Just to mention that also I am still enjoying the 8KX. I need to recify some facts about the actual horizontal FOV, it is not 200 degree but about 170. The 200 degrees is diagonal FOV in wide FOV mode. In normal FOV mode, it is about 140 degree horizontal and this is what I use to keep my FPS above 90. I tried also higher PPD (The Varjo) and was so much disapointed with the FOV that I decided to stick with the 8KX. I guess that the wide FOV for me is increasing immersion much more than PPD. In any case, the 25PPD of the 8KX is quite good... Can we get an 8KX 2.0? With eye-tracking?

@MStewart40 Performance wise I would stick with Pimax Play 1.29, along with PimaxXR 0.4.4 and QVFR 1.1.3. If you use sharpening, install OpenXRtoolkit also and used CAS sharpening with it as it is the best in term of performance compared to using sharepening in DCS or QVFR. 1.34 is good with built-in OpenXR and QVFR support but it is not quite optimized yet.

Integrated OpenXR & Quadviews coming to Pimax Play
WipeUout replied to jaapgrolleman's topic in Pimax
Assuming you are using the crystal light (or a Pimax 8kX which has the same pixel count) and you want to maximize performance. First, install Pimax Play 1.29, not 1.33 as it has poor performance with OpenXR. Second, in this order: 1. install PimaxXR ( https://github.com/mbucchia/Pimax-OpenXR/wiki) and select the OpenXR button in the start screen to ensure it will no go to SteamVR. 2. Then OpenXRToolkit (https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/) and enable CAS if you use any sharpening, CAS in OpenXKtoolkit is the most efficient compared to all other sharpening you can get through DCS settings or Quadviews. Do not activate anything else maybe with the exception of Turbo mode, it might help. 3. Then install Quadviews (https://github.com/mbucchia/Quad-Views-Foveated/wiki) and read all instruction how to create the config file in order to maximize performance. After that, you can check the box for quadviews in DCS VR settings. You should get around 20-30% increase in performance over SteamVR. Going to OpenXR you will not be able to use fpsVR anymore but OpenXRtoolkit has a similar feature to check performance. Do not activate turbo mode in PimaxXR or Quadviews if you want to use this feature as it will not report GPU Frametime anymore. Use turbo mode with OpenXRtoolkit only. Good luck -
Assuming you have the most recent BOIS update done, this should not happen. If your CPU is reaching 100 deg C, it means that the safe intel limits in the BIOS are not being applied. With the safe limits, your CPU will drop clock speed as to not reach thermal throttling. You should reset your BOIS setting to default and then try again to see if you get the same behavior. If it reaches 100C again on default settings, you should RMA your CPU.

Why cause even further issues? If you are not happy with the situation you can voice (or write) it. Causing their sales to go lower is not going to help in any way, on the contrary if too many people do this it will eventually hurt the company's financial health.

If you are using only one lighthouse, make sure it is on channel A. Scan rate on channel A is 60hz, other channels (B, C) are only on 30hz and will not work as well. You might also consider upgrading your system, VR is pretty demanding. Look at system recommendation for VR, you are short for several aspects...

After a few flight with 1.33 and the latest DCS update, my GPU frame time jumped by 0.5 ms. Going back to 1.29 and re-installing PimaxXR resulted in going back to the same performance I had before, which rules out the latest DCS update as a probable cause. Having OpenXR runtime built-in Pimax play is a good idea but for me, it is decreasing performance significantly. I think there is room for optimization here. I am still running Windows 11 pro 23H2 and my Nvidia driver is 552.44 (still the best for 4090).

Which VR headset do you primarily use for playing DCS?

The Amazing Pimax 8KX! -
Every couple of months, I go back at steam VR only to see and realize again how much I loose performance with this runtime. On average, to get that same quality, I will end up with 1.5 to 2.5 ms increase in GPU frametime compared to OXR which make the difference between playable and not-playable. One big difference is the ability to use QVFR with OpenXR runtime, with SteamVR you are limited to FFR (not sure about DFR, I have a Pimax 8KX and do ot use DFR) that offers some increased performance but not as much as QVFR.

