  1. Yeah, I have to agree. He is idling the 12900/3090ti with so much overhead that when there is a frame time spike it doesn't go above 11ms. Each to their own I guess - amazing performance at 3060-like levels of visuals Maybe a life in aviation made me a little more cynical than most. But, why do I have the feeling that his video is primarily designed as a sales strategy towards getting his followers and viewers to purchase a Pimax Headset?
  2. Thanks mate. I have added this as an optional end step to the installation instructions in cases where it stops working Also, I have a similar error. But everything works perfectly. To be fair I have the highly volatile AMD Preview drivers installed (which improve frame times by around 10%) so this might be the price of the deal with the AMD Driver Devil In other news @DeltaMike surprise surprise is once again correct. I have tried with 55FPS locked. And the experience is significantly better. I wonder where the cutoff of early frames vs dropped frames is. I always thought that 45FPS would be the best, but I am obviously wrong. Now my best guess might be 59 or 58FPS? null
  3. Are you running Quest 2? Have you had FSR/NIS enabled at any stage with OpenXR Toolkit?
  4. Re-read Step 4. Thoroughly (in fact I would recommend you read the first post entirely as you are trying to combine old and new methods and seem to think that you need to drag and drop files) 0.6.3 is a version of a branch that no longer gets any updates or support by the developers
  5. I am a bit split on this It's no problem at all to add this, but all I will be doing is doubling up on the same step that is already outlined in the guide. (Have a look at number 5) One could argue that I have already quadrupled up on how important it is to start with a clean installation of DCS - but the guide is already quite long, I have a suspicion that people are not following it partially because they can't be bothered going through it properly. So the last thing I want to do is make it longer with additions [if one would follow those instructions] would serve no purpose. With each small iteration I try to condense it more and remove the deadwood whilst still preserving the core information for those who never heard of OpenXR and what it does in DCS Walking a fine line between making it idiot proof, simple but also not the size of the Encyclopedia Britannica. The old OpenXR videos refuse to die, get re-shared and self promoted every other day on reddit and thus the perpetual circle of life ensues
  6. Oh god! Forget those videos. There are two videos on YouTube how to install OpenXR and both are either outdated, wrong, or skip steps and should not be used. If you combined what you have "learned" from them with the instructions on here you may end up with a non working instance of DCS Best thing is to start from scratch and use either the new systemwide install (outlined on the first page) or per app install, outlined a few pages back
  7. Likely culprit is a failure to follow instructions. Did not delete (or replace if using alternative method of installing latest build) D3DCompiler_47.dll
  8. I upgraded and got a reduction in Graphics ms frametime. Cranked the graphics with shadows to get a firm bottleneck - Apache hotstart Syria from 23ms down to 21ms (on the same settings) Take this with a grain of salt as I had to reinstall Windows Mixed Reality as my headset begun to strobe for some (unrelated?) reason. Before finding the culprit I also reinstalled OpenXR but it was fine before and is fine after too. So there may be other aspects at play
  9. On average you will upgrading to a 2080ti level of performance. 6700XT slots somewhere between 3060ti and a 3070 on average - so you might want to look at pricing in your region for all of those cards Lastly, you have waited this long. At the end of the year we will have 7000 series and 4000 series respectively. Unless you have to upgrade, right now is possibly a very meh time to do it. **In theory** You either will be able to purchase the same card for a lot less or something that is equivalent in tier but 50% faster by the end of year
  10. Gonna revive this thread from the brink of death - initial tests of FSR 2.0 look good. Hopefully with introduction of Vulcan the developers can slot her into the pipeline for improved image and performance. Cake and more Cake as far as I am concerned. Being platform agnostic and open source should make it a no brainier
  11. Agreed on all of the above. The missions are taken from real life recordings. Some of them are recordings of gunships hitting civilians - thus this may not be for you. However if you can dissociate it all from real life events and take the missions at face value, they are great P.S. I hope you are not too attached to your virtual medals
  12. Hey; If it works for you, you're happy, and OpenXR has helped you get more enjoyment out of DCS then that's all that matters and I am happy too. MR or no MR 74 pages later, I still think that it's time well invested
  13. It is available but support is for DX12 Technology and upwards
  14. In other news DCS now represents >90% of all OpenComposite WMR users Next most popular is Asetto Corsa at less than 2%
  15. I have been locking my FPS via AMD adrenaline at the magic 46 number on the recommendation of an other member on here Works really well Oh and yes - Real friends don’t let their friends use Reprojection. I will die on this hill
  16. Low tech/brute force idea to test the theory Cover your monitor with a towel/tshirt/whatever when playing. One with a unique picture is better than plain colour but anything will do See if it works - if it does then you can consider something a little more permanent
  17. Yeah it’s worse CPU for the PassMark Benchmark or just overall productivity when compared to 12900k It’s highly likely that it’s current best CPU for DCS (we do not have comparisons with 12900k there) And it’s hands down the best for MSFS by a large margin I believe Star Citizen it's almost 80% faster than the next competitor with the latest patch Basically its a complete “trouncing” by 30%+ in Sim type games even when compared to 12900K there Depends on your use case - if you only cared about sims DCS/MSFS etc... it's easily the best
  18. This is the way i don’t try to correct the ‘drag and drop’ per app install because it’s fully legitimate and works. I also don’t provide any commentary on it as I have not tried it - i chose my way because I believe it’s superior for three reasons. It will auto update and is easier for newcomers to install and finally it’s easier to go between SteamVR and OpenXR However both are 100% fine and should resolve in exactly the same outcome [if done correctly]
  19. Not much to add. This is 100% correct. And I also have a backup because I have trust issues with SimAppPro (but that’s neither here nor there) I always clear metashaders and fxo when I make big changes Also I Launched OpenComposite.exe today and update notification came up. Clicked on the update button. It fetched everything automagically, double clicked DCS and it launched. Looks like that’s all she wrote and all we gotta do is open the app every now and then to update
  20. I'm going to leave this here for those who care about Windows optimisations and reducing the background calls and services. When I first jumped into DCS VR, I was appalled at the performance, so I went balls deep in research with dozens of Safari Tabs. This video goes through good 80% of everything that you can do (I think it leaves out paging file relocation and a few other things) - Depending on your system the performance gains can be sizeable or non existent Also be careful just going through everything blindly - aka don't disable crap that you use/rely on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pYiDRQH92k&start=1399
  21. AMD feature @edmuss I think you had a way to lock your 3070 last time we spoke?
  22. Just tried 46FPS lock You know; I don’t hate it - and concur in regards to it being better than 45 for some god unknown to me reason. Have you tried 47,48,49… etc? FPS matched to Refresh rate of the Headset is always the best experience. I wish G3 will come out with a 120hz+ Screen (with a little more peripheral view plus better lenses) so we can get the same with 60FPS that we now get with 45[6]
  23. Yeah this has been my experience with those toggles as well. Thank you TED
  24. Hey fellas As a 100K viewer special I've added instructions on how to get FSR working for those of you who are experiencing crashes (these instructions are courtesy of Mbucchia) - he did say that I was really up-selling it's effects and that it might have done good for some? So far the overwhelming majority has reported decreases in both image quality (shimmering and clarity) and decrease in performance. Please let us know if it has gained image quality/performance for you On a different note, is anyone using any of the AMD Graphics toggles and seen an increase in performance or image quality inside VR?
  25. It's working as expected. It's greyed out because it's selected. If you switch to SteamVR. Then the roles will be switched, with the SteamVR button Greyed out
