Thank you It’s a drop in a bucket but I’ll put a ticket up on their end and if enough of us complain Meta will [eventually] take notice

Interesting video released by Lukas. Explains really well why some headsets have "useless" pixels. Good to see that QP and the like are using technologies that are less wasteful in both physical world and compute
-
Probably something to do with resolution or a million other things But your question equivalent to going to a car forum and saying my car is not making power. What is wrong with it?

I can only speak for myself but I use one tool alone that’s ODT as it’s first party. The length of time that has passed since OTT was updated doesn’t stand well with me Additionally I see some people have all kinds of multipliers everywhere thinking they are doing some magic voodoo bs to channel more pixel density without the cost to performance. They set 1.3x inside oculus, then 1.5x inside the the debug then 0.6 value inside OpenXR Toolkit and I’m sure there is someone out there who also had a fiddle with the DCS Pixel Density as well. Their graphics card fans spin up before launching the stupid game because it’s too busy computing the end resolution value which was equal to the one they started with

I'm genuinely taken aback by the negative response I've seen. The presentation showcased an impressive level of attention to detail and remarkable hardware innovations. Instead of focusing on the negatives, we should be rallying behind the widespread acceptance of VR. Even if the headset doesn't fully live up to the hype, it has achieved significant milestones that I've eagerly anticipated for years. Putting aside the cost factor, it's worth acknowledging that Apple has utilized all its available resources to make an unprecedented push in the industry's history towards creating a top-tier headset. That alone deserves commendation. I'm certain the likes of Meta, Varjo and dare I say it Pimax are taking note and will be innovating. We all win

Who's leg did you hump for the system to allow you to swear? All my posts just have '[profanity]ing' plastered all over them Anyway, the one thing I am highly surprised about, is that everyone who bought one has almost exactly the same experience and feedback. I don't think I have seen such consistency since they invented mechanised sliced bread. I honestly thought this was going to be much more polarising than it has been -
I’ll save you the suffering In OpenXR Toolkit see if you have a FPS Cap Active. From memory 10FPS is the lowest. It’s easy to tell as it’s the first screen you’re presented with inside the settings (which only shows up inside VR) Do a reset of the toolkit either way as sometimes we have seen some settings hang

lol Have a look at how much Meta charges for the proper cable. I’m infinitely impressed by the human ability to spend enormous amounts of money and then cheap out on a related product which completely renders the initial investment useless ECU & Turbo upgrades with Cheap Tyres Expensive Suits and the scent of Lynx Africa $5000 couches with plastic protective wrap Quest Pro and an “Expensive 20€ USBC Cable”

Probably most of the people posting here can I can not speak for anyone but myself. But I chose not to because I had a 6900XT so a Quest Pro was the best I could buy. Except for some shortcomings compared to its Meta counterpart Aero is currently best *consumer level* headset we have for DCS - with the Quest Pro being an uncomfortably close second (especially for the $ )

Your two [realistic] choices are either 6950XT or pay the Nvidia tax If reprojection is not something that you value and you are not looking to spend three thousand kangaroos then AMD is the clear choice. If your butthole is not something that you value then Nvidea is the way to go. Both ways will leave you wanting sadly* 7000 series is a huge disappointment and runs VR worse than 6000 series does. There is a frame issue with the multi-dye that was reported by Broken Silicon a while back, I have lost hope that it will be fixed. Which is a shame Good Luck *Unless you're rich in which case just buy the 4090 and be done with it. It's the only good card this generation for VR so far

My Sony A7SIII with all its bells and whistles takes pictures that are far worse than my iPhone if it’s lenses are fogged up no matter what settings I use on the camera Your experiment is too flawed to start taking apart and akin trying to present arguments of why the earth is not flat. I will just say that yes you are changing the sweet spot by lowering the resolution and basically everything you’ve said is somehow wrong or flawed Go through the reviews of this headset on this page or Lukas two videos if you want to learn and understand more -

