  1. Video footage ? No problem ... http://www.aviapedia.com/files/fighters/Su-27/SIAD97-Su27RVLand.mpg More info: http://www.aviapedia.com/aerobatic-teams/russian-knights/su-27-belly-landing http://www.su30mk.com/forum/posts/1079449709.htm BTW ... I can confirm the video is real. I was there when it happened ... :)
  2. What about this one ? Is it real ? Looks like it is flying even lower !!!
  3. FYI, the foxnews story: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,190289,00.html says that: "...Some of the 250,000 pounds of fuel spilled on the ground but did not ignite...." and: "Fourteen were taken to Kent General Hospital in Dover, and three were admitted. Some were covered with flammable jet fuel and had to be decontaminated in the hospital parking lot before they could be taken inside." ... so it looks like the plane had about 120 tons of fuel (which is probably full load of it) ...
  4. Relatively affordable 800x600 HDMs are available there for a long time. I am already waiting about eight years for better resolution ... not sure why it is taking "them" so long ...
  5. I suggested the idea a while ago but got almost no response. I would go even further than replacing aircraft models, for off-line rendering you could replace other models - ground vehicles, terrain, water, smoke, roads, trees, buildings, add rocks and grass, even use raytracer for rendering ... I guess results then could be Holywood quality (I mean picture quality) movies ...
  6. These monitors have just a few "sweet spots" where you see things properly in 3D. I think you will have trouble to use it with TrackIR, especially if you want to use 6DOF in upcoming Black Shark addon ...
  7. Just as a curiosity, I "served" in Czechoslovak army a few miles from the Russian base in Czechoslovakia. While I was priviledged to shoot only about five hundred AK and machinegun bullets in about two years (FYI, without ear-plugs the mashinegun shots were literally causing pain to my ears) and the service was mostly about clean boots and clean toilets, the Russians were pounding tank shells and heavy machine-gun rounds all day and night, all week long. With each tank shell the windows and doors in our sleeping barracks were shaking heavily, but after a few days I got used to it and regardless of noice I was sleeping like a baby. Back to original topic a bit, from my personal experiance - in night the tank fire flash is visible from about five miles about the same as storm-lighting. I can imagine that a missile must be visible easily from many more miles. Our unit was supposed to go to Kazakhstan to test how good we are at shooting Scud missiles. The "trip" was cancelled because of lack of funds. I actually was sad about that - even if the trip involved to spend about three weeks in a dirty train and lot of funny duties in the desert. But from the saying of "older camrades" I know that firing a Scud missile turns a night into a day (well, at least that's what they were saying :) )
  8. I guess this video would be more appropriate on this forum: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-357928031579191892 ... even if I about 25% agree with the original message ;) ...
  9. I guess somebody cannot get over the fact that there might be people who do not like him. ... and acting like 14 year old girl who was just told that somebody else is prettier than she is :)
  10. Thanks for the info. I downloaded the FC and haven't seen any problem with my DVD burner so far. I hope that since FC does not play from CD then StarForce does not have to touch any CD/DVD related hardware. I consider the requirement to insert CD as nuisance, plus since it is copy protected once you scratch the CD you have to go buy another one.
  11. bflagg, I am just curious - do you have CD version of FC or you downloaded it ?
  12. Do these TrackIR alternatives offer 6DOF capability as TrackIR's Vector Expansion or they do just mouse emulation ?
  13. Seems like something that should be in fix-it-list for upcoming FC Patch ? ... BTW, ED Testers - pls make sure you test this in Black Shark as well ...
  14. GGTharos, here is one solution to procedurally "populate" towns ... http://www.binaryworlds.com/products.html
  15. Thanks for testing this ! BTW, ... shouldn't Lomac automatically recalculate LOD distances based on field of view ? If not then I would consider this a (small) bug ... However there is settings section for LOD distances in graphics.cfg file, so I think you can change them accordingly when changing FOV ...
  16. Thanks. However it would be better to have cockpit screenshot to verify correct image ratio - if the ratio is wrong you could see that cockpit circle instruments have oval shape ... if it is correct then they have circle-shape ...
  17. I forgot this wish: - using TrackIR to navigate external views (without need to switch to mouse emulation) including 6DOF external view navigation
  18. These are very simple wishes: o 1920x1080 resolution support (in fact any resolution supported by video card should be supported) o initial menu screen resolution always the same as "in game" resolution - so the menu screen won't look blurred on hi-res monitor and no funny screen flickering would be there when starting a mission. o hi-resolution initial splash images should be used (the plane images displayed when mission is loading)- the current ones are 1024x768 I believe. Again, current images look blurred on hi-res monitors. o "save state" feature should (finally) work.
  19. I am planning to buy LCD TV in a couple of months and I am wondering whether LockOn supports 1920 x 1080 (interlaced or progressive) resolution, so I can play it in full TV resolution. Does anybody already play LockOn 1920 x 1080 ? Thanks, Roman
  20. Will be upgrading to dualcore regardless whether Lockon supports it or not ... So far about 40% is saying that will upgrade if Lockon supports it ... maybe if AMD & Intel would "sponsor" adding dualcore support to Lockon they would get their return on increased dualcore sales ? ;) If you think about it the hardware companies including NVidia & ATI are benefiting most from every Lockon realease ...
  21. Traditionally people were fine if wheel had eight angles. Traditionally meshes had less than 100,000 triangles. If you want more triangles then the amount of data going through bus is becoming too big. Traditionally dynamic meshes were (and probably still are) not supported by hardware. We are talking about what future might be ... Not sure why this could not be extended to a few objects which are very close ...
  22. Wow, that bicycle is really unconventional ! ... but, somehow I feel it would not perform very well if you also need to go other route than perfectly straight ... :)
  23. One solution already exists - it is called subdivision surfaces and as far I know it is already one of most frequently used techniques in 3D modelling. The idea is to subdivide polygons in low-polygon-count model into smaller ones. Now, for realtime rendering - you don't want to subdivide all polygons for all objects - only those close to the "camera eye". If your wheel is so far away that it takes one pixel on monitor - it really does not matter whether renderer renders it as triangle or circle - so no subdivision happens there. If your circle is so close that it takes quarter of screen - then you can start subdividing it's polygons until you hit your desired precision limit (BTW, as far I remember Pixar also uses subdivision surfaces and they stop subdividing when triangle size is less than size of screen pixel). Here is how it works: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subdivision_surface http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catmull-clark http://www.holmes3d.net/graphics/subdivision/ http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~gfx/courses/2004/Intro.Fall.04/handouts/18-subdivision.pdf Regarding hardware support - as far I remember XBox 360 supports dynamic surface subdivision based on polygon's distance to camera (or supports something similar).
  24. Well, I see recommended price for their latest product at $2,000, so you could probably buy it at around $1,600 somewhere online. FYI, if you plan to buy one of these for your HDTV, make sure it is HDCP compliant - otherwise you will be sorry when you discover that your upcoming HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movies won't play in HD resolution ... (!!!) ... I kind of feel sorry for all early buyers of HDTV televisions - the same surprise is awaiting them too ... BTW - this is also true for most of computer monitors - unless they don't support HDCP - they won't play HD DVDs in hi-res without some kind of (currently-illegal) hack ...
