Mission 1 available through the user files
KevyKevTPA replied to ChillNG's topic in F/A-18C Operation Cerberus North Campaign
I don't know if it's remotely helpful, but I was trying the "free Ep. 1" mission after the most recent patch, and never managed to find Poodle, except (maybe) ONCE. And assuming the plane I started following was in fact him, I had to blow a lot of fuel on burners to get caught up as he was WAY ahead of me. And then, it's not that he wouldn't, couldn't, or didn't fly the waypoints correctly, he just poof, disappeared. According to both AWACS and my own radar as I had him buddy spiked at the time. Anyway, thought that might at least give you some feedback for troubleshooting purposes... -
Issues from latest Open Beta
KevyKevTPA replied to ChillNG's topic in F/A-18C Operation Cerberus North Campaign
Dragnabbit, I was literally getting ready to start Cerebus North in the next 15 minutes or so. -
Is this compatible with the Kneeboard from VAICOM? Being able to add FXAA is appealing, but I don't need the functions for copying and pasting coordinates and that sort of thing. One more question, it appears to be compatible with the F18, but it doesn't specifically say that in the description... Thanks in advance!

I didn't think that would work as I had just done that a few days before trying the OpenXR toolkit and having the zoom problem, but somehow.... IT DID!!! Thanks so very much! Kev -
Auto-Rudder Option for less-abled peoples
KevyKevTPA replied to RaceFuel85's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
As a fellow disabled person who couldn't use rudder pedals if someone sent me the best set money can buy for free (though I would give it a try, and I might just have enough movement in my legs to use them, but I'm bed-bound 98% of the time), I can reiterate this request, but for the entire sim, not just the Tomcat. I'm primarily a Hornet driver (though I did pick up the F16 during the sale happening now, but only have flown it for maybe 30 minutes), and I don't see myself picking up any of the other existing planes (mayyyyybe the Harrier, once I can fly the 18 and 16 like a pro). My joystick does have a twist rudder, and I use it exclusively for taxi and takeoff, but no matter what I try with the curve settings on it, so far anyway I still manage to run off the runway almost every land takeoff. Or damn close, anyway. An auto-rudder function like they have in MSFS would be a godsend to me. -

When I turned this on (and I've used it in MSFS, so I know the benefits it can offer), it's as if I somehow have activated a superzoom mode, and everything is right up in my face. Has anyone had this issue and know how to fix it? I had to turn it back off, it's totally unplayable that way. -
missing track file Adjust trim causes my b1rd to buck like a bull
KevyKevTPA replied to KevyKevTPA's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
That's one reason I wish the joystick and HOTAS makers would start equipping their products with force-feedback. Just like most other DCS users, I've never flown an F-18, but I have flown a Cessna many, many times, and it, too, wants to balloon when you drop the flaps. However, you can feel it in the yoke and counteract it with a firm push, which is something DCS and for that matter all flight sims (same is certainly true in MSFS) can't simulate. AFAIK, not even the high end, $1,000+ HOTAS units have FF. That should change. -

KevyKevTPA replied to KevyKevTPA's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
You may be onto something, as I have noticed when it behaves that way I am in fact somewhere in the area of 200 kias. BUT... why would it do that at 200 kts whereas if I slow down from there, it doesn't? Frequently that's the speed I roll out from my break turn at, give or take. -
How do I fix this? I don't speak Chinese lol...

spring flash sale 2022 Lots of planes on sale right now...
KevyKevTPA replied to KevyKevTPA's topic in DCS 2.9
Oops. Well, now there's two posts about it, because I did indeed miss it lol... -
It seems our friends at ED decided to have a sale, but didn't tell anyone about it. I just picked up the F-16 for 30% off and there are a lot of others on sale, too, I just don't need to have an entire hanger full of too many planes. But you might, or you might have one you've been waiting for a sale for, so I just thought I'd drop a little note and let everybody (or at least everybody who reads this) know about it. Obvi, I have no idea how long it's going to last, and just in case it's necessary, I have no interest in ED except as a noob customer who is still in the "jaw drop" phase. Now if I could figure out air-to-air refueling and carrier traps. But I guess I don't have to worry about the latter with the Viper, though I think the Hornet will remain my fave even after I've figured out how to fly the Viper. But who knows.

