  1. Yes you can but the ir pointer has nothing to do with weapon guidance. It's just a visual reference tool.
  2. It's called laser and light decipline gentlemen. Currently in multiple theaters their are android phones made in China that can pick up all IR emissions. Aka ir spot and ir pointer capabilities. Nowadays only time that stuff comes on is when you pull the trigger or drop a bomb. Biggest confusion I see in the dcs world ranks is people assuming an Ir pointer can provide guidance to ordnance just like the laser Designator. Well obviously it can't but is a very useful tool for night operations both ground and air.
  3. That right their is one aspect I really hope is improved upon. Yes Arma3 has an awesome thermal simulation and Edge should be more than capable in doing the same considering how advanced Edge is. Defiantly a wish list item!
  4. I feel bad for sithspawn, tomorrow is April fools and I imagine many Dcs 2.0 release thread will present it self. As far as news wags did comment yesterday in the oculus rift thread here. Good news the gui is fully oculus rift dk2 compatible in Dcs 2.0 now!
  5. I'm just a dumb weapons guy but it's evidently very complicated. Would seem to make more sense to use more cores but we've been told it won't make a difference and that Edge the new graphics renderer will make the difference..
  6. You guys really need to get over the whole resolution thing. Currently everything is very operational aka Flying and operating in an A10c with the DK2. Maybe me being in the military its second nature for me to adapt and overcome obstacles. Take some time and retrain yourselves and honestly you will notice you fly more tactically and more realistically rather than using the uber zoom and such with a 2d screen. Dont let these guys swade you into not getting an DK2 its your money and i was having a hard time last month when i bought mine on weather i should or should not get one. Very glad i did. If you have the hardware you can push things in this sim to make it very operational with the DK2. At least with my experiences. The resolution will come someday but not anytime soon. The Cv1 will be a great upgrade and very much operational in Dcs world 2.0 when it comes out.
  7. Dk2 has enough resolution, and with dcs 2.0 having the gui squared away it will be a much better experience. Plus I imagine down sampling will be doable in dcs 2.0 so another plus their.
  8. Yeeeeeeeeeessssssss! Awesome news Wags and thank you for the update!
  9. Well their is many improved graphical effects which is clearly seen in recent videos and screen shots of the Old map being rendered in the Edge engine. Looks amazing from the new grass to the new clouds on top of better lighting and shadowing it will prove to be a great upgrade.
  10. Edge is a graphics engine and the old map is using certain features of said edge graphics engine in dcs 2.0. You can easily see the improvements in recent videos already posted.
  11. In regards to the rift if your not at a constant 75 it does not make you want to puke. 50 and 60 are fine. Also with this sim current engine it's not so much a stressor on the gpu as it is the cpu. The Vr manufacturers just need to make their products dynamic. Aka alow the low persistence to kick in at 60 instead of 75 or 90. Make it modular and selectable.
  12. Totally agree, right now with the rift dk2 it's simply enjoy the amazing immersion and advantages of that or enjoy the cleaner graphics and less immersion on a 2d/3d monitor. I find myself switching back and forth between what is in my signature. It's so ridiculously hard to go back to a 2d3d screen after flying in the rift. I cannot wait for the cv1 and what the vive will bring to table. Just that jump to a higher resolution and one screen per eye will make a huge difference. In the mean time ED needs to enable down sampling for dcs world like Elite Dangerous has for their VR mode.
  13. Works just fine I suggest reading your airfield charts and double check
  14. It is a joke if you spend all those man hours and money on a cool pit to only have the most important aspect to that virtual verse, a small pc monitor. Rather have a huge window into that world aka big screen than switches. I do find it funny when people say immersion is awesome and their flying on a 30 inch or smaller computer monitor. Big reason why our military simulators have very large screens and or domes as it puts you in that verse. Now vr really opens a new door into this realm and offers many different ways of utilization.
  15. Physical pit does not give you any sense of flight. Something Vr does very well. Sorry but seeing most pit builders around here build a uber pit with uber amounts of switches only to use them with a pc monitor is a joke. I thought a 55 inch with my pit was epic in 3d, it doesn't even scratch the surface to what vr adds to my pit. Everybody will have their preferences I just recently changed mine.
  16. That's what I'm talking about! Sounds great Neck.
  17. Why well way to many people flooding the multiplayer servers constantly asking basic questions that are easily answered if manual was read and training missions complete. To many call of duty folks looking for quick thrills....
  18. Very good knowledge guys. Will also chime in, Sniper methodology is my key to success. Makes sense as thats something i know very well and this air platform and weaponry are big. Recon and violence of action. Use the vikhrs with standoff then move close to bloody nose territory and execute with the 30mm its very accurate for what it is. With anything its situation dependent and mission dependent but prioritize your tgts thus allowing you to close the distance with rockets and guns. Be interesting to fly that coin mission sometime.
  19. Well I think for most who are committed and have any sort of intelligence on this know that the price will be high for the full vive but well worth it. If everybody is expecting to pay 350 dollars for official Vr tech they are going to be highly disappointed.
  20. Weird that's how I run it but adaptive vsync does not lock me down to 40 or 30 fpS. Which I'm honestly glad it doesn't as its smoother when it drops to say mid 50's
  21. Well if I ever stop flying with the rift and go back to my tv what benefits does it bring you? I don't see how being locked at 30 frames compared to running at say 54 frames since it dropped below 60 how that would be better?
  22. Well i have a pit granted its not full retard like others but it is a Volair sim pit. Pics are around these forums. I find its a great setup For the VR Flight and pit operations. I wonder if Wags will be getting a Free Developers edition Vive..
  23. Well either do vr or build a pit like that in the house. I can tell you vr is better but that's my opinion. It's perfect for Dcs world and its in game virtual pits
