Where do new players go to meet and fly with new players?
Skwirl865 replied to Skwirl865's topic in New User Briefing Room
Ill definitely try that. The only problem is that whole “newb to pc gaming in general” thing cuz I’m a dcs newb but I’m even more of a discord newb. Idk why that app is so hard for me to get a good handle on but I have a harder time with it than I do dcs lol That sounds like it would’ve been really cool. I wonder why it went away. -
I’ve been a member and had an account for a good while but haven’t had a lot of time in the cockpit so I’m still a full on newb. Not just a newb to dcs but a newb to all of gaming. This is my first time trying to play anything on pc and only played gta on console and that was years ago. All thats also compounded by the fact that I just got a virpil throttle(LOVE IT) and haven’t gotten used to the new mappings. I’ve got the basics in fc3 planes and most of the basics in the f-16. I can bvr a little and bmf a little less but if a bvr situation makes it to wvr, I’m better off just ramming the ground because I’m so slow at the transition to acm, I’m automatically dead. Im starting to get the hang of basic navigation and comms but really wanna use srs and have nobody to test it with. I have the 16 and my son has the 18 so I can fly either one at any time but I know a lot more about the 16. I wish there was a newb server somewhere with srs and a few cool ppl to fly badly with. anyone know of a place like that? Most servers are either empty, silent or full of really good pilots. it’s lonely at the bottom lol

Hey. Post a link to it. I wanna check it out.

Is there a hard limit to the number of axis to button?

Thank you! I’m about to try that now -

Your videos are what I used to set it up exclusively. I’ve watched every one of em I believe and a few of them 2-3 times. That’s where my throttle defends came from, my buffered encoders, joystick gremlin, key commands mappings, modes, axis to buttons, all of it and now that U said “it will cause everything after to be ignored” I remember I remember u saying that. What made me ask the question is I remembered u saying it was bad in the videos a few times, I just forgot u said what it would do and I was just reaching for some reason why I’m having this problem. ive got to be misunderstanding what I’m looking at in my software in some way or another. have u thought about doing a deep dive on joystick gremlin? That would be super helpful too. I think I may have found the way to create modifiers in the “condition” of a mapped button but I’m not sure. There are a lot of things jg does that I have no idea about and the directions are not bad but for a noob to pc gaming, it’s not as descriptive as your videos. is there a way to do axis to button in joystick gremlin? also which setting in the virpil software changes the buffer size to get rid of “jitters” in the axis other than throttle. I can’t seem to get rid of the shaking in my zoom axis -

Could it be that there’s a break in the used buttons and unused? Like it’s all used up to like 70 and then there’s about 6 unassigned buttons and then the buttons I’ve mapped to axis’. what happens if u don’t use the first unused button in the list? also my zoom axis is jittery just a little. Kinda like the x52 does. How do I increase the buffer? -

That one and the one about the throttle detents is what I used to set them up initially. My problem is, when I map a new button axis now that I’ve done all the others, it chooses a physical button that’s already in use and I don’t know why. -
On my cm2 I have 2 buttons for idle detents, 4 buttons for flaps and gear on the gear slider axis, a button for vr zoom and one for spyglass zoom on the ring finger slider. I wanted to map a button to each direction of the mini stick but when I try to do them, it doesn’t map 2 of them and it takes the other 2 from the vr zoom axis. I’m using the preconfigured “1-20% and 81-100%. I do have 2 of the 4 custom axis to button slots left but that won’t be enough for what I’m trying to do. I’m new so I’m imagining I’m doing something wrong but maybe there’s a limit.

Good point how about the layout? Idk how ppl load em into this template but if u know how, u could just post that. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would love to see the map master’s button assignments. This is the template if u do. Full Layout Master Template.pptx

This is just perfect

I didn’t know that was you on here. I found u on YouTube before my throttle even got here. I set it amd my gladiator nxt up strictly from your videos and exactly the way u suggested using joystick gremlin. wanted to thank you for all the help. Not only did it help me get it up amd running but by the time I was done, I actually understood what I was doing when I did things in the software. u should do a good comprehensive joystick gremlin tutorial. question/request. how hard would it be to persuade u to share your f-16 and f-18 JG button layouts and profiles?

