Agree, this will drive or accelerate innovation. I feel the same with my expen$ive 8kX. But I also feel that I still do not see or experience the full capabilities of my HMD with current hardware. There is still lots of room to improve performance and quality before even thinking to go to higher resolution HMD.
-
Running the same track with the same settings give me a 125-156 FPS in 2D using a 4k monitor, compared to 56-67 FPS in 3D using my Pimax 8kX at 4k per eye. This will vary a bit depending on the settings used but as a general rule, you can expect your 3D performance to degrade to 42 to 45% of what you get in 2D for the same settings in the same scenario.

Do yourself a favor, follow the instruction in the first two posts here: This could improve considerably your experience with your Valve index.
-
Same here, I am convinced now that it is a transitional product, sticking with my 8kX. Thanks @Txbitt for the review!

Why does the outside world look terrible in VR?
WipeUout replied to Callsign.Vega's topic in Virtual Reality
VR is not as sharp as a monitor. Consider if your 4k monitor occupy 60 degree of your field of view, this equates to 60+ pixels per degree (PPD). Your Crystal has 35 PPD, which is much less but still the best resolution you can expect from VR so far. The VR proposition is: Instead of looking at a simulation, you are in the simulation. You compromise image quality for immersion. -
Open OXRTK at the first menu page "Performance" then select "preset" for "Fixed Foveated rendering", then select performance. You can play with more settings if you select custom, you can define size of concentric rings and specific resolution for each of them.
-
Shadows to flat, heat blur off, Anis. Filtering off and bloom effect off. Use FFR in OXRTK, this will give you a substantial gain without sacrificing resolution in your sweet spot. Resolution in DCS option does not affect VR performance noticeably. I did some testing on this and saw 0.1 ms drop using 800x600 which is within the margin of error.
-
I assume you are running DCS-MT? The Pimax FFR does not work with MT, only the OXRTK FFR will work and I use the performance preset. Did you test this? It might be different for an 8K+ vs 8KX.

Seeing the same here, not a lot but definetely longer than previous OB version.

It's in your signature bloc: GPU: TITAN RTX - 2175 MHz, liquid cooled CPU: 9900K - 5.4 GHz, liquid cooled / MB: ASUS Maximus XI Gene RAM: G.Skill 32GB 4000 MHz Samsung B-Die SSD: Intel Optane 905P - 960GB

As I undertand it, distortion correction is not as demanding as generating a 3d image, but rather closer to a re-sampling operation. The Crystal has the same amount of pixel per eye than the 8kX: 8,294,400 pixels per eye. I think you are starving your HMD with the Titan RTX which has 57% of a 4080's performance according to Passmark charts.
-
I think you installed DCS on your "C:" drive in "Program Files". Try installing it elsewhere, on a separate drive.

How does anyone play online with such poor performance
WipeUout replied to Lorry's topic in Multiplayer
Just went on Enigma Syria server with 12 players. Sitting on the tarmac with high settings preset I get 110-120 FPS. We share the same GPU and very close CPU performance, there is something in the background eating your CPU cycles, you should be above 100 FPS. -
Pimax is not so good either at customer service and delivering the promises but going back to tunnel vision is worst for me. I like my 8kX, it is wide, clear and working fine in DCS. That's why I will probably stick with Pimax and get the Crystal.

What a revelation! An HMD that cost twice as much has more built quality and features I hope he tries the crystal in DCS also... That would be helpful!

No noticeable change in performance. Still getting a flicker free experience but I also noticed that the shader cache was completely erased after install, this could be the reason I was getting those random flickers. Not sure if the shader cache is erased after each driver update. If that is the case, then this version is the cure to my flickers.
-
Just installed the latest Nvidia driver 536.23 and the annoying random flicker is gone!!! I have been experiencing this flicker in all VR games including DCS. The flicker would happen following rapid head movement but not all the time, impossible to reproduce consistently and very annoying. After flying a few mission in which I always had a them, they are gone! Not sure if it was specific to my setup, anyone had this problem?

I just found out that it is a reported bug in the AV-8B forum. Nothing to do with WARZONES. All good! Merci pour la suggestion mais il semble que c'est un bug déjà rapporté avec le AV-8B, j'ai vue ça dans le forum.

reported Randomly unable to contact the ground crew or anyone on radio?
WipeUout replied to jubuttib's topic in Problems and Bugs
Same problem here, comm menu showing on the first key/button press but not showing after. -
Disabling SRS did not solve the issue but this menu problem happened only in the AV-8B. Tried with F-14, F-16, F-18 and no issue!?! Log attached but I did not noticed anything obvious. dcs.log.old.txt

Sorry I was not clear enough. I do get the text box with status, it is the F1-F10 comms menu that is not showing up when I press the binded key (''/'') or throttle button binded to the comms menu. I tried to re-bimnd to other keyboard key or button with no success. I also tried running my mission from my server and i am getting the same problem and the game eventually crash on the server. I will re-try and get the log.

If you run DCS multi-threading, the processor will not make a huge difference. Get more ram or save further for a 4080/4090 GPU, this will change your experience dramatically.
-
Unfortunately, with the latest patch applied (DCS 2.8.6.41066 Open Beta) I have completely lost the in-game comms menu. No error poping up, just the menu not showing anymore. Anyone else has this issue?

Good review and very intersting to see the performance comparison between the G2 and the Crystal from a 3080Ti perspective.
