@NineLine I know its probably not a huge priority at the moment for the team ( I'm sure pushing hard toward DCS 3.0), but just curious if the dev that showed interest has mentioned anything or had any thought of solutions/implementations?( like he showed in his video of the internal export/popup API) -

I definitely fall into the category that would like to be able to save. Although most of my DCS time is just fooling around, not being able to save is a big reason that I have a giant list of campaigns I‘ve bought or downloaded and the farthest one along is on mission 6. I just don’t always have time in a single sitting. If I could go along for 30 or 40 minutes then save where I’m at, or if It would auto save and I could hop back to retry a part instead of an hour( or whatever it is) to get back to the same point, it would be magnificent. It will be crucial for the Dynamic Campaign I would think…. If the DC ever comes.. just kidding…maybe… -

I was just thinking about this while flying on Paradise Lost in the Huey trying to adjust my air pressure and HSI in the air since I forgot to during pre-flight. Big +1 for this. -

After a bit of flying in VR I can see where the mixed opinions come from on the quality of the map. On my q3 with graphics settings ( textures and shadows ) set high, the pasted high res ares don’t stand out nearly as much. Obviously due to the much lower overall resolution. Even the high detail parts that are stamped on mismatched terrain don’t jump out at you nearly as much. Normally I play 2d on an LG ultragear 48” 4K oled screen and that is where the differences in “quality” really stands out and makes it a less than pleasant experience (imo). It makes me wonder what type of screens/ resolutions the devs use when creating maps and such. Was/ is the goal/focus to be acceptable to use on a 1080p screen or VR? In other parts of dcs, things like line quality and text of the HUD’s are very degraded, ironically, when using 4K or even 2k, widescreens etc. But on a small 1080p monitor the lines/ text are thin and crisp, while on higher res they are very blurry thick lines unless you modify the lua files for them for each aircraft. Maybe thats where the divide in community opinion is on why some feel its very high quality and looks great and to others, like myself, it feels far from that. Of course it’s EA and I know work will continue. I fully accept the pros and cons of buying EA. But do hope the devs will really make an effort to work out the graphical “issues” that are quite obvious in high resolutions. I know Kola uses the same new terrain tech as Afghanistan and you can spot the same kind if High/low res divides, but Kola has lots if trees and things that hide a lot of the jarring transition. Afghan being largely void of vegetation ( at least in the DCS version currently) really makes the difference in the terrain mesh and hand crafted areas look quite bad.. again personal opinion. I know nothing about terrain generation but hopefully there will be a way to at least blend the high detail areas and the terrain a little better so it doesn’t seem like stickers plastered all over google maps zoomed in. High hopes for this as I am loving the geography of this map, even in this “flatter” southwest section. Looking forward to the real rugged mountainous terrain later down the road. -

I am +100%. This was a bit disappointing to see. The terrain mapping itself looks good, the handmade areas look nice but theres such a huge difference in quality between the very low quality/res photo/satellite terrain textures and the actual high quality textures splattered about randomly. Many of those highest detail bits really stick out like a sore thumb everywhere you look . Hoping this gets addressed, especially for one of the most anticipated maps in DCS history. -
@Reflected thanks for the update on this campaign with the new assets! I’m just learning the Huey/ helis in general. I’m only on mission 3 and was actually going to report an issue with a rogue hummer that would drive into you before startup was even complete. But after the update it no longer occurs going to just start the campaign over again to see the new assets spread about. Excellent work as always!

I use a regular ol microfiber as well to dust it. If I have a fingerprint or something. I spray glass cleaner on the microfiber just to moisten it a tint bit. I’ve been cleaning tv’s this way for many years, as long as I can remember for myself a ones I install for customers. Happy they’re on sale again, tempting but my wife would prob kill me since I just bought a third laser engraver

No problem! Still working on some bugs with the HSI course drums. , not sure what’s going on with them. Everything else seems fine so far

Hiding exported displays in the virtual cockpit

Intersting that the exports aren’t affected by the dimmers, I have yet to see that. When you setup exports in dcs, is is just creating the monitor file that tells them to be exported and where ( which you of course know) and that monitor config is only read and applied when dcs first starts. They would prob need to implement either “dynamic” monitor switching, or re-work each module with a way to actually turn them off in real time. You could use Helios to export them and in the profile create “panels” that would hide/unhide with a button or switch to cover the exports up.. BUT if you are currently using SimAppPro or DCS-BIOS for any of your setup, there can be conflicts from the export.lua when more than one program is trying to “control” the exporting of functions. And I totally understand the degradation in quality if dimming or brightening too much. Since exports aren’t a real “raw” video feed, there isn’t really a way to truly apply the filtering except post-processing like reshade does.. Same when using something like IRIS screen exporter, there’s nothing to “capture” to apply any real filters to. We just have to fake it.. Of course don’t necessarily take my word for a be all end all.. Someone much smarter than I may know a way that I’ve never experienced -

@Havner you can’t hide the exports( natively through dcs anyway) they are either there or not. You CAN edit the viewporthandling.lua to turn off the viewports in game but it will turn of ALL viewports on all aircraft ( a-10 excluded, its a little trickier).It will break IC in MP so best to use that with OVGME or mod manager. In your case you would lose the TEDAC since you don’t have it displayed on an exported screen…. I’m not that familiar with the Apache but I would assume the aircraft lighting has a “night mode” somewhere, or the displays themselves? I use reshade the same as you. I turn the displays in game at night, or put lighting into “night mode”. Then tune reshade to compensate correctly. In the daytime if you don’t toggle reshade off, you will need to adjust the display brightness and contrast. There isn’t really a happy medium using reshade. Attached are a couple pics of “night mode” in the a-10 and f-15. In the daytime in both I either toggle reshade off, or compensate for it by turning down the brightness and contrast of the displays. Again I’m not familiar with the Apache mfd/lighting controls but I’d first look into dimming the in-game displays, then tuning the exports with reshade. *these are screenshots with helios profiles running, but same concept with native display exporting. Pic 1: F-15e night mode , no reshade… Pic2: f-15 night with reshade…. Pic3: a-10 night mode with reshade..upper displays are the in-game, lowers are the exported ones -
