  1. Do not agree. There is something causing this drop and not everyone is experiencing it, they just need to put the finger on it and it will be fixed eventually. If it was just added processing then everyone would see a drop, which is not the case. ED would not waste time investigating and asking for data!
  2. No issue but make sure you update with latest patches after, particularly KB5020044 which fixes stuttering in some systems.
  3. I re-installed Stable 2.7.18 as I did not have the 4080 then and wanted to update my baseline results. Here are my results with HIGH preset setting using my test track file (F-18, Caucasus): 2.7.18 2.8.1 Delta GPU FT 13.4 14.5 +1.1ms CPU FT 10.2 12.7 +2.5ms Seems that the CPU is taking a massive hit. This could explain why some are seeing huge FPS drop if they were already at the edge of their refresh rate with 2.7.18. Results with previous version 2.8.0.33006 are the same as latest 2.8.1. I use the following mods: VR Shader Mod, ReshadeVR_sharpen_color 4.9.1, F-14_VUX_v2.2, Taz1004_Better_Trees_v5_Med_Low, VR Loading Screen fix and PimaxXR/OpenComposite0.6.3/OpenXRTK. No plan to go back to OB until the problem is fixed. Unfortunately, only one version is possible with steam.
  4. No change here either in my test track (F-18 Caucasus). Sorry that this bug is taking so much time and effort!
  5. Sorry for your bad experience, no issues with the 4080 though. Only negative is that Pitool's Fix foveated is not working with SteamVR but alternatively can be used within OpenXR Toolkit which also has better performance that SteamVR.
  6. Actually, generating a mirror image seems to have some cost. Not a lot but still there is a cost because your HMD image resolution is not the same as your monitor or the mirror. And if the system had to manipulate/resize/crop the image, then there are resources required to do that but not necessarily the GPU, the CPU is also involved. To know what impact it has is very difficult. I experimented with desktop resolution from 800x600 to 4k and switching VR option "Mirror: Use system Resolution" on and off and noticed very slim differences inside the margin of error so difficult to draw any conclusion. If we had the option to turn the mirror on/off, we might see a difference in performance or not but definitely we would have the facts to correctly answer the question.
  7. As stated, screen freezes every half seconds until the whole list of servers is loaded. The freezing time can be short to several seconds and seems to increase with time as the server list grows. this issue has been there for a while, over a year for sure. I use a wired (ethernet RJ45) connection through a router connected directly to the ISP modem. Internet is fed to the house through fiber optic directly connected to my ISP modem. dcs.log
  8. Keep an open mind @nikoel, what @Slammin is mentioning is a very good point. There are also electronic components on a graphic card that are not created equal. I speak from experience, respect this. Try it for yourself and then comment from experience. The prices you mention are MSRP, if you can find 4090 at MSRP bravo! Did not see any so far, the cheapest one on amazon today is 2100$. Experience, not theory smoke or mirrors. And a washed car is "faster" as it offer less resistance to air.
  9. I would just add : Unless pancake gaming is more important to you than VR, and ray tracing not much.
  10. Well this is not what I experienced, the fact is that within SteamVR, the AMD card rendering was not as good as the Nvidia's. And the 4080 might cost too much but paying 1000$ for 10-15% more performance with a 4090 is even worst. I have made the switch and sad to say but AMD does not support VR as well as nvidia. Even with OpenXR, I see better performance uplift that when I had a 6900xt.
  11. This sounds like you are super sampling with PiTool. Leave this (Render Quality) at 1, restart your computer but make sure to completely unplug and re-plug your HMD from the computer before you restart it. If you want to super sample, use pixel density (PD) within DCS but not too much because unlike a resolution slider, PD will jump quickly to a high super sampling value. PD 1.1 = 121%, PD 1.2 = 144%, PD 1.3 = 169%. OpenXR is more efficient than SteamVR but not with AMD cards, much better with nvidia. I found that neither FSR nor NIS provide good results, I use Fix Foveated (in OpenXR) instead with a good performance uplift of 1.1ms in my GPU FT and no loss of quality in the center image. The wider field of view of the pimax is better suited for Foveated. Unfortunately, PiTool Foveated rendering does not seem to work with OpenXR but the OpenXR Fix Foveated setting works fine.
  12. Oh, I did not experienced this since I use a Pimax with wider field of view. Foveated is definitely more suited for wide field of view. Thank for the feedback and useful information on your quest to better visuals/performance.
