FedEx finally dropped it off at 8:45PM.. Set it up.. WOW.. Love it! I already don’t miss the ultrawide. I even turned down some graphics in DCS and it still looks better than the 5120x1440. DLSS on balanced even with sharpening at 1 and nothing is blurry in the mid range ( not compared to the other one anyway). Good timing too, checked today and the price went back up to $1499.. but.. after just using it for a couple hours, I think it’s worth $1499. My room is fairly dim so screen brightness is only at 35%. That should be real easy on those pixels Very impressed with how crisp it is with the anti-glare coating/ film ( whatever it is).

You know I did see the big funky remote lol .. does it go into standby like a regular monitor when there’s no inputs? (I’m hoping so when using display port) I never actually turn my monitors off, I just let the pc control them .

Helios support needed
MadKreator replied to BaronVonVaderham's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Glad that worked out. Something I never even considered until another user mentioned it worked for him! -
Similar can be accomplished through Helios, using the “screen exporter” tool. But you need to render the viewports on virtual monitor (or the likes) then use the screen export tool to send them to your mfd screens. The helios screen export tool has basic video filters ( brightness, gamma, contrast etc) but it’s not perfect. Its also isn’t t great for fast moving screens like a tgp because UDP connection is limited in is data transfer rate so it will not be smooth( ie. Limited fps on the viewports) .. it is just another option. The reshade mask seems to work well too. Ultimately it is on ED’s end to fix the brightness issue of viewports.

Awesome! Mine is showing up tomorrow, excited to try it out !

Thank you for the bit of insight. Much appreciated! I think we all would rather have exports that break IC, than exports being axed all together! There’s much more to DCS than just the few servers that block them. Always appreciative that ED allows it in the first place… amongst other mods in general. Hopefully someday it can all be ironed out

Awesome! Grayflag servers are my favorite. Add Sinai to boot, all in!

Maybe not underrated, maybe just misunderstood. Me? I don’t understand the engineering aspect of it. I get the jist of what it does( from a very basic, naive standpoint), but someone like me doesn’t know the real benefits it will bring, or more importantly, what doors it will/could open. Looking forward to any improvements, regardless. If Vulkan needs to come first, then happy to have it. Doing things right is more important than the order things come. IMO

South Atlantic Terrain Terrain Look and Feel
MadKreator replied to Raz_Specter's topic in South Atlantic
I have never given it a real thought. I am more of a jet “pilot” than a heli “pilot”, however I prefer low altitude, up close and personal kind of approach. Kind of a mixed bag from users. Some say textures are the deterrent, some for performance, some for lack of assets and aircraft for the simulated time period/ location. I bought SA and I love SA for the terrain type. I have no performance issues per-se. Drops close to cities, yes, but not really worse than any other map. Not “un-playable” by any stretch of the word. I'm not a VR guy though so I have no reference in that aspect. I am also not a mission maker, so lacking some content, even basic free-flight missions is kind of a bummer… not a deal breaker though I suppose I would prefer things up close to look as good as they could. I can’t honestly say I’ve ever had a gripe about synthetic textures on other maps, nor do I know anything about how they are made. I would rather terrain look good overall rather than worrying about snow caps being scale replicas. If synthesized texture could bring about improved performance for those affected, then thats just all the better. At 20k+/- feet I’m not looking at the terrain on any map anyway. I’m busy programming the jet and heads down finding targets. Planning attack and keeping track of my Situational Awareness. Down low is where I like to “sightsee”. The terrain, especially flying through the fjords in Chile is amazing. Such a nice escape from the sand and desert routine. I could care less about period specific content or recreations of real life wars in the area and whether or not DCS has the appropriate assets. We have what we have and I think it’s a silly idea to avoid a map, in a video game, because if things like that.. To each their own of course. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and reasons I really hope the map succeeds for the long haul, It really is ambitious and pleasantly different than any others we have! -
Awesome! I know a while back that BN mentioned the team was aware of Helios issues… which also translates to exporting more than MFD’s, in general, I believe. Of course there’s no expectation for ED to accommodate a 3rd party software. But fixing the way exports are handled in a global sense, and their effect on IC, I think is the ultimate goal.

Helios Users - F-15E Profile NEW Ver. 1.0.3
MadKreator replied to MadKreator's topic in Multi-Display Support
*** New Helios release soon. Along with it the fixes for the TFR switches and WSO Flare Jettison switch in the profile. But you MUST download the new F-15e plugin after updating Helios for the changes to take effect. *** -

I will wall mount it. I have the 49” on a cantilever mount so i can pull it close for dcs, so the curved screen actually has some effect ( so I think). With the VKB stick mount and helios monitor mounted to it, I sit fairly far away anyway and the hotas mounts never leave the desk. I think it will be perfect even back against the wall about 36” away. Then I can pull it closer if I want for dcs.

Great to hear! It seemed to check all the boxes. Since the original post, I ordered it while eating dinner I figured, no loss.If I don’t like it, I can return it. I’ve had the ultra wide for years. It was tough to get used to but now it’s just normal as can be. However I also want to move a ps5 and xbox into the gaming area and one thing I really can’t stand is a 16:9 game on the ultrawide, super annoying lol I think transitioning to the narrower field of view will be okay. Productivity wise there’s still plenty of screenspace to run multiple programs when I’m working on Helios stuff or working on the cad programs for CNC things. Wanted to try something different and it seemed a good choice Also hard to pass up the price.