Glad to see the headset is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Lukas/Wolta takes a lot of the credit for this, without him I would still be rocking my G2 thinking that the QP is inferior -

Hey Mate I have had the same instance happen to me when I was rocking the G2. I somehow got the smoothness back when I re-installed OpenComposite and OpenXR for the 3rd time and tweaked some settings at random. Either way,. the 45 lock in the Quest Pro is smoother and better than the WMR was for me when it was at it's best. There is no stutter, only blur during high merges Yes the Quest Pro is fair amount easier to run. You're not going to gain say a generation of performance, so check your expectations - but a series one is reasonable to expect (by that I mean like a jump from 3080 to a 3090) to give you a quick off-the-cuff perception difference The killer feature is the 72hz mode. So when we do upgrade we will be able to hold 72FPS+ with MSAAx2/x4 - this means I can skip this <profanity>ty generation of GPU's from all three companies -

I don't use ASW and I am not sensitive to a little ghosting. The artefacts of ASW when I accidentally had it on were there but at far lesser extents than WMR Reading between the lines you may have been outside of the early frame window and were inside the dropped frame territory. If you just let the frame rate go brrrrt then you will likely see the same outcomes. A friend of mine has a 3090 and I tried Quest Pro on his setup. There is no darn difference in smoothness, picture quality or anything else if ASW is disabled and locked at 45 via the ODT. ASW Nvidia will always win. It's still crap, and I'll take the much better image without it Quest Pro is easier to run on our cards. I still have a 40% overhead with higher settings in simple dogfight missions My only issues have been needing to restart the computer every now and then when I have been doing other things on it. Basically I get random screen tears that go away as soon as I restart my computer and launch oculus and DCS straight away. Annoying, but I haven'y bothered trying to figure out what is going on. I believe this may be more of a USB issue than a graphics card issue I have never had a Quest 2, and doubt the software stack is working that much different on the Pro, but don't know -

Yes it works with OpenXR Toolkit. The colours and dynamic range are significantly superior so the panels look very close to the way 2D DCS looks. I don’t miss reshade - I believe last time I checked you need to run DCS via SteamVR to get reshade working My only tweak in toolkit is to boost the greens a little to give me a more contrasting HUD. (Cheating really, the real life HUD’s I’ve had have been trash against bright backdrops so it’s actually quite realistic to lose the HUD) Re accessories. You can get the gasket off AliExpress for pennies (I don’t want or need it, the side skirt cat ears are good enough and provide good ventilation. The Meta Earphones that I also ordered are trash. I don’t know if my AirPods Pro have ruined me but they are worse than $20 pair from your local servo. Avoid. The cable… there are cheaper cables out there but you’re penny pinching in front of a freight train. We are already sending compressed video signal over it, and the cheaper cable may work just fine but you may find out that there is a reason it’s cheaper too -

@Sile - you were100% right, my battery does not go below 80% @slughead - From what I understand H264 is more resource intensive but can create an image with fewer artifacts and H265 has higher efficiency but can create a slightly worse image. And yeah, I just saw that option disappear when I switched away from the Beta Branch Yeah, it's funny when I switched I went to 4864 x 2448 however my multiplier is at 1.3x there is something weird going on with the resolutions and different refresh rates and different version numbers After doing a few more tweaks I finally settled on these settings, it's about 90% to the sweetspot resolution of the G2 but across the entire view. Getting the right fit and position was half the battle. The other biggest difference was going for the higher resolution, 900mb/s Encode and finally 45FPS with ASW disabled/90hz I think I am done with tweaking settings until I can get a card that can achieve 72FPS across all scenarios. I might go back to 72hz every once in a while as normal dogfights I can keep the FPS above 72 nullnull -

