I know, Marcos, and saw the image :P Merely making a silly joke, that's all.

What planes? Ahem... I mean....what implants? :pilotfly:

New technology right there: CATO. Curry-Assisted Take-Off :megalol:

It can't, but you won't be able to convince the Fast-jet proponents in the Pentagon about this, sadly. With the eventual phase-out of the A10, you loose a very important quality in a battlespace: the ability to fly CAS/BAI-missions very close to friendly lines. A burst of 30mm HEI does a whole lot less damage than a 500lbs JDAM, but it won't flatten a good portion of the area surrounding the target-area. I personally don't think you'll be able to fly the same missions with the F35 as is done today with the A10. The A10 is purpose-built for the mission it does, while the F35 tries to be a jack-of-all-trades. And in many cases, trying to do too many things leads you to do none of them well. I'd love to see what happens to an F35 that gets hit with something as simple as a chance burst from a ZSU-23-4. An A10 would most likely be able to get the pilot home, but I don't have the same amount of faith that an F35 would.

It's 50 years old :P There's been a lot of developement on how to make an aircraft easier to service over the last 50 years or so (hell, look at the JAS39 Gripen), and after thousands of flight-hours aircraft tend to develop kinks, quirks and individual personalities. One of the CrewChiefs I worked with on the RNoAF F16's once said that old aircraft are like old women: Stubborn, set in their ways and needs a lot of tender love & care to keep in good condition :P

What do you think about this for DCS products?

Could be interesting, especially if they made the vest so that it squeezed you when you started pulling G's, let you feel when weapons left the rail and the vibration when you fired guns etc. Hell, I'd buy one :P -
I stand corrected :)

Looks more like a wheeled BTR-60, to be honest.

Seeding at 1.1MB/Sec :) Going to let it seed until I shut down for the night in 2 hours, and then start it back up again at 0600CET tomorrow morning.

ACE2 ftw. It's one of the mods that I absolutely refuse to play without. Have a server set up where me and a few friends of mine tend to muppet around on Warfare-maps playing strictly Co-op. Tried out the Warfare-map for Falluja yesterday, and with AI difficulty set to High it's a tad on the insane side. And DayZ.....blegh, don't get me started. It's probably a good mod, but I'm so sick of Zombie-games these days that I could yell for moose :puke:

Brilliantly done :D More of this should be done, since we throw away equipment all the time that still has many years of service left in them.

When it become available for download?
Fjordmonkey replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in DCS: Combined Arms
I just had a somewhat funny image pop into my head: Matt's house, with a bunch of simmers outside trying to get in, zombie-style :P Instead of braaaaiiiins, we go siiiiiiiiiiim..... Anyway! Carry on, nothing to see here! (are we there yet?) -
SLUF's, Scooters and Harriers? Hell, now we just need a new map to go with it :D
-
When Combined Arms gets around, it might be fun, depending on how it's done.

I'm all for the Hind, to be honest. I really miss playing the old Microprose-made Hind-sim, and it's also my ride of choice in ARMA2 (even though one cannot by any stretch of the word call ARMA2 a helicopter-sim).

Definitely good stuff there. Here's the Norwegian show about the Norwegian Viper-pilots. Mind you, it's in Norwegian without subtitles, so it'll be gibberish to anyone not knowing the language. http://www.viasat4play.no/format/play?fid=2528

Nifty! That reminds me that I need to find more shows like that. It's interesting to see how they train pilots in other countries.

Hey, wasn't that one of the guys that were in the television-program Stridspiloterna that was aired in Sweden a while back?

100 Years of Air Power Anniversary-paint of RNoAF F16 with tailnumber 686. Will do displays at various airshows around Norway this summer.

My first reaction was "Wow, that's one hell of a maintenance-team right there" :P
-
Perhaps more than anything, as seen in the contract-competition for new fighterjets here in Norway.

Previous reports of a confirmed crash has been withdrawn, as EtherealN has said below. The Norwegian Minister of Defence has announced a press-conference in 30 minutes (2100 CET).

News here in Norway are reporting that a C-130-J with 5 souls on board is missing after a flight from Evenes to Kiruna. The weather in the area is bad, and the ATC lost contact with it a few hours ago. Will update as news comes in.

You're missing: tactical choices (going head-to-head with a 100-ton Assault-mech that excels at close-in brawling (the Atlas) when you're in a mech set up for a more long-range style of fighting (let's say an Archer, which is more of a missile-boat) isn't very smart etc) heat-management (Everything you do generates heat, some weapons generate hideous amounts of heat and can contribute to overheating your mech to the point of ammo cooking off, shutdowns etc) Role-warfare (some mechs are better at certain tasks, like scouting, sniping and pure slugging it out'ing Manouvering (it's better to get behind a mech and punch it in the back than trying to get through it's front armor, for example) True, some of the mechs sacrifice speed and manouverability in order to gain toughness (A10 vs F16, for example). Some are a better blend at it than others, some are a jack-of-all-trades while others are specifically designed to do one task. Much like in the world of aviation, your team will have to be able to master everything in order to survive, and only through teamwork will you actually live to fight another day. Now, just how MWO will turn out is anyone's guess. I'm cautiously optimistic, however, but years of experience with MMO's have bitterly taught me to not get my hopes up TOO much. From what I've been able to tell, the controls of the mechs will be more like what we saw in MW3, with the possibility of controlling legs, torso and arms independently. Just how that will turn out when it comes to using multiple joysticks etc will be interesting to see.
