  1. I'm intending to use them to alter radio and TACAN/ILS frequencies in the A-10. I don't want to buy a tonne of them so my intention is to get a 3 position toggle switch for the radios and use it to select which radio I'm changing the frequency of. Like a shift state as such.
  2. Well done Tom - I hope you don't start missing your simpit!
  3. This is why I love forums. I was half ready to just have a bash at it! Thanks again guys.
  4. Thanks for making that clear everyone. Lucky I have that Bodnar board I guess!
  5. There has always been a lot of confusion surrounding Rotary Encoders, and I'm struggling to make sense of it. What I understand is that a typical rotary encoder (Such as this) will send a button press to either output, depending which way you turn it, per click. Connect each output pin to a digital input and the ground to any common ground. Turn left and input 1 fires, turn right and input 2 fires. Keep turning right and input 2 fires repeatedly. Correct? Assuming the above is indeed correct, I don't understand why there is talk about needing to use a Bodnar board and some kind of software to "interpret" the input. Surely its just seen as a momentary button? All I want to do is connect the rotary encoder to Helios and send each pulse to increment a feature (Tacan freq inc/dec etc). Why would I need some special software to implement this? As it happens, I do own a Bodnar BU0836X so if that is the only way to do it then fine, but I'm just failing to see why it wouldn't simply work as any other button on my Brydling B256A13
  6. Hey all, I have a tricky one I can't find a simple answer to. My simpit has/will have controls for pretty much everything I need in flight - (AHCP, CDU/AAP, UFC, MFD's, HOTAS), so there is very little need for a mouse when I'm in the air. The remainder of tasks, (Elec panel/boost pumps) I'm looking to do with Voice control (Probably Voice Attack) The one thing that I can't think of is changing radio frequencies. Is there any way to say something like "VHF AM to one two four zero zero" and so on? I know people have found ways to speak the radio commands "Request landing" etc so I'm wondering how that works too. Thanks in advance!
  7. Progress! Got a very daunting box from TomDK, which took me a lot of time to figure out! Spent the day figuring out the wiring and hooray, it all works! Next job is to get the UFC positioned, and paint the console tops. I'm hesitating on painting them because I still need to get a Warthog and cut out the throttle mount for it.
  8. That's awesome! Best thing I can say is take pictures of EVERYTHING! You never know when you'll need a reference of some weird little crevice that nobody else would ever think to photograph. Looking forward to seeing your build.
  9. Slaw Device F-16 look extremely good. I know Grass just got some, check his build thread.
  10. Parts all arrived safely today. Thanks again Tom. Pleasure to deal with. All the components are excellently built - Anyone purchasing the remaining panels will be extremely satisfied.
  11. What's the total width of these? Look like a higher quality alternative to the Saitek Combat Rudders, but not sure if I have room
  12. EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks so much. It'll be some weeks before I can pick up a Warthog, but I'll undoubtedly be ordering an extension from you.
  13. Wow, it's been a LONG time! Decided to rebuild the simpit because why not! Will probably be less detailed this time round, but the build will be better! Here's a catch up for those interested! Last time round I made a few mistakes. One was that the front panel was flimsy. Moving around the pit was wobbly and felt like I could break something. It was also in the way. My GF moved in with me and it was far too big. We built a home theatre and the pit simply didn't fit any more. I had a Vocal Booth I used to use for recording music, but that hobby has been dead for a long time now, so the room was free to be repurposed. Simpit time! I started from scratch with no plans this time round. I'd like to have done Dimebug's build again but the room doesn't quite accommodate the measurements. Instead I made it up as I went along, with both flight and racing in mind. So far I think I'm going pretty well! I need to source the big three again. HOTAS Warthog, some rudder pedals and Cougar MFD's, but I have a diving trip to the Red Sea coming up so they'll have to wait. In the meantime however I have some goodies coming from TomDK, including a CDU, UFC and some console panels. I'll get those wired up and deal with the input devices when I can! I also have an X52 to tide me over. Below are some photos documenting the current state of affairs! Thanks for checking back in. EDIT: Apologies for the upside down photos. I never understand why that happens.
  14. Rebuilding my simpit at the moment, and I have a question before I get my Warthog. What is the forward stick deflection on the Warthog, both default, and with each extension? I need to know how much space I can get away with. My prime concern is how far forward the stick comes from center position, so it doesn't hit my front panel. Once I know how far forward it moves I'll know whay size extension I can accomodate. I want as long as possible because I intend to fly helos aswell as the A-10.
  15. Extrusion is a very good and versatile material to work with. Pros: Very strong for its relative weight Easy to get hold of Lots of useful shapes and connectors (Hinges, angle brackets, joiners) Infinitely adjustable Cons: Expensive Requires extensive planning before purchase of materials Not always easy to retrofit other components (Switch panels etc) I've seen some great cockpits for a variety of uses (Total Spanish Simulator comes to mind)
  16. IIRC the virtual joystick drivers are an optional module of the TrackIR client installation. Not sure if you can change the way TIR presents itself in the app possibly?
  17. Delanclip is the best solution I've seen Edit: Sniped!
  18. Based in Kent UK. Looking for the above. Please PM with anything you might have.
  19. Interesting to hear Lynx. What's your eta? No need to be specific, just wondering if we're talking weeks or months!
  20. Thanks! I'll contact Tom and see if he's interested in splitting it up. Don't know how those guys can charge that kind of money - The finish doesn't even look that tidy!
  21. Hi Tom, have you planned on selling components individually? Very interested in your UFC. And maybe CDU depending on price?
  22. Started reconstructing the simpit, and I'm looking for a plug and play UFC. I'm ok with basic wiring but when it comes to programming and microelectronics then I'm lost! Ideally I'd like something that I can just screw to my pit and stick a cable in! Also looking for Saitek Combat Rudders, TM:Warthog and Cougar MFD's in the UK. Will post in the buy/sell but PM me if you have any of that!
  23. Wow, can't believe it's actually been a year! I just sold my TM:WH, and sent the buyer a link to show my cockpit (Hello if you're reading this!) and thought I'd have a read through the project thread again. I've made some big changes over this past year - As anyone who's seen my sale thread will have noticed! I've stopped flying, but I'm still simming! Racing is where my interests lie now, and my cockpit has been adapted to match. Just thought you guys might be interested to see how it is in it's current form :) Hope you're all having a wonderful Christmas!