I am using a 5800X3D with -25 Offset Voltage, 6900XT @2800mhz // Fast Timing 2150mhz VRAM with SAM enabled and modified vbios to 350W sustained. slightly held back by PCIE Gen 4 x8 (because I have ran out of PCIE allocations as I use this computer for work), Ram doesn't matter with 5800X3D - mine is middle of line but I have a lot of it 3200mhz/CL16 64GB I am using the Meta Link Cable, I gathered that there is a reason it's so expensive and didn't want to kneecap myself by cheapening out on it Some people's motherboards can provide enough juice, some people's can't. For me it doesn't matter, if we do the math 4hrs playtime = 19% Discharge, therefore 100% gives me a theoretical 21hrs of gameplay until empty This is wrong see my next post below Yeah, thankfully I do. I have a Gen 4 Motherboard. But by that stage 5090 comes out I may already be rocking a 8950X3D so it won't matter Interesting re Beta Channel. I haven't had issues but I guess I'll try both the versions as I haven't had much time with either. I have started the downgrade back to main build What Dynamic Bit Rate are you using? Have you also tried H264/265 to see which you prefer? I do recall seeing the number sticking inside the Oculus Diagnostic Popup thing. True about ODT being a debug tool, but there are lots of features that we know work that are useful that are hidden in there (Eg ASW), it's figuring out what works and what doesn't. Otherwise we only have access to resolution and refresh-rate and that seems very limiting Can you take a screenshot of what settings you're currently running and why? Mine are below, I am still experimenting obviously so I am not implying they are any good like I did with OpenXR & G2 back in the day -

Thanks @slughead A few updates - my opinion only. The more I tweak the better its getting 72hz at 36 2 Frame Hold is not great. Too much blur. I have not tried 40FPS @ 80hz - But I am doubtful that 4 frames are going to make much of a difference. I am currently sticking with 90hz with 45FPS Forced no ASW. When I pickup the 5090 next gen I believe I may just go for 72hz and forget about all these issues forever... until of course we get even more punishing graphics settings... Headroom is better spent on higher DCS settings and resolution than on the 27 extra frames (more like 40 extra frames when considering the extra overhead required not to go below 72) I am currently Running the beta and what was reported is correct, the resolutions have changed. I am one notch below 5000px (cant recall the full number of the top of my head) now set 1.2x. Running via link cable, with encoding set at 900mb/s (You cant type in a value higher than 500, but you can copy and paste the higher value - wut?!). My USB-C Port/Cable Combo is good for 3GB/s according to the inbuilt testing app and I saw no issues with this. Additionally I am sticking to 45FPS which means there is additional room for higher bandwidth compared to pushing 72FPS Did an other A-B Comparison - there is less shimmer with the Quest. I believe this is because of the orientation of the panels - read pixels - which are angled diagonally I have oriented the headset in number of ways, and the one way which made a major difference is positioning the headset tilted down. So the cushion behind you sits slightly higher and the headset almost rests across the upper cheeks and the ridgeline of my nose. Now the FOV is dramatically better than G2. This can only happen because of the optics as my eyes are not in the "sweetspot" You can purchase an extra set of side blockers and do a bit of DIY to mount them on the top of the headset, giving you cat ears. This of course makes it clearly the best headset money can buy With the picture I am getting, dare I say, [to me] the USB-C is better than Displayport connection because the cable is magnitudes lighter and skinnier than HP's G2 Cable. I don't know if HP made it this chunky because they had to or because they chose to. Either way, the cable doesn't pull or upset the balance of the headset as you turn your head around. I'm currently enjoying starting dogfights with the bandit already on my 6 and it's nice to simply forget about it Played for 4 hours last night. Battery went to 81% -

Yeah I did. The problem is that I have gone through training and one montage later, Im now one with the force, and no longer affected by the 60HZ flicker. So my opinion reflects this 72hz was great when I was achieving 72fps+ but the problem is when you no longer achieve 72FPS it's stutter city or ASW at 36FPS. I preferred to run with higher settings, resolution and encoding (900) at 90hz/45fps and deal with a little bit of ghosting instead of ASW and the other crap I may still go for 36 with 2 Frame hold at 72hz with everything on maximum. But I coudn't see this in the ODT settings. I only got 45FPS with ASW and 45FPS without ASW (or disabled) where can I find 36 without ASW???? What this experience has taught me, is that optics, not resolution are the true king of VR. It is wrong to look at specs alone - I am now beginning to think that they would lead you to brands which make some of the worst headsets out there -

