a-10c would look using dx11. That would be awesome. Even more amazing would be the monster machine you would need to run it with decent framerates.
