As others have said. Holy CPU-bottleneck-batman DCS uses two cores. You have 8. This means that the other 6 will be doing nofin' and is reflected by the statistics as such Get the 5800X3D, or the 7900X3D is you can afford to upgrade. Even in other sims and games you can be CPU limited with that GPU, and you have spent too much money on the GPU to be constrained so much by your processor. It's only 300USD for the upgrade Good Luck

I also have a ten year old flyboys kneeboard from RL Sorties. After all these years, looks like they kept the same design. Are you at all able to post a photo of how you end up using the setup? I was trying to picture this in my head, and I concluded by the dimensions of the Huion tablet that you have it attached perpendicular (or portrait if you will), Is that correct? Do you use the default clipboard or did do something a bit more fancy with say a velcro. Lastly, How's the cable management? Do you find that you sometimes step on the cable at all? Sorry for so many questions, hope it's not too much Thanks again

In DCS, as things currently stand they have regressed. My 6900XT (which has been OC'd to the tits but is over 2 years old) outperforms and wipes the floor with the 7900XTX. Reading between the lines, and looking at the performance on Linux () it might be driver related. In the long term there might be an update that will bring it in line with the promises AMD has made. In the long run we are all also dead. AMD done fuuuu up this time around. I will link the chart at the bottom. What it doesn't quite capture are the frametime spikes, graph of which resembles Apache's Rotor RPM during takeoff roll on your average DCS multiplayer server If you want some first hand accounts of 7900XTX in DCS read this: https://discord.com/channels/610534461456777257/771045059104735243 - we really did throw the kitchen sink at it (For the record, I run everything on high except for shadows - low, terrain shadows - default, MSAAx2, and Clouds - Standard. 100% Resolution with OpenXR at 55FPS locked)

I have a similar issue. A/P CPL Mode works with TACAN & GNSS Waypoints flawlessly. Attitude Hold is useless, HDG hold is also hit and miss. It works sometimes, drifts at other times. Sometimes I can "wake it up" by applying a gentle push into the direction it needs to go. It often then banks past the assigned HDG for me having to wake it up again. This often occurs when I'm in barometric alt hold. Will attach a track file and video shortly

Bold Cheetah - A 13 Mission DCS F/A-18 Campaign by Sedlo
nikoel replied to Sedlo's topic in Missions and Campaigns
Hey Sedlo Amazing as always, glad to see an expansion to the eastern friendship campaign. Like someone has said, if you have a paypal I would love to shout you a beer as your campaign so far has been one of the best I have ever played. I have a question in regards to the mission 10 below: A couple of suggestions for VR Landing CASE1 when the sun and the weather conditions are set the way they are, makes things extremely difficult. In a frustrating kind of way, because the carrier is just a black blob against a grey-ish blue background of water. Flatscreen seems not have this issue as there is enough colour depth to see it more clearly. It would be great if you can use the same override that you used in mission 10, to light up the carrier and help with VR visibility It would be helpful to know what the loadout of the aircraft would be in the mission briefs. It's there for some of them, but not for others- 415 replies

You may have missed it, but I’ve put it into the guide on first page. It’s mentioned several times 55FPS lock works best because you are still close to half the refresh rate (45hz) with an addition of early frames So far Thud, Edmuss and a bunch of other VR tinkerers who have highly optimised systems have used it to a great effect, which makes me confident it’s not an individual one-off -
Whaaa.. how does that work? After Ebay and PayPal fees the seller would be only getting ~2.4K

Because in 'Straya the cheapest are thirty two hundred kangaroos mate. The mid to upper end will go as far as 3.6K+. Consumers have been shafted over the last couple of years; were looking for a reprieve, but Jensen's Johnson had other plans Which makes people fall into two categories broadly 1st - Wallet can't stretch that far 2nd - Wallet can. But butthole and/or dignity can not Mining is no longer very profitable, as Eth has completed it's transition to proof of stake and the pyramid scheme has imploded for the time being P.S. Checked US market and they can be had on Newegg and Microcenter right now. Same in HongKong and Taiwan. The supply is rather good

For you - yes. Windows 11 has been designed with a new generation of scheduler for 12/13th Gen processors If you want to know more puget explained it really well here: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/12th-gen-intel-core-do-you-need-windows-11-2254/

