Just purchased this morning...impressed (yet, overwhelmed)
Le0kong replied to robnpat's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I recommend starting with a light read of the manual before the training missions, not RTFM, but mainly the cockpit overview, leave things like the CDU chapter for after you overcome the initial shock. I find the training missions work better just to 'cement' what you read on the manual, not to learn from scratch. Print the HOTAS reference table from pages 84 to 90 in the manual, these are the only things you really need to memorize as soon as possible. The rest is better used by clicking through the cockpit mouse cursor, and only later as you find the ones you use most make keyboard/HOTAS shortcut for these. And like nomdeplume said, pause during the training missions and only continue after you really understood what the instructor said. -
It's been a long time i don't use that method, but from what i remember when you hold that button down, the stick becomes like a giant trim hat, after you trim you release the button. It's not realistic, but if you want to save a hat.

Haha, i didn't believe you, but i just flied that mission and he really says it. I looked into the credits to see which of the developers that voice belong to, but it seems it's actually a voice actor.

These errors don't seem like they are from the TIRFixer. Since you are on a 32bits Windows, have you tried the fixes on Nate signature: Normally they don't give these errors you mentioned, but it's worth trying i guess.
-
Which part don't work? Can you at least apply the patch on the 'newinput.dll' or are you getting a error message?
-
The last TrackIRFixer work only with the 32bits of DCS. Here is the link: http://naturalpointofview.blogspot.com/p/trackirfixer.html You need to apply the fixer into the x86 folder, '\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\bin\x86'. And play through the 'DCS A-10C_x86' shortcut. To use FreeTrack with the 64bits DCS i think you need to use PPJoy, but i never tried that.

Through Windows you can move the 'Save Games' directory to somewhere else, but it is going to move all other in that folder too, not only from DCS. Look it this topic for how: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1095744#post1095744

Advice to mission designers re waypoint placement
Le0kong replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
You could just change the altitude of a waypoint via CDU too. -
ED SIMS SCREENSHOT AND VIDEO THREAD!!!! (NO USER MODS OR COMMENT)
Le0kong replied to rekoal's topic in Screenshots and Videos
It will be great if someone could use one of these plugins/mods that do post-processing, but on DCS. Tunning it to look like MOTO screenshots. -
I use the default LWin+Numpad5 snap-view(HUD point of view), mapped to one of the HOTAS buttons through DCS itself(not through the HOTAS Profiler), during gun runs and they work simultaneously ok.

 Doh. Didn't saw it was Windows XP. But you already did it anyway.
-
Now your opinion/suggestions count double! "In Soviet Russia consumer demand higher prices." :D
-
Have you already tried the Mustang tip for 32bit Windows? It generally allows you to play on high settings with no corruption. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1084420&postcount=8

The problem is not if it works, the problem is creating unsuspected bugs because the files from the betas are parsed differently. Unless someone from ED comes here and say that some files are ok to re-use because nothing changed, fine. But a tester just said not recommended. The time you save may not be enough compared to the trouble you can get later.

The old maximum was around 250, right? That's quite a increase. :shocking:

Hey, what about the manual. Is the one available on DCS home page the new 'Final' one?
-
Yes, thats the way i do. If you are using uTorrent: Copy all 4 DCS files to a new directory, open the torrent file normally. Inside uTorrent right click the DCS torrent, go to Advanced, click on "Set Download Location", select the folder you copied the files early. Then right click again on the torrent and chose "Force Re-check". Start the torrent and it will be seeding.

For the MIC i'm using the mini-stick configured through bands as a hat. Raz, i'm using the rotary 2 as zoom too. I mapped it like any other axis, remember that for DCS to auto-detect a axis you need to move it completely from minimum to maximum. And make sure you are not confusing the Zoom axis with the Zoom buttons on the options.

Xbox 360 Controller and Black Shark - Question
Le0kong replied to Ivonq's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No need to edit lua files manually. just go in DCS options and assigning the button and axis like any hotas. I don't use the default x360 drivers from Microsoft, i use the XBCD drivers since they work better with non Xinput("Gams for windows live") games. Just a note that the XBCD drivers are a pain in the a** to install in a 64 bits windows, since you need do disable driver signing. I will attach both the DCS:BS config and the XBCD file to load on the XBCD controll panel. With mine XBCD profile there 4 presets that you can change by pressing the "sphere" button during a game, and the light will change to the profile you are using. I used the #3 for DCS and #2 for Xinput games. x360_DCS_1.zip -

Make sure to turn off the force feedback in the options. And see if in the the Roll and Pitch axis there's only the CH assigned and nothing else.

Since i don't have a two stage trigger, i use two separate buttons, and I remember from previews betas that if in air2air mode, when shooting without the PAC stage, the plane will pitch up. But if i used the two stage i could fire the canon on air2air mode with stability, like air2air in FC2. But i just tried again now on beta 4 and the plane pitch up anyway. Makes shooting distant air targets much more difficult. Is that correct?

One thing i think ED could do to get more people into DCS is a lower entry, for these who have been burned many times by other other sims who promised a lot and deliver very little or these who are unsure they will be able to learn and play it properly. Example. You pay something like $5, and get the full DCS A-10 for 1 or 2 months, if you like it and want to continue playing you buy the normal $60 full-price (less the $5 you already paid). If you want give up, you lose only the $5. It may need a stronger DRM for the time expiration, but gets removed when you pay the full price. I normally don't like this method in others areas, but for something like DCS it looks okay for me. DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN ANY BUSINESS, NO BUSINESS EXPERIENCE, AND A FAMILY HISTORY OF DISASTROUS BUSINESS DECISIONS... still... :D

Ok, i misunderstood your post, i through you wanted to re-use HOTAS key bindings between betas. First you need to note that after either beta 1 or 2(can't remember which) they added lots of extra possible biddings like the MFCD OSB, CDU, UFC, etc... that are not available on previews betas, and most of these are empty by default. Now about the errors, i did have some crashes too when assigning some buttons on the HOTAS, but they are inconsistent, and when i tried again they will work. One way around for now on beta 4 to remove these errors is to switch to the old GUI. Edit, with Notepad++, the "..\DCS A-10C Beta\MissionEditor\MissionEditor.lua" on the line "NEW_GUI = false" change from 'true' to 'false'. And try again.