  13. Not sure your Uningine results are where they should be, my results with my 4080 are bellow. Looking at your nvidia CP settings, you might want to set power management to max performance. Have you compared SteamVR vs OpenXR? For me OpenXR is more stable, I was getting occasional stuttering with SteamVR. As far as setting in OpenXR TK, I find that using Fix Foveated Rendering provides a nicer result than NIS or FSR in performance and image quality.
  14. I feel the need, the need for speed! Which is opposite of rational. Still, there was a limit. Upgraded to 4080 from 6900XT. I paid 1600 USD for the 6900XT in the worst part of the GPU shortage 1.5 years ago. Sold it for 400 USD and bought a 4080 at 1450USD. The 4090 would've been nice but I was not ready to spend an extra 1000 USD, my need for speed was not that high. The 4080 provided me with a 30% increase in FPS over the 6900XT. I also considered getting a 3090ti but it was about the same price as a 4080, and would've provided about 15% increase in FPS. I am happy with the 4080, final cost was a little more than 1000 USD.
  15. Recently switched from a 6900XT to a 4080. I had a 2080Ti before the AMD card and forgot how much better it is with the green team hardware. Switching back to Nv with a 4080 was a revelation right at the start, I could not believe how better the image quality and contrast is with nvidia. The 6900xt was a powerful GPU but unfortunately AMD does not have VR as a high priority. Unless there is significant improvement in VR support from the red team, I will stick with nvidia even if it cost more. And BTW, the 4080 is gving me 31% more FPS compared to my 6900XT OC'ed at 2825 Mhz.
  16. I came upon a post in VR that explains how changing desktop resolution can improve VR performance. I did a simple test and noticed that changing my desktop resolution from 4k to 800x600 did provide a small improvement from 16.47ms to 16.15ms. It is not much on my system but some folks report up to 75% improvement in FPS on low-end PCs. This is evidence that showing a mirror image does take resources and has a performance cost. I think that having an on/off switch for the mirror might provide some benefits.

  17. Interesting finding going to 800x600 desktop, not much of an improvement on my system (about 1.2 FPS) but still this proves that the mirror image has a performance cost. We need a switch in DCS settings to turn the mirror on or off!
  18. Very sad reality. I have switched back to green team, cost a lot but now better experience.
  19. 22H2 has some gaming performance issue that just got resolved, at least for me with patch KB5020044. If you go Win11, make sure it is fully up to date. From an OS perspective only, I find Win11 more efficient and slick. I did struggle at first finding some stuff but now quite happy.
  20. Same result here, only DCS MSAA seems to work. Even increasing resolution in SVR does not reduce shimmers as well as DCS MSAA.
  21. I Tried the quest a few months ago and coming from a Pimax, it was very "tunnel vision" and restrictive. An 8K is not cheap and you need the lighthouse (controllers are optional if only DCS) but the increase in FOV add so much to the immersion. Try a Pimax, you will never go back to potato vision.
  22. Agree, CPU is the problem here. I upgraded from a 9900k to a 12700kf and although I did not see a vast increase in FPS, the lows were much higher resulting in a completely smooth experience. DCS is a single core game, you need a fast single thread processor to give breathing room to your GPU. The GPU is fed by the CPU because the virtual world you are flying in reside in the computer's memory, not the GPU memory. You can experiment the single thread nature of DCS by playing a heavily populated mission on your computer vs a dedicated server which effectively provide you a second thread. You will see your CPU frametime getting much flatter. Upgrade that CPU.
  23. I see that you miss flying a lot. You are very lucky to have experienced this. Not all of us have, DCS is the closest we will ever be. You said we all want the best, you`re right, and we have the best, we have DCS! It`s not perfect and under development forever, but it is getting better and better. Save your money, buy yourself a real airplane and be happy again. You need it.
  24. I tried OpenVR_FSR and it works but did not use toggle keys, only changed settings in the cfg file. Performance was same as in 2.7.18, which is too much compromise on image quality in favor of increased FPS.
  25. Did test quite extensively in 2.7.18. No magic here as this will increase your FPS but will cost a lot in image resolution and quality. This mod is based AMD's FSR upscaling technique. Here are the increases I got at the same settings but different "quality" value: Sharpness : 0.9, Quality =0.77 (Delta = 13.8 FPS) Sharpness : 0, Quality =0.87 (Delta = 7.6 FPS) Sharpness : 0, Quality =0.85 (Delta = 9.0 FPS) The problem I experienced with this mod is that I did gain FPS but when trying to get better clarity and resolution, I found myself having to increase super sampling to a point where it negated the FPS gain to get an acceptable image clarity. After a short while, I went back to my old settings without this mod, and realized that my image quality is much better without it after all. There is no magic, you have to compromise on quality to get more FPS.