Thanks, I did so, but I'm locked out of most of the rooms and found nothing like a mission. Where would I find it?- 10 replies

Sometimes when I hit the "Auto" button, it doesn't work. I don't know if I'm outside of some parameter or if it's a bug, but as far as I can tell so far it just seems random, like it just doesn't feel like working occasionally. One thing I've noticed about BALT (for me, anyway) is the closer I am to already level, the less likely to engage. If I'm climbing or descending at 1,000 fpm and hit it, it'll kick in (somewhat violently), but if I'm close to level it just doesn't want to engage. I don't understand that, it makes no sense to me, but it is what it is. Again, I think I'm missing some parameter, but I don't know what it is. Other times, it says "no thanks" at first, but then 10 or 15 seconds later, it comes to life.

I have no idea if this is a setup issue, if I'm doing something wrong (very, very possible), or what, but I've found when I'm adjusting my trim to try to get on speed for a landing, the plane will jump up by a good 15-20°. I have trimming mapped to a hat on my x56 throttle, and it happens pretty much all the time, though it's not like I've been keeping a log. Any thoughts about this?

Thanks.

I actually just did a complete reinstall. Is there any way to maintain or save your "logbook", I'm a noob, so I was only a 1LT with a few medals and 15 or 20 hours worth of flying, but if I had a pilot that was a full bird colonel, with all the ribbons in the game, and 500+ hours that might sting a bit to lose.
-
I've tried this 3 or 4 times now, and whenever I get within about 10 miles of WPT 2, it just completely freezes. I even once gave it more than half an hour to see if it was "thinking", but that didn't help. Anyone experience anything similar, and can anyone suggest some sort of fix?
-
I'm fairly sure I'm the problem here, but I'm having issues getting the BALT A/P mode to work. In the F/A-18C module, I have to practically have the plane trimmed to the point that I don't even need BALT before it will finally engage. Any suggestions about what I might be doing wrong? On another note, I thought it was supposed to be a self-trimming plane, but I'm finding that if you don't have the A/P engaged in at least one mode or another, it'll drift on you and quickly. Up, down, left, right, seems random, but I can't trust it to let go of the stick for more than maybe a few seconds. It's not my stick, it's a brand new x56 and I've checked all the calibration and it's rock solid steady in the middle when I let go, so much so I don't even need a dead zone. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you could pick any map next, what would it be? (Poll Vote)
KevyKevTPA replied to dimitri18's topic in DLC Map Wish List
+10,000, if it at least goes as far north as the Orlando area and includes the MacDill AFB area. If the creator wants to get really nuts, include all of Florida up to and especially NAS Pensacola. I absolutely loved and played the hell out of that game. But that plane was a bit temperamental when taxiing and landing, it tended to roll over and blow up for even the slightest wrong move. It was the sole reason I bought my first GPU, I don't remember exactly which specific one, but it was a 3dFX card and it worked like a charm on that sim. -
I'm sorry if this is a dumb noob question, but I am in fact a dumb noob when it comes to DCS, but is it common for an addon like this to take as much time as this one has? It's May 2022, and this thread started way back in 2020. This is not a complaint, in fact from what I've seen it looks amazing, I'm simply curious.

Increasing virtual head rotation- Reverb G2
KevyKevTPA replied to KevyKevTPA's topic in Virtual Reality
I guess I'll have to keep my eye on it, because I am NOT using Steam VR. The performance was OK, but I couldn't go an hour without it crashing, and that's being charitable, as it was usually a lot less than that. Thanks all!! If anyone else knows something the rest of us don't, by all means...
