MFCD visibility issue due to SRGB being enabled in 2.8
ColinM9991 replied to ColinM9991's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Issue and line of code are still present in the latest patch, still no official statement from ED as to whether this is an intentional change that remains to be undocumented in the changelogs. -
This message struck me. I feel for you, it's quite a tough position to be in. FWIW, I have had issues with some of your campaigns in the past but that's never been as a result of your actions or mission design. The issues stemmed from the poor wingman and general AI in DCS.

MFCD visibility issue due to SRGB being enabled in 2.8
ColinM9991 replied to ColinM9991's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
I asked BN in Discord whether there had been any updates in relation to this issue. Rather frustratingly, there are no updates and the dev team haven't been asked as to why the input_space_SRGB line of code was added to the page.lua file, as I mention above. As I figured when I first raised this issue, I think it's just going to be a manual fix for the years to come. For anybody interested I have attached an OvGME compatible repository to patch over the LUA file thus disabling SRGB. MFCD_Fix.zip -
DCS Newsletter discussion 17th February 2023 - RAZBAM F-15E Pre-order
ColinM9991 replied to BIGNEWY's topic in DCS 2.9
Is this EDs official stance then? Rhetorical question, to be clear, as I know the answer is no. How long more are we going to blabber on about Steam vs anti-Steam? Also, Valve's rate isn't a flat 30%. It's 30%, 25% and 20% based on the value of total sales. If ED had an issue with the take then they're are absolutely within their rights to remove DCS from Steam. They have already said there is no intention of doing this. Additionally, Valve aren't clawing at the money. They're providing an entire ecosystem to the publishers and developers to market their game, distribute it as well as support modding. It's up to ED to take advantage of this. They don't, because any modding support needs to be agnostic. Come on people, get a grip. Two systems can coexist without you having to shove your opinion down everybody's throat. -
DCS Newsletter discussion 17th February 2023 - RAZBAM F-15E Pre-order
ColinM9991 replied to BIGNEWY's topic in DCS 2.9
Any chance of the auth endpoints being moved away from the website so future pre-orders don't bring down multiplayer for people? Absolutely nothing wrong with having a pre-order and generating hype for one, but it does become an issue when it impacts people's weekend plans. And before anybody goes off on one, no - this is not at all an unreasonable ask. Having everything integrated as one is a single point of failure. -
now available ARC-210 Radio Status
ColinM9991 replied to Leg2ion's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Is it a PDF? Any chance of it being posted somewhere like Google Drive or Dropbox? Of course, I appreciate some work went into creating it but I don't see a reason to sign up for an account only to download a document. -
The wording is quite poor, but there is a diagram one page down that depicts the intent. You're not turning "into" the wingman, you're flying in a radius around them. Once you reach a certain point then the wingman initiates a turn, hence the circle begins where you're both on opposing sides of each other. Screenshot taken from the next page. Wingman initiates the turn as soon as Lead's nose passes the parallel point.

Need to log in to download this it seems. -
They're minimal, sure, and W11 does also degrade the UX compared to W10 (worth mentioning this). However, with Intel's thread director there should be better utilization of P and E cores compared to W10. That said, if OP has an AMD then I'd tend to agree with your view on sticking with W10. Microsoft seem to have picked Intel as a first-class passenger for W11 while leaving AMD behind. Money talks, in that regard.
-
That's not true and it depends on whether or not OP is running an Intel CPU that is >=12th gen. OP, if you're planning on upgrading to Windows 11 then I'd only suggest doing so if you're running a 12th or 13th gen Intel CPU. I'd also suggest doing a full install rather than an upgrade as it's generally a smoother process and less prone to bugs or errors.

This has been known for some time, but I wonder if HP have already stopped manufacturing headsets as I've noticed the G2 Omnicept Edition has been out of stock now for 2-3 months.
-
Oh no No harm done. I agree with Rudel that it is a nice gesture of you to offer Buzz a free copy of your campaign. At the very least, you've found another buyer in me.

Wrong emoji, perhaps? That's a middle finger. Nonetheless, it was a joke.

Well then, humour obviously isn't your strong point. Never mind.

I'll be celebrating my 80th in 50 years. I'll be in touch then.

Okay, I've tested now and can also see a difference between 2.7 and 2.8, however I disagree that the brightness is set to full by default - it's not. What it looks like is the text brightness has changed as a side-effect of a lighting and/or shadow change thus giving the text more of a glow, or the resources being used to display text, ceTexPoly, has been updated. The brightness can still be adjusted, making the green a bit more vivid, as you can see in the following pictures. 2.8 Before adjusting brightness 2.8 After adjusting brightness For reference, to see the difference between 2.7 & 2.8 2.7 Before adjusting brightness 2.7 After adjusting brightness Looking at both before pictures I think the text actually looks to be a similar brightness, it just has a more vivid glow around it in 2.8. Notice the RWR and other panels are also a bit darker in 2.7. In general I'd say this is just a knock-on effect of the changes to lighting and shadows, whereas the MFCD degradation was a deliberate change.
-
Do you have a before and after showing the difference of your black hud? Comparing night and day modes, or Off and On, isn't really enough to show a difference. To be honest, I'd argue your black hud should be undone for comparisons too. At some point today I'll compare with my 2.7 and latest Open Beta installs, and then again between the previous 2.8 and current Open Beta.

You need to create a shortcut, not modify the original exe.

How about not requiring credentials for the dedicated server? Aside from the fact that servers are linked to your store account, it makes no sense to demand users to type in credentials on something that should be headless and unattended. I appreciate there's a local web portal for changes, but I think FTPing some config files over to configure the server is generally a better idea as it frees up the need to have it tied to an account in the first place.
-
I've just discovered this thread - very interesting stuff. There were some comments on previous pages regarding a proper dedicated server, that isn't just a headless client acting as a server, but I assume this is outside of the scope of this request and far far down the road? Nonetheless, I've scripted and used scheduled events to make my Windows Server instance completely autonomous, so much so that, if it weren't for DCS demanding UAC, I could go months or years without ever having to remotely connect to the physical box. Having a proper unattended installation and update process, as @HC_Officialmentioned in their last response, would be amazing and a step in the right direction. Just to clarify on one point, what is "MM"?
-
I'll test it out again later but I can't see any difference, personally, nor anything in the files, related to hud brightness, that has changed between this and the last version. Brightness is usually configured in LUA (Game Install\Mods\aircraft\A10C_II\Cockpit\Scripts\HUD), unless it's also configured in the compiled binaries which I can't see. This is purely speculation, but maybe you had an axis bound for brightness that was starting half set? I don't know.

The UX of DCS, and the lack of clarity in changelogs, certainly leaves a lot to imagination. This is, however, a hotfix to maintain backwards compatibility since many players were having issues. I'd imagine things would hopefully be ironed out in the coming weeks with further updates. Having a configuration UI on Standalone is a good suggestion though, that's what us Steam users get when starting the game.
-
Not from what I can see I'm afraid.
-
Yeah it's the latest patch but compared with 2.7 standalone. Maybe it's a knock on effect of some lighting update