Alright, not a detailed analysis, but more of a first impressions kind of thang. Probably going to rehash what everyone else was saying First of all the lenses are best the industry, bar none - dont @ me. I have tried G2 (obivously) Q2, XTAL and Aero, haven't tried Crystal but Pimax can kiss me' A$$ FOV noticeably larger - (this is coming off G2 with aftermarket gasket that had my eyelashes touching the lenses. In both vertical and horizontal plane. Don't expect to be wowed, but it's 100% noticeable, no A-B comparison required and it's nice. Anything with more FOV will only be marginally better Revelation - with this headset you are getting the pixels that your GPU has "paid for" and by association if you purchased your computer "you have paid for". Don't get me wrong, G2 is sharper and clearer in the sweet spot, no question. I can no longer see the fingerprints on the F-14 screen for instance, something I was easily able to see on the G2. But I can now properly see behind me without having rotate like an owl and it's clear up to the last 5' where it gets a little bit chromatically meh (eg Like the Aero under normal conditions). I can actually see the pixels outside the 10' sweet spot. That alone make it worth it My GPU runs DCS faster at roughly the same render resolution and settings with QP. Free GPU Upgrade I still think that the Aero is a slightly better headset for sims. If money is any consideration for you then QP walks away with it. For around half the price, it carries many advantages and loses in things like resolution and DP connection (DFR to a lesser extent, as I am able to run QP at 1.3x maxed out with my <profanity>ty 6900XT so it's not really needed). It's a no brainer, I am happy I like that I can disable ASW, which is far, far, far better than WMR, and Aero doesn't even show up to the fight. It's still ASW and I'm firmly in the anti reprojection camp. I use 90hz and run 45 with 2frame hold in the developer settings. Regardless when I was accidentally using ASW, I was amazed by how good it was on my AMD card I wouldn't call this a 'generational improvement'. Advantages are plenty, but you are giving away a few perks of the G2, however I will be keeping the headset and it's a solid upgrade. In my opinion I have only tried one headset that I would call a "generational upgrade" and it's the XTAL The build quality is outstanding, and whilst I believe it's a second to Aero in DCS, it's much better when playing say Half Life Alyx, controllers feel awesome, I no longer need a new graphics card and getting better picture than those on G2's with 4090. (And I don't have the letterbox FOV of the Aero) -
So... Do you guys constantly have to put your headset on. Grab one of the controllers, Navigate into settings, go through various menus, start oculus link, and then click on DCS and then put the controllers back into the dock?!?! This is the only way the app starts inside the VR headset for me Double clicking the DCS icon doesn't launch DCS within the headset. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Already did. No Quest Pro for sale in the Australia Ebay Store. Either way I already bought it direct from Meta A question for the experts in regards to the pincushion effect and resolution scaling. Some headsets, like the HP Reverb G2, use lenses that produce pincushion distortion, which can be corrected with software. This correction can result in a reduction in effective resolution, which is why Steam VR applies a resolution scaling factor of 1.3x thus 2160 x 2160 per eye becomes approximately just over ~3000x3000 Does the same scaling factor need to be applied for the lenses inside the Quest Pro to compensate for this or do the optics do a good job at native? -

Aaaaaaaagh! This thing cost more than my first car After doing a lot more research and seeing the recent firmware updates, Quest Pro has become the obvious choice for me. If I were to summarise it in one sentence - It's the anti-spec/pimax headset where the manufacturer wanted to create a good product, rather than one that looks impressive on paper. Too bad Meta insists on using lethargic homing pigeons for their deliveries, I will be waiting for a while -
Hey Silhou Has a look at the change-log and couldn't see any mention of A2A Gunnery; is this is still under investigation?