Is a VR pixel pushed by Nvidia the same as a VR pixel pushed by AMD?
nikoel replied to Cavemanhead's topic in Virtual Reality
Ooof. I know you’re trying to justify your purchase and I’m happy that you’re happy, but 4090 is almost 40% faster in some titles. compared to the 4080. It’s also $400 more, not $1000 ($1200 compared to $1600) This is why all the reviewers despised the card so much There is no doubt that 4080 is a faster card compared to 6900XT. You got an uplift. No one is arguing with that. This means you can crank the settings and get a better picture and more frames for a more fluid experience. Nvidea’s driver package is also better than AMD’s Forget 6900 for a second. If settings are equal and there are no shenanigans (upscaling/repro/encoding software) between the GPU and the headset - a still frame from every card made in the last decade would look the same. If what you were saying were true there would be comparisons between different GPU’s and the “picture and colour quality” that they were delivering on monitors and headsets. But there is no such thing. So either your perception is wrong or you have discovered something that no reviewer in the world has, and additionally NVIDEA marketing team has thought to never mention any of their promotional material I washed my car yesterday and when I drove it, it felt faster. Human perception is weird like that. But I would be foolish to go to the track and advise all the drivers there to do the same for a performance uplift for their vehicles -
Is a VR pixel pushed by Nvidia the same as a VR pixel pushed by AMD?
nikoel replied to Cavemanhead's topic in Virtual Reality
6900XT here. If you do not care about reprojection and Fixed Foviated Rendering (AMD Supports DX12 and above only) then the value rendition is easily in AMD's favour. There are no performance metrics for RDNA3, so we would be nothing but guessing and stipulating Overall performance and arguably stability of driver updates go with Nvidea - 4080 is the worst card and there is a reason they are rotting away on shelves. 4090 is the way to go Also I have to call absolute bull crap on anyone who has seen an improvement in contrast or colour rendition between any card that has been made in the last 10 years when using a cabled connection. There is no difference between any card, period. It's not physically possible. The display of your headset will render the colour it's told to render within the gamut it supports. The graphics card will ask the headset to render the colour that the computer it's telling it to. There is a reason your desktop, or a picture of a ginger cat looks exactly the same on your monitor, no matter what graphics card is being used To answer your question. Apart from Reprojection and over the air encoding (which is horrible on AMD) all graphics cards push the same pixels, colour, shape and smell to the headset (as long as all the settings are the same) -
Those graphics settings are rather... interesting You're running Shadows on high which incur a ginormous GPU/CPU penalty in VR - but then chose to turn off terrain shadows and cockpit illumination altogether. Try with low first and enable some of the other settings CIV Traffic can be turned off if you want to claw back a little bit of CPU Water can be turned down to medium as well Res of cockpit 1024 - you stare at these all the time If you want to claw back even more performance you can keep MSAA and try turning off AF from x16 to even 0 - 2.8 has an impact for many on this setting for some reason You can now also experiment with turning on Terrain Shadows and Cockpit illumination You can also try clamping 45FPS in your OpenXR Toolkit Settings

1) Clean and repair DCS using Skatezilla (check all files, and check for extra files) and launch DCS 1.5) If that doesn't fix your issues, uninstall these three (I believe 'Developer Tools' is now just 'Tools') and go from the start of the guide. Since you have already gone through the steps it will take you 15min max -
Hey Guys There is a now a HolographicShell Fix that no longer requires Command Prompt to claw back VR performance in Windows 11 due to excessive event tracing You do need to *Manually Update* windows to KB5020044 More info here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/windows-11-22h2-update-available-to-address-performance-issue-holographicshell-event-tracing/561340

Yeah man, wait an other month or so RDNA3 cards should push 3090/ti prices way lower than they currently are at In a perfect world [which this is not] and if price to performance is equal [which it is not]; with a 7900XTX at [advertised] $1K, a 6900XT should be worth around $500USD thus a 3090 should be selling for $650.00 to account for roughly 1-10% better raster and way better Raytracing and significantly worse performance than the new gen I will be first to admit this ain't likely - but with the likes of Dell and other computer makers reporting a demand glut, we might be up for a perfect pricing reduction storm. I remain optimistic. A month is not that long to wait P.S. 7900XT is 900USD, no? Or are you pricing in an other crash of the pound between then and now?

Help me decide to switch from the Quest2 to the HP Reverb G2
nikoel replied to ralch's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes. That is not maximum resolution. It’s not even the recommended resolution for optimal image clarity. It’s 70% of the total resolution for both the eyes combined. To counter barrel distortion it’s just slightly over 3000x3000px per eye which is 1.4x of the native per panel res You will find that the vast majority are quoting per eye resolution (not total) -

Judging by your hardware, I'm guessing you have a G2? Step one *increase* settings until you are averaging around 50FPS. Then go into settings of the OpenXRToolkit and lock 45FPS; it will give you ghosting but will remove the judder. You can keep going up but the judder will re-appear at around 50-55fps If it helps, when i went from my 3900X to 5800X3D I had huge judders and stutters because my FPS went up to 60-80, thus I was dropping frames This works because of the way OpenXR/OpenComposite handles frame delivery. Giving you a sort of poor mans Vsync It will never be as smooth reprojection. But will give you the best picture with [in my opinion] best tradeoff between the stutters and <profanity>ty artefacts and image instability Alternatively try the Turbo Mode inside the Toolkit. I really didn't like what it did for me, but I know it works for some -
AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
nikoel replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
You have broken the threshold of "early frames" and now inside dropped frame territory. You can either A) increase settings to get back as close to 45FPS as possible or B) Enable Reprojection or C) Enable FPS lock inside the toolkit