Anyone here have one? Used one before? Curious of your thoughts. I use a 32:9 49” ultrawide right now. I have no problems with it. Just thinking of trying something different. Going back to a 16:9 will be tough, Ultrawide gaming is great when supported. I have other LG oled tv’s in the house but this piqued my interest with the anti-glare coating. I love it on my current monitor as I have a bunch of highly reflective RC planes and a window behind me. Not worried about burn in. My pc never stays on if I’m not there using it. Don’t need tv features or sound.. Curious more if its g-sync compatibility works good. Are images still nice and crisp (oled crisp) with the anti-glare? A recent firmware update is said have given the option to turn off local dimming. Where I sit in my “pit”/desk I wouldn’t want any larger. Any thoughts are welcome

Some do, some don’t. I think as mentioned before, that ED has “pre-defined” some things that are okay as exports, depending on how it’s done. The way Helios “patches” the files for exported displays, breaks IC even with a basic MFD export ( don’t ask me how, I don’t know). But breaking IC also doesn’t exclude you from all servers. Just ones with “pure scripts” enabled, mostly the pvp servers. I play MP all the time on great servers like grayflag, flashpoint, burningskies etc and I have a laundry list of things that fail IC. But if you’re into the dogfight arena kind of thing, and heavy pvp then you’re basically sol as the pure scripts keeps people from modifying any files, to prevent cheating. I think an entire IC/anticheat system would need to be reworked. I don’t imagine its as easy as just omitting a few specific files from the IC… maybe?

Yes I’ve read them all over the last couple years. Just trailed off a bit The point was, IF they decided it would be best as a paid module or upgrade, I personally wouldn’t be opposed to it. If its a free core update then all the better
-
I could see that being an issue. Maybe part of the DC design takes into account campaign makers too. A way for them to use it as a tool to generate a set of missions and for them to fine tune and spend more time creating great stories behind them and less time in the mission editor. I don’t see ED’s Dynamic Campaign having the ability to generate cut scenes and things like that after certain victories. Or automatically generate voice lines as the story progresses etc. Of course I’m wild guessing here. Maybe it will have some sort of AI engine integrated at some point that could do that I 100% see your point on that, though. But I do feel like ED would consider mission/ campaign designers and not just completely give them the boot. It would make more sense, financially to allow them to supplement their work and make even better campaigns. Who knows, really? Certainly not me I’m just excited for it.
-
I would be happy to pay for the Dynamic Campaign system as a module. As long as it does it better than Liberation or Retribution. Don’t get me wrong I like those two, I play them a lot. But they are constrained to having someone pre-make the actual missions. What happens after you hit go, is more dynamic, but what I’d really hope to see is the mission generation also be very dynamic (which I’d assume is the intended goal)… like a mix of Briefing Room and Liberation on steroids. Options for quick generated campaigns based on only a few sets of variables, to huge in-depth campaigns where you could have many options to tweak, if you choose. Then be automatically generated and possibly even procedural generation as the mission goes on (which I think the logistics side of it kind of covers). A part I would like to see too is having briefings and updates written as you go. Again taking a queue from Briefing Room.. You generate a mission thats never the same twice but it also generates a briefing/ story behind what you’re doing. To me, little touches like that add to the “immersion” , just like stories written behind paid campaigns. Hoping for a sense of purpose to go along with it as well. More than just “ Okay here’s a map with some arbitrary targets scattered about. Go bomb something you find and lets just see what happens next”.

Map objects flicker, houses and ships popup
MadKreator replied to z-mann's topic in View and Spotting Bugs
I get the ships growing out of the water too. Only noticed on Syria and SA. Didn’t think of a map issue. I get no random building pop-ins though, only ships. -
I think it would do just fine power wise. As long as the working area suits your needs. One other thing to consider, that I’m not sure about on the k-40’s is the depth from the laser head to the bed. I don’t know how much adjustment is there. I don’t think the work bed is adjustable, I think focal length is determined by adjusting the laser head itself. I buy the big deep machines, not necessarily for the working area but for depth, so I can fit the chuck/lathe style rotary axis in there to engrave tumblers and cups and things like that. But we use ours for our actual 2nd business, which is laser engraving lol So I kind of need the wide array of being able to do anything that comes along. It looks like it has a built in exhaust fan ( probably a simple PC fan) so you would just need to route some tubing out of your space , or over to your airbrush fume extractor. It comes with a simple water pump but I do recommend at least a radiant style cooler like the cw-3000. Lasers do work best in a certain temperature range, usually 18-22 degrees Celsius is the optimum range. If your going to house it in a non-climate controlled area, like in the garage, you need to use some form of antifreeze mixed with your distilled water to keep the water in the glass tube from freezing and destroying it. The climate where I live will fluctuate from the low single/teens in the winter and 105 degrees F + in the summer. If you're going to be working in hot temperatures the the actual industrial chiller is highly recommended (cw-5000+) although those will cost almost as much as a k-40 itself. You may find that a bucket of water to be fine, and use frozen water bottles like big ice cubes in there to keep the temps in check looks like k-40’s are about 20” deep, 32” wide and 9ish inches tall. It’s 100% worth looking at different styles and researching as much info as you can. Whether it’s an omtech, monoport, or other brand, I think all k-40’s are pretty much the same. The control board in them is the key piece you want to look at closely. It will dictate what software you can use with it. And it doesn’t need to be a k40 necessarily. You’ll find that many machines are the same machines just re-branded( unless you get into high end ones like epilogue, thunder laser, trotech etc). Those are built with better components but they get extremely expensive. More industrial/ high throughput kind of needs. I have a buddy with a k-40… at least I’m pretty sure that’s what it is… I know it’s a smaller desktop style. I will ask him his thoughts on it and some of the ins and outs.