Monster Tech Horizontal Beam on WarBRD / CM3 / NXT
Skwirl865 replied to Sandy's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Hey! Quick question. Is there a huge difference/benefit between the nxt and a base like the warbird accuracy wise? I have the nxt and the cm2 throttle. I love both. Coming from an X52, the difference in accuracy and control was night and day but i have never used anything with a base so I can’t help but wonder if there’s a huge difference. -
Anyone tried virpil mounts on a desk with a short lip?
Skwirl865 replied to Skwirl865's topic in VIRPIL Controls
I just measured it. I’m screwed. 1” on the bottom smh -
I was just wondering if a virtual axis really showed up as a new axis in the axis commands section of dcs. That sounds interesting.

If it doesn’t work, I’ll definitely try it. They haven’t gotten here yet. I was just wondering if anybody else already had any experience -

Will they still be stable if u can’t push them all the way back to the stop?

That’s what I was talking about. The temp mode. I did all my setup for the modes with the mode switch from the havoc videos. That’s why I was so interested in how u mapped everything since u mentioned him and said u used the modes as well. Plus, the way u mapped the f-14, looked more like the type of layout I’m more used to so I wanted to see your 18 and 16 stuff. I couldn’t get the temp mode switch to work the way I wanted so I just used “remap” in jg to map the button and added my usual 2 modifier buttons in dcs. Most of my commands are thru keyboard commands tho. I used the keyboard map from baileys voice attack profile for the f-16 since it has so many more keyboard commands and mapped the buttons to this key commands. I haven’t mapped anything on the other modes yet. I can’t wait to see your layout. I’m back on the phone and can’t open zip files but I’ll be home later and can get started. -
is there any way to set up fully manual countermeasures?
Skwirl865 replied to Skwirl865's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Actually, I didn’t come up with the idea of changing the panic button profile myself when I said it in the beginning. I had heard or seen in before or at least I thought i had but i just couldn’t think of where or how. turns out, it was one of redkite’s videos. I found it again after everybody said “.lua” files. I just punched in YouTube, “dcs countermeasures .lua” and redkite’s video popped up first. I immediately remembered that’s where I seen it. I actually watch them all or at least have. Wags is always the first person I go to. I don’t like grim reapers cuz his videos don’t really teach u anything. He is good for 1 thing tho. Anytime I need to know the name of a function I want to map, I can reference his video on in and know that in the first couple minutes, he’ll pull up the controls and I can see the keyboard commands for the controls for whatever the topic is. I’ll start focusing more on redkite but not having any background or experience in aviation at all, even chucks guides would be Chinese to me or at least a lot less beneficial. it's a lot easier to remember things, when u have some understanding of them so I use videos to add context to the functions in the guide and manual. Even just the terminology. Being able to hear them in context over and over from different people from video to video for someone who doesn’t play games, knows nothing about aviation systems or terminology and who’s never sim’ed anything before, they all helped in some small way of for nothing more than helping show that the mountain of information in the manual isn’t insurmountable. Seeing the things actually happen, makes the literature make more sense, especially in the very beginning. Actually, growling sidewinders videos are the root of how I found dcs. My youngest son (13) started watching his videos and within a week he downloaded the game. a few months and a few thousand dollars (entire pc rebuild, 2 hotas’ and modules/maps for 2 accounts) later, here I am asking for help editing .lua files for countermeasure programs pissed off at Doug masters and Chappy Sinclair for making it look like all I needed was to “keep my big mouth shut” and play some good music in the background. ain’t life grand? Lol -
Is there no way to stop that? It does it fir campaigns and maps and everything. There’s like 4-5 of them every single time I open dcs. It makes the idea of buying other campaigns or even maps and modules a bit less desirable. If dcs wasn’t so huge, I’d try to figure out some way to have an entire different install(if that’s even possible) but it’s huge! it’s really nerve racking to have to click thru prompt after prompt before I can even load the game considering I’m the one who paid for all of them. thru should really figure out a way to do it like console games so that ppl in the same house can play multiplayer together like console games. It was already frustrating to have to spend all that money twice just to fly together on the same house.

Skwirl865 replied to Skwirl865's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I didn’t know that was in the manual. Gotta admit I only read the chucks guide. This is my first module and starting out can be a bit overwhelming. I also don’t have any of gaming experience so not only trying to learn dcs and the f16 but controls, hotas systems, graphics stuff, 3rd party mapping software, product research and reviews and all the rest of the mountain of Information that comes with being brand new. I’m workin on it.