Using Quadviews (mbuccia's app) after a re-install is as it was before native openXR support built-in Pimax play. I tried to use the integrated Quadviews in Pimax play (you have to remove mbuccia'a app and OXRTK) and it did not give any good result. I did not find a way to tweek settings other than the three options within Pimax Play ''Game'' stettings (perf, balance, quality). If there is a way to set things up such as size of fixed_area, resolution etc, then it could improve but for now, did not see this, anyone has an idea? For now, I re-installed OXRTK and Quaviews 1.1.3, this is still providing the best results. Got rid of PimaxXR and this is the only benefit so far.
-
Dear @mbucchia, I am confused too. After installing Pimax Play 1.33, I only uninstalled PimaxXR and started DCS. DCS would start but just the mirror image working, nothing in the HMD. Then I uninstalled Quadviews and re-installed it, started DCS and all good. Tried to open OXRTK in game and it worked, CAS still being applied as before, all good. What I understand is that in order to have OXRTK working, you still need to have Quadviews 1.1.3 installed to be in this situation: If I remove Quadviews 1.1.3 and want Quadviews to work at API level, I will need to remove OXRTK as well. Is that the case? I really like using OXRTK for CAS as it is the most performing way to sharpen, any other way is increasing GPU frametime.

Settings are a bit different than that. For FFR you have two choices now in PimaxPlay ''Games'' settings: QuadViews or Pimax. Tried both and saw no difference whasoever. Seems that if Quadviews is installed, Pimax FFR will not kick-in even if selected and Quadviews will run. I have not tried to uninstall Quadviews to see if it makes a difference. As for Selecting OpenXR runtine, there are no selection box, just a line in general settings showing which runtine is active. Seems you either run OpenXR or Steam if SteamVR is running.

Are You Planning on Buying Pimax Crystal Super or Crystal Light?
WipeUout replied to jww123's topic in Virtual Reality
I feel exactly the same. The day I can run my 8KX in DCS at its highiest possible settings will be the day I will start thinking about upgrading my HMD. -
Integrated OpenXR & Quadviews coming to Pimax Play
WipeUout replied to jaapgrolleman's topic in Pimax
I'm curious to hear what you think about this? Do you think this could improve performance to have all of this (OpenXR runtime+Quadviews+Pimax Software) as one integrated software instead of three? Even with no performance improvement, this will simplify things quite a bit anyway. -
Good point. In any case I do not regret doing a fresh install, in some cases I am getting better CPU performance up to 10%. It's amazing how windows is slowing down after some time. My last fresh install was about 1.5 years ago and despite being carfull with maintaining the system, it slowed down noticeably.

Understand but money was used in the first place for the F-15E module. Part of that money was sales for RB, instead it will go to another party.
-
Why would they not be compensated? The money that was paid for a RB module is simply going back in the virtual pot and then used to pay for another module??? The money would have been going to RB but that specific sale is lost. Which is an indirect incentive for RB to resolve quicker before they loose a significant portion of the F-15E sales.

Back on 23H2 and stutters gone! Unfortunately, I had to "fresh Win11 install", took me two days to get back in DCS but wow, very smooth and stable. Stay away from 24H2, for a while at least...
-
And updating also has consequences it seems. Particularly early updating.
-
Anyone tried this already? Well I did and it is not good so far. Coming from an intel setup I was not expecting much improvement but from my reserach it seemed it would provide a better gaming platform. No gain whasoever in GPU performance anywhere. CPU performance droping in some cases and even by 35% in 3DMark TimeSpy CPU test!! In DCS I am experiencing a slight degradation in performance but stutters as soon as I move my head. Very anoying. I have a few more things to try to tweek but looks like I will have to fresh re-install 23h2 as there is no going back without fresh install. Damn. My advice: If you are on intel, do not update to 24H2 now.

Thanks for pointing this out, I do not use game specific setting but instead HMD specific. My settings are updated in my post.

This is well known issue called the "pimax dance", we (pimax 5/8 owners) all have to do this most of the time. Good it was easy to fix.
-
After getting more and more blackouts latetly, I decided to open the 8KX to see inside if there were anything I could see and found the issue. Inside the HMD are two 2.4GHz antennas held in place by double-sided tape, no idea what is the purpose of these antenna but turns out, they were not sticking to the tape anymore and dangling. I replaced the double sided tape with new one, re-seated the antennas and no blackouts anymore!! Seems that the antennas were causing random intermitent interference on other electronic component resulting in screen flashing to black. Here is a picture of the opened HMD and antennas : null

Are you still using Pitool or Pimax Play? Use Pimax Play, much better and stable. Is the base station showing a green light? Do you see the base station icon flashing in Pimax Play? Do not use channel B or C, only use channel A if you are using only one base station. Channel A provides 60hz refresh rate and a much smoother tracking.
